Thank you for this interview. I GMed Runequest First Edition and haven't run a game since. I am currently developing a version of the new edition and I find I want to explore the mythology and cultures far more than I did all those years ago. I'm finding watching documentaries about Bronze Age Empires and Civilizations very inspiring with ideas of tone setting. They totally believed in each other's myths and would steal each others statues and idols when conquering an enemy city. I want my game to have that feel to it but not burden the players too much in learning the mythology unless they want to put in the time. I think it needs to be everywhere in the world for them to experience it better.
There are a couple of really good videos on Maggie Mae Fish's channel about Campbell and the monomyth concept. Lots more directions she offers for expanding game narratives.
