Doobie Duke Sims, 42, answered a Craigslist ad for a print shop that was already set up, and taught himself how to screen-print clothing. In 2020, he created Snow Milk, a Brooklyn-based streetwear brand. Prices for his clothing range from $60 for a T-shirt to $500 for a trench coat. Last year, Sims' business brought in $278,000.

This was GREAT CNBC!!! Thank you for not featuring another RU-vidr! That was getting very old. We want to see stories like this, not RU-vidrs or people who make all their money by selling dreams to other people i.e. "money coaches etc." and the "I teach people how to earn money from what they already know" etc.

This was a great summary on what it takes to launch a brand from the ground up. The founder of Snow Milk is a true StreetCrafter. Now that he has an audience he needs to launch products at different price tiers and not be solely focused on upcycled screen printed designs. This video gives him a great platform to expand into accessories and build solid collections using blanks that have more consistent stock.

I mean, he better *punch it* while he can...I'm sure he's probably adapted to feel that things aren't even on the up for him like they actually are because he's still narrowly dodging poverty by the skin of his teeth, but he needs to grab this thing while he's got the opportunity regardless, and viciously exploit the absolute sht out of it...
@onespeedlite
@onespeedlite Год назад
I like how the video breaks down the costs of various expenses. Customers often don't realize how little profits the owners make after paying for all the expenses involved, including materials, packaging, shipping fees, wages, rent, utilities, etc. People think the owner must be rich in making $278k in sales, not realizing he could make more money working on an hourly wage job. We should all applaud him for his entrepreneurial spirit. What he is able to accomplish so far is a huge achievement, including creating new jobs for his community. I wish him continued success.
@avamasquerade
@avamasquerade Год назад
I think his "entrepreneurial spirit" is being kept busy so he doesn't compete for real resources and I think we're all being conditioned to settle for the ego pats and "good boys" rather than the steady and unrelenting pursuit and acquisition of actual wealth. He should sell the business to someone who is willing to settle for that or upscale using social media (I know you're tired of it, but he does have endless content generator that people will consume in exchange for advertiser/sponsor $, not to mention the marketing opportunities) or plug a part of that capital into dividend producing investments (until interest rates go down) and the other part into a different business without a profit/growth ceiling. I mean, anyone can make t-shirts, look at tiktok. Literally, $3k I could have a set up in my room, easy. Anyone could steal his designs (including major brands, and this parasitism is literally a part of their business model) and he wouldn't have the capital to defend his copyrights and that's not even to mention when this trend dies in the next 3 years (at most.)

If he’s doing pop-ups, markets, street fairs, etc. that’s seasonal work. Artist & Fleas isn’t open year round. Street fairs aren’t regular either. Markets are usually a weekend thing. I’m not sure how he got the $10k number but it’s probably only reflective of an average week when he’s actively selling in multiple locations. Probably has an off season, usually winter (except the holidays, when there are tons of holiday markets in NYC). Also, the posted figures are reflective of prior years. It’s possible his business has ramped up more this year and the 10k figure may be reflective of this year’s budget.

Thanks for sharing the video! Most of the clowns on the comments doesn’t get that it takes years for a business to not only break even, but also make a profit! It’s not an easy feat for a small business owner! You are doing your thing and people failed to read that you also have multiple streams of income coming in, this is not your only business venture ! I live in New York and know it’s challenging to sell on the streets & get permits ect ! So if you are doing your thing in New York and getting 1/4 of a million dollars the past year after opening in 2019 that is an amazing feat! Don’t listen to the haters and naysayers, keep it up and you will be a multimillionaire! Next try to negotiate with some of the stores that sells tshirts like yours in the malls & nationwide! I love to see business men & women win! Small businesses keep the economy going! Best of luck & success in your future! 👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾😊

I would love to buy his designs. They look amazing and it's rare to find t shirts with the right colour palette. Most places get it wrong. So worth it. But his body will be wrecked when he is done. Trust me. I know my dad worked at least 360 days a week and now I'm doing the same. Once packaging, electricity, delivery and cleaning costs went up due to inflation we didn't even make 10,000 dollars this year and we don't have the inventory for next year. He is clever to sell his brand when he is making money. The owner always puts in all the work and that is why it is profitable. If he slacked for one minute he would have lost everything. Ppl think business owners make a ton of money. They don't. But they do if they are miserly.

The Market has been pretty bad until today it decided to surge. Everybody was Practically Crying then. It kept dipping. That's what you get when you feel you can navigate the process on your own. Big thank to lisa Ann I'm not bothered with how bad the Market is because my assests are insured due to her advice and I still receive my profits

I think she trades for everybody I know. Met her twice at a conference in Germany, after her lecture I had to personally beg her to be my Finacial Advicer. I celebrate her strong feet.

If I were him.. I would pay 2k more for a bigger apartment and work from home. It's taxable at that point plus less employees..

Another RU-vid video asks by NYC rents are so exorbitant. This video is the answer. Mr. Sims is not going to get $60 for a T-shirt in Albany or even Buffalo. People put up with the numerous incivilities of NYC for the sake of the richest market in America.
