I currently make my living solely by creating videos. That's what pays my bills and if it doesn't at some point I'm confident to always find a way to support myself. Best wishes!

I definitely also envy the current life of my cat 🙃 but she had a hard life before she lived with me. So I guess everyone has their hidden hardships even if life appears to be perfect from the outside. Thank you for being able to be happy for me though, Douglas, it means a lot.
Rahel, My maternal grandparents were from Pico. My paternal grandfather was from Faial and paternal grandmother was from Flores. In 2013 I visited Faial, Pico and Sao Miguel with my cousin. It was beautiful. One of the best experiences of my life. I'm sorry that so many tourists have discovered the Azores. I suppose I am also one of those tourists, but it seems different when you're trying to trace your roots. I'd love to travel to Flores one day. I raised my 3 children on a small island off the coast of Maine in the US. I know just how peaceful island life can be. I've subscribed to your channel and look forward to see some more familiar and beautiful places.

The simple life is the best life. Time passes slower than in the city. Nancy has had some issues with arthritis. The pain is getting worse as the arthritis spreads. She somehow she presses on. Our classroom is finished and my daughter is teaching painting on her days off. That is the simple life. I worked 16 hours a day to have my dream home. I am unable to teach anymore. My health is declining. Still I press on. My 58th birthday is looming I am elderly but happy.

It makes my heart very full to read that you keep shining light on the good things in your life despite your struggles and severe health issues. Hey Ej. I have neither been to Wales nor Cyprus but both places seem to be very beautiful. My cat is happy and yes, a lot of people still make there living on their tiny fishing boats but also from fishing a lot from shore. I don't know what's the official definition of an artist, but I consider my creative work as art and therefore call myself an artist. Sending my best wishes from Pico to Wales!

Currently it is pretty warm when the sun is shining but at nights, in the shade or in the highlands it is rather chilly. Generally in the winter it goes down to 7 degrees celsius with snow on the mountain and in the summer it can be up to 37 degrees celsius. I'm curious to know what about my editing bothers you?
When you ate that tiny banana, oh my, how it took me back to my childhood years. Between bananas and figs, my brother and I were always in trouble for eating too many. They are divine, no store bought version can compete.

I also can't contain myself and eat tremendous amounts of them but thankfully one can't get in trouble for eating too much delicious food as an adult 😉 I'm going to think of you once the fig season has started🤗

Beautiful. It has been many years since I've been to Pico and to the Azores in general (about 20 years). My parents are from Faial and each time we'd go back to visit when I was younger, we'd always go to Pico as well. It is so beautiful there. I hope to return to the Azores again someday.

I am not a social media expert, but on my opinion, when you show your home on video and what you do daily is kinda interesting... Because, a simple house, simple daily tasks its kinda private and attracts ppl. Maybe some bad and envious people will try to track your location for some reason, but subscribers like me will only watch your videos with interest. I see here your book, “Earthing.” From what I gathered, the book is about walking barefoot on or grounding to the earth which has health benefits. You have always done it. I am just curious as to what you think. Are you in better health than other people who walk with shoes on? Relaxing in the early mornings also makes me nice and sleepy. Ha, ha.
Hello Eve. I was gifted this book about Earthing and so far I have only read bits and pieces. I personally am not a fan of scientific explanations, research and statistics of any kind but I'm glad that this knowledge is available for those who are interested. I walk barefoot because it feels right to me but I don't need to convince anyone else to do the same thing. I can't possibly tell if I'm in better health than people who walk with shoes on and I don't think it matters because maybe other people have other healthy habits I don't have. I think everyone needs to find what feels best to them and not blindly follow trends or statistics. It doesn't make sense to walk barefoot if you hate it only because it is said to be healthy.
I agree with you, Francis. I have never been to Ireland but whenever I see photos of it I definitely see the resemblance with the Azores as well. Even when its not sunny since we also have many grey and rainy days here 😊

Vielen Dank, dass du all diese berührenden Momente mit uns teilst, in denen zwar augenscheinlich kaum etwas und doch auf mentaler/seelischer Ebene so viel passiert. Ich beneide dich um deinen Mut, dieses Leben zu leben. Ich habe in den vergangenen Frühlingsmonaten eine Weile in Portugal verbracht und konnte einige dieser umbeschreiblichen Momente und Erkenntnisse, die du in deinen Videos teilst, nachempfinden, in denen das Leben und all das, womit man sich identifiziert, eine völlig neue Bedeutung bekommt und mein Leben langristig bereichert und positiv verändert. Es freut mich sehr, dass ich dir mit meiner Nachricht etwas zurückgeben konnte😇, Vielen Dank für die netten Worte und für dein Mitgefühl. Ich habe zum Glück Anfang des Jahres mein Studium abgeschlossen und damit auch die stressige Zeit hinter mich gebracht. Seit dem lebe ich ein vergleichsweise sehr entspanntes Leben, wofür ich gerade sehr dankbar bin. Ich reise gerade ein wenig umher und habe großes Interesse auch die Azoren zu besuchen. Ich bin mal gespannt wohin es mich langfristig verschlägt, aber deine Videos haben mich auch dazu inspiriert, eines Tages ein recht langsames und einsames Leben auszuprobieren. Die Sehnsucht dazu wird immer stärker, je älter ich werde.

Dear Rahel, Your videos are so beautiful and makes me so envious of the beautiful quiet simple life. My Parents were born on Sao Miguel, but I was born in the USA. I'm a 52 year old single women that's dreaming of leaving America and go to the Azores for the "quiet and simple life" but fear is what keeps me chained to this unhealthy American lifestyle, where all you do is work, work work and your still poor. How did you do it? Do you worry about healthcare and not speaking the language? Do you ever feel too isolated? Have you been able to make friends there and do you ever fear living alone? Im so curious how can one make a living there? You are brave Rahel and I wish I had your courage to just do itT
Dear Susan. Thank you so much for taking the time to reach out and for sharing your thoughts, sentiments and questions. I appreciate your curiosity. Firstly I know how it feels to be trapped by one's own fears and I'm sorry you are currently feeling that way but I think that's exactly where one has to start: to develop a different relationship with our fears because having fears is normal and they most likely won't just go away. Big life changes and the Unknown will always be scary and intimidating, doesn't matter how well we are prepared. In the end we have to do something we know is beneficial for us despite our fears. This process is never easy and always very uncomfortable but it will be ok. Secondly it is a lot about trusting ourselves that we can in fact deal with whatever life throws at us. If we go through with our decisions we certainly will come across difficulties but we will also find ways to deal with them. We grow with our challenges and if something is too hard we are allowed to give up or change our minds. Lastly how I'm doing it: when I first moved here I worked in tourism and since tourism is increasing a lot here lately it might be a good opportunity to look for jobs in that area as a foreigner. At the moment I make my living by creating videos. I personally never feel isolated and I enjoy spending most of my time alone but there are certainly people living here who do feel alone or isolated especially during the winter or during bad weather periods. Living on an island in the middle of the harsh Atlantic is not everyone's cup of tea but you most likely only will know how you feel about it once you have spent several months here. A lot of people here speak English and there are Portuguese language courses available. In terms of healthcare, I do not know how that works for American citizens but there surely is a way, since I know quite a few people from the US who have moved here. I hope this is somewhat helpful. Hallo Acina. Wie schön, dass du mich gefunden hast! Ich kann deine Ängste gut verstehen und sie sind absolut gerechtfertigt. So isoliert zu leben ist nicht für jeden etwas. Ich denke, dass man sich durchaus auch einsam fühlen kann und es schwer sein kann einen Partner zu finden, wenn man von sehr vielen Menschen umgeben ist. Ich persönlich fühle mich insgesamt sehr selten einsam, auch wenn ich viel alleine bin, das war aber schon immer so. Allgemein ist es meiner Meinung nach nie hilfreich, etwas nicht zu tun, weil man Angst hat. Aus Angst etwas nicht zu tun nimmt einem viel weg im Leben. Ich weiß das, weil ich auch Ängste habe. Man muss manches trotzdem machen. Alles Liebe zu dir ♥️
