When you are looking to dial your water in for your yar, to see if you are getting good converse and it’s adequate in input, the best way to do this this to cup test…. No not that cup test…. Which sports players might rejoice, but a cup test to test for water coverage.
What we are doing:
1- Get shallow basin, straight sided containers or the pro cups below (10-20 seem adequate for moving zone to zone, but allowing cups to stay in double covered zones till all run for that area).
2- Place them in your yard, in dry spots and good spots, to get a good look at over all coverage.
3- Run the Zone or zones that cover those cup areas. 10 min makes it easy then your counting in 10min increments. Look at how the sprinklers are covering, and patterns, see if you see issues.
4- After the zone or zones that hit the area have all ran, collect the cups noting how many inches deep (1/8, 1/4, 1/2” etc) they are taking most note of the shallowest one.
5- Fix the sprinkler coverage, by dealing the sprinkler heads in, further, closer, opening up pattern, fixing overspray… etc. we are trying to
Get the coverage even every where or we have to water to the weak spot, or if push comes to shove we spot water weekly for that area and water to the others.

Excellent job on this video. I have the same cups and tried them in 2020.Put out 10 of them on my 1600 sq foot lawn that has one zone. I was shocked to see how little water was actually accumulated in them after running them for 10 mins. They really give you a good idea of how much water the lawn is really getting

Great video and breakdown of stations to help figure out how much to put down after a good rainfall for that week!
@TheGreenerLawn
@TheGreenerLawn 2 года назад
Yup, put those up 💯 %, and adjust accordingly! If you get good rain storms through the season, you want to factor it in! Get 1/2” rain this week, only water 1/2” , get 1” of rain… welp your solid, wait till next week! No rain, full 1”

This will be especially important as water restrictions kick in. There is rumor we will be cut to one day a week like NSL already is...

So for these cups- Are these in 1/10th inch increments? I.e the first line from the bottom of the cup is 1/10”? Its a little misleading because the demarcations make it seem that it doesn’t start until like an 1/8” above the bottom of the cup
@TheGreenerLawn

Great information! It is my understanding that the average is a about one inch per week which means that he would need to water his lawn about 20 mins every 4 days for example. I dont think that was mentioned in the video. For a beginner like me that information is helpful.
@TheGreenerLawn
@TheGreenerLawn 2 года назад
Lol, this is actually a video for my lawn coaching clients, but I let folks get them On my channel. We take their information and transform it into a watering schedule. So, if you listen closely, you hear me mention, if you get 1/4 inch means that you will need to water 4 - 1/4” ( 40 minutes) total for the week. Now you take that and break it into 3-1 watering days. Your on the right track, if you choose 3x a week you would water 13 min 3 times a week. If you choose 2x that is 20 min. If it’s 1 x its 40 min. Then we cycle zones to make sure it gets into the soil deep vs running off. It is one inch, that is mentioned… and that is weekly ( some with hot weather need 1.25”…. And I concede some super hot need 1.5”, but I’ve taught folks on 1.25” above 100 and it works). Like I said it was a step, that I cater to my coaching folks, so yes, it doesn’t hit all aspects a, as they have me on retainer for verbal assistance. My fault to not fill this in for others, good catch.

@TheGreenerLawn

@@thereefaholic one inch per week (if you do one water it’s per watering, 2 = 1/2”, 3= 1/3” per watering ect, but no need to water more then 3 x a week tbh unless it’s new or super sandy and your working on adding material to hold moisture)

@TheGreenerLawn
@TheGreenerLawn 2 месяца назад
+@thereefaholic what was the difference in the amount of water in that area of fungus? Disease can occur in lack of water situations as well, as the grass is stressed and the disease can take over. It’s not always too much water 🥴
@thereefaholic
@thereefaholic 2 месяца назад
@@TheGreenerLawn the difference is indistinguishable in the cup test. I suppose I can see how many ml the actual difference using a syringe. Gonna switch to some deep watering every other day rather than my daily schedule and see if that helps.

@@thereefaholic it’s in inches, of standing water no need to do that (it will not assist). In inches what do you feel the depth was? I’m guessing just drops in 10 min?
