How Narcissist Invades Your Mind (Introject, Imago, Internal Object)

Introjects are amalgams of representations of external object, affects, memories, and cognitions combined with a representation of the self.
Creating internal objects is a primitive way to reduce anxiety (anxiolytic). The narcissist creates anxiety and triggers introjection in his victims.
Early childhood introjects are confused with the authentic self. Later life introjects are not.
Most introjects are aggressive and sadistic. Narcissist’s introject is no exception.
Introjects are not the small people in the TV (photoshopping).
The voices are not merely recordings of the originals replayed.
Introjects are created instantly (snapshotting) and are not a function of the length of exposure to the originals but of their significance and function (e.g. infant-mother, narcissist-others).
We are born with capacity to introject but with no introjects.
Empathy is a form of introjection-identification. But, it is instinctual and, therefore, a threat to the ego and split it off.

Professor?! Is that your baby picture over your shoulder? Sooo cute 🤗 I’m sick of the narcissist I’m married to and the family I was raised with. I didn’t know, now I’m upset I didn’t know. They’ve all been using and abusing me forever. I will figure out a way, to live the rest of my life, in peace 🙏

Introjects are the reason children love cartoons. They are very analogous

Wow! You just blew me away! I vividly remember being on the steps outside with my parents other child. I was maybe 3 y.o. and he was trying to explain to me that cartoons were not real. 😮

This is fascinating and really helps with understanding the big WHY. Since studying narcissism I can now "reason" my way out of the loop. For journaling purposes, I can now apply and resolve, somewhat. Each attribute of his disorder I can refer to past events, series of events, conversations, kept secrets and start to resolve this relationship anxiety and unfairness-ness with logical understanding. Thank you.

17:39 - Is this why Narcissists make such overwhelmingly positive (love-bombing) first impressions? To anchor an introject of their false self in your mind from the beginning?

I believe so, but I don’t think they do it on purpose. This is something they have done their whole life so it’s just automatic. This is their interraction with everybody, in friendships aswell

I think a narcissist introjects you and copies your behaviours that are desirable to him.

Bingo. I’ve literally watched them mirror the desirable parts of their partner, and scrutinise the rest when it’s attack time. Most likely because the undesirable parts reaffirm that they are not you, that there is person that doesn’t align with the fantasy, therefore those traits are seen as a threat to pop the bubble. When you cause narc injury, they straight away, start to mock the parts of you they didn’t like. They use these traits to represent you solely, (in a bad light to others) and try to take on your other traits as a representation of them. They essentially mirror and steal your personality, and attempt to replace those spaces with their voice. Soon enough, if you lose yourself … you come back begging them, and faulting yourself. But only because, you want a glimpse of what they “took from you” . You want them to accept accountability = you want them to trade off those voices they installed & give you back that part of your identity.

My questions: does everyone form introjects? Or only people with fractured egos (narcissists)? You said either you do or you don't but also all people do as an infant. So the narcissist creates introjects that was similar to introjects formed by their mother rejecting them or failing to give me them need care before the age of 3? Everyone important to you has some kind of introjects in you because attachment requires introjection? Imago is more like a kaleidoscope of introjects that represent introjects of the mother that failed to give the care that the infant needed before the age of 3?

Wait, are introjects why a certain kind of nerd is really uncomfortable to be around? Not all nerds, like the ones who are obsessed with Star Wars, Marvel movies, or anything else that is relatively mid, but they act like it is the most amazing mot impotent thing ever. Like they take something that is mid and imagine it to be much grater than it is. And don't realize that it is their own imagination that they are in love with. Not the thing that they are obsessed with and center their life around

If a 12 month old baby suddenly loses her mother, who was present but neglectful and drug addicted, gets a new mom after being dumped off with a few family members for 2 months, is the new mom, who’s trying really hard, subject to that original mother introject?
@samvaknin
@samvaknin 3 месяца назад
No. The infant will gradually form a new introject. But it is scarred for life.
