You described my marriage to a tee. I was married for 34 years and together 36 years. He cheated on me all our marriage but I would not believe what people told me. I finally left at age 58, 4 years after our youngest child left home. As you can see, I wanted years after the last left hoping things would get better. I didn't think I would survive the first year on my own but I did. I am 61, have a job that I love, bought my own home and love my life on my own. I thank you for sharing your story, it looks to me that I am doing the same thing that you had done, still waiting for thing to change over time, well about three or four days ago I read a quote that said "Marriage does not stop a man from cheating, only the fear of GOD will". Well as I read all of these comments and listen to all of the different scenarios and experiences from all of the women with narcs for spouses and partners and now I come across yours I am learning that time and accomplishments will not make a narc settle down only the fear of GOD will and these men have an inkling of knowledge that GOD can humble them but they don't care so leaving a narc before too much time passes by is a strong consideration.

He was never satisfied no matter what I did. I worked cooked cleaned laundry errands. I did it all and he never appreciated any of it. He actually made me feel like everything I did was of no value. He would continue to do the silent treatment the entire 24 years we were married. I always thought it was me and all the time it was him. He couldn't cope with anything in life. He was a grown child! I cannot believe I put up with this insanity and survived it for so long. I've learned I got practice from my mother and other family members. Thank God they're all out of my life and now I have a chance for peace!

Both men and women can fall in love with the same person. It is a paradox that such talent in one aspect of life could exist next to such idiocy in the next moment. But, the most difficult lesson is earned later when he or she becomes the very last person you should ever trust on anything. Essentially this desperate, frightened and unlovable individual wants to be hugged and protected by anyone stronger or wiser than he/she. All their selfish, bombastic, and reckless behaviors are designed to create more space and exceptions for the actor. The boundaries that are shattered may be sacred to you, but meaningless to them. This is how they stun onlookers and seize the moment hypnotizing their prey. Imagine what a deer does when headlights catch them halfway across the road. That’s what they try to achieve with bigger and bigger audiences. Furthermore, they are always testing true believers for the extent of their situational loyalty. This repeating fraudulent cycle explodes opportunities to gain leverage and do crimes upon the unwitting fools that he intended to set up all along. So, his game always creates and follows the same cycles. Once you get used to the way he/she speaks, thinks, and connives, you can see if its you about to be set up, or whom among the key players that show loyalty. The narcissist giant blindspot is two fold: 1) they make a bunch of repeated mistakes, and 2) never expect the person that is setting him up to be caught. The narcissist rarely does anything he’s never done many times before. And, in most of the mistaken actions he doesn’t learn, improve, or vary in the end result. Lastly, the narcissist never works alone, he always recruits willing volunteers to abuse. Often these people are from the hypnotized or the smitten that become abusable volunteers that will always let him come back in. The cycles are always a version of what he did before. Had I known about covert narcissism years ago I could have left when I was young enough to start fresh. When we were married for 15 years I had lost some weight feeling pretty good about myself. He took me to Smoky Mountains for our 15th anniversary (How romantic Lmao.) To date I have only been on three vacations with him in 40 years together, He says “I hate the beach”. He uses his vacation time for hunting season’s every year. I bought a nighty to surprise him for our 15 year anniversary that he asked me to do so. I didn’t feel confident enough wearing one because of him. I came out of the restroom wearing it and just like I thought, he laughed at me. I never did that again. I can remember him making love to me three times the rest of the times he was just getting off on me. The stories that I heard from people about the stuff he was doing while supposedly hunting and I was home with our children and or on bed rest while being pregnant. He won’t let me work. He won’t let me have any friends and my own family disowned me, he is all I have sadly enough. He is so rude to me like to get a reaction from me. He is so immature and does inappropriate things always at the wrong time like he is forever 14 years old. I could write a book. He’d rather talk on his phone to his buddies every night for a few hours in the living room where I am trying to watch TV he tells me that he can’t hear, we only have one tv. He passes gas across the room from me then looks at me like I did something wrong and waiting for a reaction from me. Run do not walk because this is only gets worse. You cannot change a Narcissist.
My over 50 year marriage, I remember asking him one day did he think he was perfect, his answer was yes! I am!! I had no idea why he treated me this way, until I asked him to leave…..he did, but yes you guessed it he still tried to control my life. The things I heard back that he’d said about me was heart breaking!

God will understand if you want to leave. I stayed for 36 years, 34 married. I did everything I could to make him happy. Things go worse over the years. As a Christian, I felt I failed. If God wanted me to stay, why did things happen to allow me to leave? A good job was offered to me in my darkest hour. I will be out for 3 years, June 1st, I have been divorced a year last Christmas day and I have bought myself a little house. I feel joy in my life for the first time and feel closer to God because he helped my through my darkest moments. May God bless you in your marriage or in your departure.

They will never change don’t waste your time make a life of yourself and give him the silence treatment don’t fall into their trap nobody own you!!! Reading all your comments makes me so sad i want to cry knowing you all go through the same as i do, i think the most traumatic for me is the "unbelief of the" humiliation and degradation that comes from this persons mouth when you're alone. My God....this broke my heart. Sometimes I want to believe there will be a change but upon reading the comments of folks enduring these relationships for 18 and 32 years, it is a wake up call. Am in my 3rd year with one and he knew I wanted this to be my one and only marriage so the nastiness would not stop even in moments of a little peace from the mental and emotional abuse I would still wait for when the next drama would start. It's a constant roller coaster toxic ride.

I can totally relate causeI was in a relationship with a narcissist that might be a sociopath or psychopath as well. The whole relationship I questioned my self worth. He would lift me up just to stomp me down over & over again for 3 years. Everyone told me to get out & run away, but I couldn’t see why, I was in love with all the good we had that I honestly pushed all the bad aside to make him happy. But the truth was he was happy when he made me feel low. He was the happiest when he knew I had given him control it. The moment I stood up for myself was the moment it got physical. He made me out to be the “crazy” woman online & his friends would laugh at me for the things he did to me. I was embarrassed, ashamed & low. The whole thing was so stressful I landed myself in the hospital with a heart problem. Even then I didn’t see it for what it was. He was no where to be found as I would collapse on the floor from poor circulation. Even then “I was making up illnesses for attention not until a friend of mind introduced me to this hacker on INSTAGRAM @ "Tech_Expert211" who helped me to access my husband's phone & gave me all the necessary informations I need so i can get a divorce,now I'm free from my narc husband .

I have known this narcissistic neighbor for 30 years and have had many property disputes with him because he wants to use my property as a dumping ground for all his crap -- I finally started saying "NO" and the battle began. I sometimes wonder how his wife stands this behavior. - yesterday I was working in my yard and she was on a ladder and I thought she was going to fall and when she turned around I was in shock because at 50 she looks like she is 80. The opposite of love is not hate..its indifference..to my ex I was a nonentity..I was nothing..our money..house..kids and friends were all his. Nothing belonged to me..I was his wife..he thought he owned me..he treated me as if I was one of his kids..I had to ask his permission to exist..he made sure that I made the decisions ...that way if it turned out bad...I was to blame...not him...when I filed for divorce he tapped my phone and had me followed...he couldn't understand why I wanted a divorce ...HE was happy.
So very accurate. I was with my ex for 10 years and had 4 children together. Although they are adults now unfortunately I still have to deal with him occasionally. Thankfully he lives out of state. When I filed for divorce and we went to court he brought his pregnant girlfriend and contested our divorce. I won and got the divorce. He married his girlfriend the next day. That didn’t last either.

The stories that I am reading here are so awful, my heart breaks for these women. I have had a few narcissists in my past and these stories are bringing it all back to me. I got in trouble once for walking too slow. Also, there was yelling! If I scraped the knife or fork on the plate while we were eating, there would be a lot of yelling. He was really good looking, but short. One time we went with friends to a bar. One of his friends was there and my friend and I hadn’t met him before. My friend was really tiny and she had had a tape worm so she was super skinny. She liked that friend and so we talked to him for awhile - he was funny. When we got home, he yelled at me for talking to that friend so much. He accused me of flirting and said that I was a slut. The whole thing was so ridiculous that I didn’t take him seriously, and when he came at me like he was going to physically hurt me, I just walked around him and took his place. So we had switched placed. Later the next day, he said to me, “You know, I was going to do something to you, but you just walked past me! You weren’t scared at all!” I said that I can’t be afraid of a man who is the same size as me. Plus, he was already such a nightmare, I it was just a matter of a few more months and I booted him out. We were only married for a year and a half. He was such a big puss that i had lost all respect for him within 6 months. OH! I forgot my favorite one: When I was married to him, I thought I should clean the house every week - that was something my mom did, but she didn’t have a job so it was a little different. One time, I had just finished cleaning and he came home, made dinner for himself, took the plate of food upstairs and into the bedroom to eat and watch TV. When he was finished with his meal, HE PUT THE PLATE OUT IN THE HALLWAY FOR ME TO PIPCK UP AND TAKE DOWNSTAIRS!!! Like he was living in a hotel or something. He didn’t clean up the kitchen either! Jackass!!!

This is just so true. Every word. It was interesting and insightful and why I was treated the way I was by my husband and why friends and others said what they did about me. I realised his behaviour and after our Divorce have watched what he does the the second and much younger Wife. The description is incredibly accurate and the life I had was taken away from me, along with money, possessions and self esteem. I was told he lost control of me and he constantly cheated, left and wanted back because he realised he would lose some of his income and he dismissed our two children, was violent and controlling to our Children and made his step daughter all. He said because she wasn’t his and seeing the way it tormented his own children gave him immense delight. He destroyed our daughter and her life totally to the point she attempted suicide but I came home unexpectedly and after a lengthy period in ICU recovered bt she searches for love and acceptance and even with psychiatric help the damage is too deep.

Some of these sound like men who haven't grown up yet, who had ineffective parents who ignored them or spoiled them and as a result they haven't yet discovered the value of becoming more than just King Baby, or that they are capable of emotional maturity. The difference between immature men and narcissist men is that narcissists do not have the capability of deep, lasting positive change, and their behaviors are worse than just selfishness or self protectiveness. Much more manipulative and cold. And they often pretend to be a better person than they are, to trick and hurt you.

It's not just wives, I had a malignant narcissistic brother who acted exactly like this & literally tried to make my life Hell. He ended up falling off a rood & died at work. My friends said, "God took him away so he couldn't torture you anymore." He had his entire family kept at home with absolutely no friends or contacts.

When I read about how narcissist husbands abused their wives to the point of attempting to kill them, I get scared. My husband owns 4 guns and wants more. He recently told me he doesn’t care about me, he doesn’t respect me and he thinks low of me. I feel so broken, and I want to leave but the people around me told me to give it till the end of the year. That maybe he will change once he sees me making more efforts. He makes me question if I actually have done enough and I come to think I haven’t. I still don’t know if I have. I am troubled and I feel alone.

I use to get threatened divorce at every opportunity some days it was almost everyday .. eg if I text him to tell him something I’m doing he’d scream … you are divorced!! Literally over anything big or small or strange things that a normal human would never even think of doing . Then finally behind my back he went and got married for the 4th time again to a youth first cousin in Pakistan leaving me with a little baby and small kids . I found out upon his arrival to his destination that he got married 2days upon arrival. Apparently it was all planned he bought clothes etc to get hitched and I had no idea what he was doing .. his mother promised that she would destroy my marriage and my children’s lives only because she was a evil B***** and now is rotting under the soil or should I say she’s rotting the soil ! She took her grown A** grey haired son and got him married to her niece . 2 years later I find out through courts that he had divorced me before he left to get married which was when he was sitting at my house and eating my hand cooked meals and sleeping on my bed and looking at me in the eyes and hiding the fact that I was divorced yet I had to find out two years later … btw he divorced her 3months later of marrying her… and dragged me though courts defaming my character and building a fake story about my mental health but guess what I won and he is the loser who is still using street workers to get his satisfaction I found out from his family member just after he got married that he was bringing Prostitutes into their spare bedroom and sometimes it was Two women at a time and he got caught having s** with both at the same time .. while I was unaware and raising his kids and a small baby who till now does not know he has a dad .. after dragging me through courts he failed to attend the final hearing … His mask fell off because he couldn’t keep up with the pretence no longer . The aftermath of all his abuse I endured during our over decade relationship which was off more than on us I’m now suffering from ptsd and can’t sleep during nights due to the trauma . I’d rather sleep a bit less and be tired than be miserable and walking on eggshells with that ugly evil devil . He is now rotting in his little world which he created while I have my beautiful babies around me to love and love me

My narcissistic husband was also a drug attic “meth” I barely survived, the psychological and emotional abuse. He died some years back from his meth habit. Now I live alone, unable to move forward in life, frozen interfere with a huge amount of distrust in everybody, I meet, I live alone and lonely and unhappy and I’m pretty sure that’s going to be the way it is for the rest of my life

Suffice to say, they need supply at all times and if kids, or her job, or any other “life” thing is taking that away from him, he will go get it somewhere else. It Boils down to a deep insecurity that he pretends to fill with admiration and attention. Even though it’s not real, and he knows it will never be enough for him.
To therapy my husband said: it ain’t happening. It never happened. I thought I was desperately in love with him and never left. The “love” is gone but I feel it’s too late now. What’s the point.
I think I’m seeing this as a heads up NOT to marry my son’s dad, even if he finally cracks down and is willing after a plethora of countless times of me saying I wanted marriage before sex and then he’d get sex from me eventually somehow anyways. I don’t actually desire to be married to someone like him, I just want the sex part to be hopefully honoring God if it’s going to happen. Ya my husband has some narc tendencies but I am a pit Bull and will not ever put up with his shit. I have my own life and I am extremely busy. I will always love me, be my own advocate and will always stick up for myself. I am strong and extremely self confidant! I believe in me!
At this moment, he is in the kitchen and I’m in my room. I try to talk to him and have a conversation but every time I do, he says something yo hurt my feelings so I stay away from him when I can. He’s been upset with me giving me the silent treatment when 2 days ago I caught him cheating in social media again! Like I’m just supposed to ignore it. If it were me I’m sure things would have been way worse than the way I acted. He’s miserable so ani but he won’t leave nor let me leave. I’m going to sneak out though because this is staring to happen too often! 🥲🥲🥲
What a lot of people don't realize is, "this is a life or death decision". Your health is not going to be able to withstand the treatment forever. You will get sick and die, no one is worth your life! Get out ASAP! Don't look back.

@@vienchan4975 A good question to ask your self is"what if he leavese me"? You would have to make it on your own at that time. Why not draw the line in the sand? When he cross it move on. It's hard but remember, if they leave you, you wouldn't have a choice but to make it.
I’m sorry to you’re in this situation - it’s hard if you’ve been stripped of your survival skills through years of wearing manipulative behaviour and grooming to be their full time audience and rescuer. Any change is hard - but if you need to make a change, look around you, find out side supporters, if you can’t access any, find some new outlets of support and try to regain your power to stand in your feet.
