Welcome to a new season of Hockey Inside/Out, hosted by Gazette sports columnist Stu Cowan with former Canadiens teammates Chris Nilan and Rick Green - who won the Stanley Cup in 1986 - as the regular panellists.
This week, our panel discusses the impact of the sprained knee that will sideline forward Patrik Laine for 2-3 months. Also, which winger is the best option to replace Laine on the second line with Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook?
The panel also talks about what they're most excited about this season with the Canadiens, what would be considered to be a successful season for the team and much more.

It wouldn't be a new Habs season without the return of Montreal Hockey Inside Out!

With Hutson being as good as he is at his size, I bet he is very experienced playing against players trying to run him.

I absolutely love watching this team being built. Laine out must put a bunch of LTIR credit in the bank to use when he returns, to maybe make a big move at the trade deadline, with a Savard/Matheson sweetener. Next September we may see a team that the league is now worried about. And welcome back. All Star Team!

We have had hard pre season. Injuries, bad plenties and the power play is horrible again. I hope they got it out of their system and excited to see what they do this year.

Nilan said it, defence has to step up especially now. I would add special teams needs big improvement from the last couple of years

To me the Canadiens with or without Laine, I still think they have enough talent to at least be in the mix, now it's about luck and durability for them in order for them to reach their potential.

FTR I never liked the Dach or Newhook or Barron trades I was actually very unhappy with those moves.I was good with the Monahan trade imo that was a no brainer so not reflective of having good managers or not. What really worries me moving forward is the fans and media re satisfied with just seeing small individual gains and less worried about the TEAM.I never care how many goals Cole or Laine or Nick get I want to see the SIGNS of playing winning hockey smart decisions and playing tough on pucks.

Recovering from a strain is so unpredictable. He may become more prone to serious groin injuries now after his recovery ovrr the next 2 years.

On more than one occasion Nilan has been skeptical of Laine. Is that just me?

The real question is how much of a difference a healthy Laine would have brought.

Not at all because it is a team game no one player can change the mistakes a team and it's systems are showing game after game. There is a slim possibility that an outspoken player which is what I was growing up might say something to his teammates if he sees problems and how to fix it but in the NHL not likely. I have seen the same TEAM problems year after year nobody is fixing ANY of it so this tells me we have dumb players and a bad coach. having said that I have seen a bit of that heavy set coach IDK his name off hand but he seems to be around 50 and very heavy and imo he seems like an intelligent teacher I would make him the main coach.

It won’t hurt them at all. It will merely delay his own return to greatness and I believe he will, once again, be great!!
