I've had some form of facial hair for most of my adult life, but it's always been a short, corporately acceptable scruffy look. You know, the "allowable rebel" that makes the corporate HR staff say, "Awww, look at us. We're so diverse." In 2015, I walked out the door of a bank in Dallas and determined my banking career is now just a memory. I moved home to Sweet Home Alabama and am back in school and the beard is in full growth mode. I've been told recently that my "beard game is strong", my beard is "dope", and yesterday leaving church, a guy jealously told me my beard is beautiful. I like to think it reflects my new direction, new hope and new inspiration for the second and better half of my life.

Thanks for sharing Eric. I'm 45 (sigh) and have had either a full beard or a goatee with stashe since high school. Like you I was always eager to "develop". My desire for facial hair stems from me wanting to be like my Dad. He has always rocked a full beard and has always been the centre of my universe. He's approaching the end of his time on this earth and as much as that thought destroys me, I smile and take solace in the fact that my son who just turned 7 recently informed me that he can't wait to "get a beard" to be like Daddy and Grandpa. And so it goes...peace and love.

2 years with a beard. I had a job where I had to be clean shaven and I hated that job. I quit the job and took an internship (unpaid) and started talking to my now girlfriend. In the summer of 2015 I didn't make a dollar work my internship and grew my beard. I spent every dollar I had and grew my beard. When my internship was over I got a job at a dollar store just to get through college. I lost my financial aid and had no money. Paid for school and worked 6 days a week but with a beard. Over time I started getting depressed and couldn't be happy. The best times was watching the transformation of my beard and watching tips and tricks about beards. Now while stroking my beard at 23 years old with a new car, 2 college degrees, a 40k year job, and looking for a ring for my girlfriend to propose to her I couldn't be happier. And in my own way my beard journey helped me keep it all together. Thank you Beardbrand and keep on growing.

PixelGunner3D first of all don't judge another human or offer "advice" they didn't request. It's not your place at all. Secondly, don't think that 40k is bad. The median income in America is just under 50k. For him to have a job that pays 40k, which is a lot more than he previously made, puts him in a place of more financial security and peace. Especially how young he is. I bet he is really proud about what he has accomplished and achieved. Which is an amazing thing

I've always grown a beard. But I always get to the point where it's getting big, but not quite at the point to start really shaping it, and then I cut it off. I hit the plateau where your growth slows. Or I hit an awkward stage and I chicken out. And every single time I regret it. I'm 2 months in to this one ( I had to shave it for a resporator fit test.) And I'm taking it very seriously now. I oil it twice a day and use balm for bad beard days. I also use beard soap twice per week. Some days are still tough. Days it looks extra crazy and bad. And I get discouraged. But I watch beard brand videos when I go through this and get exited about it all over again. You folks at beard brand keep doing what your doing. Your all awesome. You keep me exited about growing a beard even in the worst of days. And for that, I say thank you.
@AuraStriker96
@AuraStriker96 5 лет назад
Beard soap is a wise choice but maybe limit it down to once a week. Every time you wash your beard you wash away the oils, including the good ones. I typically wash mine once a week and it maintains a healthy look and feel. If you use a balm every time you get out of the shower you will notice a big difference. Most balms have nutrients and moisturize your beard so they really are a go to.

Fantastic story! I feel like mine is quite similar. I am also 36 and worked for big banks as a financial advisor. I decided to drop the whole corporate scene and move with my wife and son from the US to be close to her family in Berlin... That's right, Germany. I always felt the pressure to shave because of the type of job i had. Now, I just passed the 30 day mark with no intention of shaving it anytime soon. I feel liberated in some way! Beard on!

I had decided to go though a lifestyle change. I started eating better and less, drank more water and decided to start dressing better. I. That my wonderful girlfriend asked me to stop shaving because she finds beards attractive and wanted to see what I would look like. I kept a short beard for about 9 months or so and stumbled upon this channel as well as The Beard Baron. Oh what is beard oil? You shouldn’t use regular shampoo? So I started taking better care of my skin and hair. I have since decided to stop trimming my beard and let it grow out longer than just 2 weeks of growth. I am at 6 weeks and already the change is noticeable. Thank you for your videos and content it has helped me be more confident in how I present myself from the beard on my face to the clothes I wear.

Connor K I've had a beard a little over a year now (nothing great). I kept it trimmed and buzzed kinda low for work. But recently I decided to let it grow and not trim it anymore! As well as to invest in products/knowledge to grow it out. My last job was crazy stressful.... was away from my "now" wife. Lots of mental breakdowns too many to count. But one day I decided to grow a beard. To keep me occupied to make me better myself mentally and physically. Sometimes I think what if I hadn't!? I no longer work at that job and have a new one I love! I remember for my interview I thought "I should shave to impress them" then I thought no growing it has helped me! So I went in (Well groomed) and had the interview. That's all she wrote i'm working there now! I didnt shave... sounds dumb but reason being it helped me through that rough spot in my career. Thanks again for sharing!

Growing my beard since 3 years.. Shaved, grown again and shaved ,grown again.. I was not really into shaving, it sucks... Shaving was a compulsion for me cuz my mom, my relatives keep telling me to shave cuz growing a beard is against our creed and so and so on but my friends encouraging me to grow a beard and had a lot of compliments from the outside... Who needs religion and creed while the lushes of wisdom keep protecting me and my face... Learnt a lot just like Eric, as he said beard is my portal to self improvement.. Keeps me growing every single day... Beard on great people.. Thanks a lot...

Hey Eric, great to hear your story my new friend. From about when I could grow any facial hair up until about late 2015 I never kept to one style of facial hair. I did the soul patch, full goatee, a van dyke at some point, but never really liked anything. Then in late 2015 I shaved in the evening on Halloween, and decided that I would let the hair grow. I live on the east coast of Canada so it gets cold, and I thought the beard would help in winter, keep the face warm. Well I never realized how much I would come to like the beard. I let it grow for almost three months and for some stupid reason shaved mid January. Man that was a mistake! My face hadn't been cold in months. Then I started late 2016 to grow it again, this time I did try to trim it, and use some product I found at a local cosmetic shop. Clubman products mainly, they were okay. This time I kept the beard around the entire winter and loved it. As I mentioned on Twitter to you a few days ago, in the summer I did full on mutton chops which was an interesting look and made it stand out but I didn't like it for an extended period. So I shaved it all off mid August and now after watching your videos am going to go for the yeard, and really try to take care of my beard more than I have in the past. Again thanks for your story and your help! - Darrin

Last year (2017) I started growing a beard. It was kind of a goal since I was on vacation in South America for a few weeks and just stop shaving. I was supposed to start studying for a certification test and decided I would shave when I passed. I had good results but in the beginning, you have to be very patient and just let it grow. The bad part for me was having to listen to my wife and daughter tell me how much older I looked with the beard (very grey). It kept nagging me about looking old. Then one day I just shaved it off. I felt bad because I hadn't taken my test and not fulfilled my promise to myself. I think that did something to me. A few weeks later I took my test and didn't pass. What a bummer, I felt terrible and kept thinking to myself "maybe if I had kept the beard " I gave it a few months and have since started growing it again. I will never let that happen again. It's not a matter of having a beard , it's a matter of doing what your heart tells you. What makes you happy. Chicks get boobs, nails, hair dues, liposuction, and all those other things. Guys grow beards, well some guys. That's all I got to say about that. Thanks.

I’ve had a very similar beard journey except that I am still in the corporate world, albeit a bit more relaxed than banking, I work with Non Profits. I have had some form of facial hair since 2000. In 2010, I grew my beard out for the first time and had kept a short trimmed beard up until early 2017. This past February, I decided to grow it out and have had a few trims here and there to kept it on the neater side since I work in sales. Eric, you have actually inspired me to grow out my mustache after meeting you recently at your office (I was the guy that popped in randomly while in town) and seeing that stache firsthand. While I was all about growing a longer beard, I am really digging a shorter beard with that disconnected stache. I am trying to pull something off similar to your current length and Jeff Buoncristiano’s athletic beard style. Really looking forward to this new journey with the mustache to see how it grows. Thanks for all the helpful content!

I've always had a goatee and mustache since about grade eight or grade nine. I grew facial hair really early and it was thick too I remember by grade twelve I had a full goatee and was able to drink in a couple bars and not get carded. I have had a full beard now for about five years and really in the past five years from about 30 to 35 I can see a real difference, probably from taking care of it better but I can tell some is from age. I now have grays and whites mixed into the red but it is getting straighter and less curly as I get older. -After watching the full video I have to point out Eric has gotten really good at speaking in these videos. I have been following Beardbrand for a couple years at least now and I can tell Eric and the videos have come a long way since then. Keep up the good work everyone at Beardbrand. Eric you're fucking killing, well done!

36 here and I had a goatee from 2004 to 2013, then a closely trimmed beard until earlier this year. I started letting it grow long but trimming the mustache and white hairs that started showing up (in retrospect a mistake since I want it to look as full as possible). So after 3 months, I trimmed it back to short mode and have started over without any trimming and am at 2 months now. Never say never, but I'd have to be pretty hard up before I would take a job where I had to be clean-shaven.

I just started growing my first "official beard" at 40 years old. I've always had a bit of a patchy beard and really struggled getting past the awkward phase. As you've stated being your own worst critic I always point out the imperfections and the question is it ever going to look the way I want? I've finally committed and yes still a little patchy, but I've been growing it for about two months. Finally its starting to fill in a bit more. I have also taken on the beard oils and balm (something I'd never done in the past). Your videos are definitely inspiring! It feels good to know the struggle is real and everyone is different in terms of facial hair. For now I'll keep pressing on and frequently checking back on your videos as I am a subscriber. Thanks!

I've been growing since I was 18. I was in the army so all I had was a mustache. After I left the service I grew a beard to hide surgical scars. I always had it trimmed short because I didn't know any better. Around my 51st birthday I ran into a video of Greg Berzinsky and three months ago finally decided to grow it out. Armed with the knowledge from your channel I am confident in my decision and my beard. I now truly feel like a beardsman. For that, I thank you and everything your channel gives us. Beardsman can gain knowledge and be proud of what they have achieved. The result for me has been more confidence and pride in my beard. It no longer just serves to cover scars, but has also helped me to embrace them.

It was great watching this. Thank you. I'm on a beard journey for the first time. I'm five months in (going to be six on October 10th) and I'm loving it! I liked how you were saying your beard has helped you feel more comfortable in certain aspects of your life. I don't really socialize too much (all work) so I mainly focus on my beard (aside from my love for listening to music and watching my favorite shows, like Breaking Bad!) and working my way up with how to take good care of my beard. I would say my beard is my best friend right now in my life (aside from my wife and 4 children). I've been researching all sorts of beard products and trying to find the best one. My wife bought me Cremo (the wash and oil) and its been working fine so far) but I want to find something better because I want my beard to have the best care. My beard grows in all places except my cheeks, but it grows from the sideburns all the way down my jaw line, so that's fine for me but I'm hoping that as time goes by it'll fill in. I've been wanting to take monthly photos and share them with other beardsmen out there, as a way to keep other people out there motivated and vice versa. Thank you for posting your videos with your tips and advice, I (and the rest of us out here) truly appreciate it. Keep on bearding!!

Great video. I definitely hear the confidence part at this point of my beard journey. I’m almost 23 and have only been growing out my beard for almost two months. I had almost the same facial hair story in the past, just side burns and chin beard. This is my first full beard journey and it’s easy to let the thoughts of shaving because “it isn’t full enough” or “it looks weird right now.” But because of these videos I’ve kept going because it’s my beard!! Thanks for the help Eric and beardbrand.

All that I know about tricks and oils and balms, everything I've learned from Beardbrand. You've helped me get to a shape and grooming so fine that I could match Jeff on a good day. I've had random people complementing me on the Subway for the great beard look and everything at College(I'm getting a master's degree now) had only great things to say about my beard. Also, ladies at parties come to feel it. It's been great hahhaha

I am 19 and I really can relate with your word. In my young years I was so much introverted and shy that I never meet with anybody , I was in my own home . I was acres of everything at that time and my fear reaches so much to a certain level that at that time I was not even watch my own face in the mirror . When it comes to face combing the hair I used to positioned myself in such a way that I didn't have to see my own face and just somehow finish my hair and get out of that zone. I was used to be a the back and I didn't want to expose myself to anyonne . In my early teens my voice used to be so much potchy that I sounded like a a girls voice at that time . Everyone back then make fun of myself which I hate. That time I felt that everyone is above me and I am the most unlucky person and and huge part of these came from my financial condition also . I was 14 when I first familiar with the thing called mastarbation and at that time I taught it was the most amazing that I was discovered . And I literally was became the way to find some pleasure in my life . Back then I didn't know about anything but what I felt that happiness means mastarbation. And day by day I developed mustarbation addiction . And when I was 16 I first got my first smartphone and it just filed to my mustbation addiction . That time I used to mastarbation almost whole day because nothing gave could give me as much pleasure as mastarbation . I went on for two years when some bad incident in my life make me realise that how much far offtrack I have gone and it impacted my study life so much badly that at the end of my school yaer ivgot the worts marks that one can ever got . Then few months after I get over these things I just felt I had to do something in my life . So after my times of failuring I make a decision that I am gone took every possible aspect of my life and just going to improve them . From here my baerd story comes into life . My beard started growing at very young age like in 15 but me being a shy guy felt ashmed for my beard . And back I didn't do any activity so I became very. Fact . So in last year in the month of September I started my transformation journey . Fist I started by making a decision of waking up early and going for walk for 1 hour every day. I continue doing that and at that time I was just started growing my beard and that time I first started taking some photo of mine and got familiar with my own self . Till 18 I never really valued myself and I always ctaught about all the bad things vaboutyself . But slowly and stely I started getting obsessed with my fitness routine and I continued to list on effort and 3 monthbpassed and I and was new year and and I lost almost 17 pound and it was for the first time that I realised vthat I also have potential I can also be better and . On the starting of new year I just made a decision that from this year I am gonna tackle my mastarbation addiction and I am gone started writing journal everyday . And that time when I first started searching for some motivator or some influencer . At first I started watching motivation and used to get pumped up @nd do every work but right after that I just let down. But one thing I want knew Thai if I have to grow some some confident then I have have to improve myself as well as from inside and outside . I used to train a lot and slowly and steadily my physic changed and I am started feeling confident about myself . One thing also on march 2018 I got myself a proper haircut because before that I was so sigh that I count even tell the Barbour that what type of haircut I wanted. From earlier this year I started doing things I never taught of doing . Now I grower a bead and now I look so much confident I can at least try to do every thing.Now I started reading books , lisent to podcasts and I do many positive things instead of just surfing porn video . I will not say I now I can completely control my mind but now what I can say that now I can see what are the thing that is letting me down and how to cope with them . So I will admit that still now I am not confident around girls . Still when it comes to talking to girls it scares me a lot but now at least have the courage to try . And I will say it's my story . If you have read till the end then a big shout out from my sight. Price and have a nice day.

You are an inspiration. I can completely relate about not taking care of your overall appearance until growing out a beard. I am in the beginning of my beard journey and am already am feeling the urge to take care of not only my beard but the rest of me. For a while now I have been toying with the idea of making my own beard oils to control what I put onto my body, and have recently decided that when I do so, I would like to market my organic oils to my friends. It is amazing what you have accomplished my friend, you truly are an inspiration!!!

I started growing my beard in the last month of school when i was in grade 12, i was 17 at the time and I started of doing no shave November and eventually I started growing my beard because I just got tired of shaving and always sticking to the norms of society . Then I discovered you guys and realized that there are people out there that just grow beards because they wanted to, so that gave me some sort of motivation towards it. I’m now 10 months into my beard journey and I’m only 18 and don’t plan on taking it out anytime soon but my friends and family says otherwise😂. My beard at the moment is about 5/6 cm in length but i do trim it at least once a month. However I’ve decided that I’m not going to trim it anymore because i want more length out of it.

I’m turning 41 in February and for the first time in my life I’m growing out my beard. I have the patience to do it and I always missed a beard in the past when I shave it off. It’s been almost three months now for the beard growth. I am looking forward to a trim at some point but understand I should wait a couple more months. I have some beard wash and conditioner. I only wash it every other day and it looks the best on that day. The other days I call bad beard days. So I have to figure out how to feel happy about my beard every day and have it looking happy. Still learning about oils and waxes and your videos are helping me. I do have to say I feel like myself with a beard. And I’ve gotten compliments from people saying the beard really suits me. So a lot of what your video says speaks to me in my journey.

Well, I for one am thankful that what you went through led you to start Beardbrand. I’ve known your company for only five days and suddenly I’ve got an excitement about seeing what this beard will look like after 4 months or so. (Before 5 days ago I wanted to shave back 6-8 weeks worth because I didn’t like the way it looked.) And what’s really weird is just like you said, now that I’m getting confidence in my beard I can’t wait to try something with my hair. I’ve kept my hair on the shorter side because I didn’t think I could do anything with it. But because you have a great line of products and you’re not afraid to try things with them on camera, I now feel like I have a shot at getting my hair to look better than it has in a long time.

Thanks for the helpful video on beard care, especially for those of us who are relatively new at beard maintenance. I just started growing my beard again about 6 months ago. The last time I had a beard was when I was much younger, like about 35 years ago when my beard was a chestnut color. Now, at 62, my beard is mostly silver and gray, so that was a shock, seeing myself like that. So I’m embracing this time of my life. Back in the ‘80’s, there were many barbers skilled at beard grooming. Nowadays, not so much. Every other Friday after a week of classes in med school, I pampered myself with a nice, hot beard massage and grooming session. So, I’m glad you refreshed my mind about the fact that I cannot count on the local barber to know how to help me manage my beard care. That responsibility is now mine. This leads me to the next point you mentioned, which is education. Since I now live in a rural area, i have to relearn how to be my own beard stylist and learn about beard care products. I’m getting braver at shaping my mane as it grows out, but some days I really wish I lived in New York or some city again, where beard stylists have become more popular. Be that as it may, RU-vid videos like yours are an excellent source of encouragement and camaraderie among those of us who wish to live bearded (again in my case), and I’m truly grateful for your video and all the others out there, teaching us o take care of our own beards.

Hi, I'm Alex. I started growing decent facial hair sometime during my tenth grade year in highschool. During my Junior year of highschool, I decided to stop shaving for about 3 months or so and got a beard that was almost as long as yours you have in this video. It was nice. I have shaved it multiple times since, and grown it out over and over again having fun with different beard designs. During my Senior year, I mainly stuck to having some sort of a beard, even if it was on a low guard setting to keep looking up kept and not wild. I recently graduated from highschool, and plan on growing my beard from scratch when I start college. I'm aiming for at least 12 -24 inches after two years. I'm just wondering if I'll be too attached to my beard after those two years to shave it off for my last couple years of college. I look forward to start growing the lumberjack look as soon as possible. I even have the long hair with buzzed undercut for a haircut, which I plan on either slicking back or putting into a man bun when the beard arrives. Your Beardbrand videos have educated me so much about beards and how to take care of them and style/grow them. Thank you. Great video story by the way.

Since I was 18 I've predominantly had a goatee and mustache. I've started seriously growing a full beard 10 months ago. With the exception of a couple of jobs, I've never really cared what the majority thinks of me. I grow my hair and beard the way I want. I wear the clothes that I'm happy with. There's a few life lessons to be learned from growing a beard. Patience and commitment are ones that come to mind. I almost at the yeard mark and I am excited for the next step of my beard journey.

I've been a firefighter for 15 years never could have a beard. I would grow a mustache here and there and a quick scruff beard on Kelly days. I got injured in the line of duty and went out on disability so that allowed me to grow a goatee a mighty long one, but I just shaved it after 3 years. I'm 2 weeks into growing a full beard but I want too do it right, I want to have the right buzzer, oil,wax ECT and I'm bald so having the right shape will be important also. Thanks for the video looking forward to my own journey.

Also in the mid 30's and have always had some degree of facial hair since I could grow it. Mostly stubble as a result of hating a close shave but needing to keep things "corporate" for my field of work. This year in April, starting a new position at the same company, I felt I needed to project a stronger image and decided to give a full beard a go. After a 2 attempts of 2 months each (before screwing the beard up trimming it and resorting to a clean shave) I'm now 3 months in and vary between loving the look and wondering if I'm maintaining it correctly during the growth process. My RU-vid recommendations are almost exclusively beard related now as I try watch as much as I can to ensure I'm going about things the right way. Caring for the beard has translated to caring for my head hair, skin and diet where I would usually not worry too much about them in the past. Not sure what the perception is at work for my new look but at the moment I really don't care and carry on performing as well as I ever have.

I'm 26 I started growing at 18 a senior in high school I had a mustache and nothing else a few years later and people commenting I looked like a chimo I grew into a chin length goatee. I was working for a pizza place so they didn't like the middle area of growing a facial hair, but when I stepped back to another job and kept the pizza place as play money (loading boxes for FedEx) they are less strict on facial hair so I have started growing out my beard, and I enjoy your videos to get helpful hints for the growing process.
