Dogs and cats are being fed highly processed commercial feeds, most of which have questionable ingredients and are heavily processed, not containing whole foods in their natural form as nature would have intended for millennia until mankind starting making processed foods. My dog eats a keto diet. This would be the closest to his natural diet, albeit it is cooked as it would have been once humans and dogs partnered. I am too afraid of contaminated meat to give it to him in raw form.

What about cancer in humans and other hominids before any type of processed foods etc.? I don't think anyone disagrees with healthy living and diet. But even then, cancer does occur sometimes. Then it's a question about treatment. Also, in any case, this presentation is about the difference in cancer in large animals compared to small animals. Small rodents eat natural diets, but still get cancer. You'd think their chances of getting a deadly tumor would be minimal at best. Alas, the different types of cancer are more complicated than that..
@@johndoe-tk6en Our current knowledge seems to disagree with that notion. I doubt many of us eat only meat, and nothing else. Like most if not all issues when it comes to humanity, it's complicated. We are excellent hunters, our guts can digest all kinds of food, and our brain uses up a lot of power, so only gathering food without farming or hunting for example, just won't do for long.

All of the animals listed eat a species specific diet. The Human Diet has been primarily animal based until the advent of agriculture 12,000 years ago. The Inuits were thought to be immune to cancer until they started eating a post agricultural diet with lots of processed food such as flour and sugar and then their « immunity » disappeared. Modern humans don’t eat human specific diets anymore and now we all suffer Metabolic Diseases. Hmm, are scientist not seeing the elephants and the whales in the room. These animals and others made up the Specific Human Diet without aspirin and our pre-agricultural ancestors were « immune » to Cancer. The early advanced agricultural societies all had cancer and other metabolic diseases.
I have cancer, my own opinions are cancer grows in the environment we create for it. What we feed ourselves both mentally and physically is our cause of most cancer. I believe we can beat if we focus on a few things diet, exercise, stuck emotions and positivity

The keto diet has drastically reduced my chronic inflammation. Aspirin has many adverse side effects, and in order to take aspirin regularly, you have to take proton pump inhibitors which in turn have serious side effects. A diet without sugar and minimal carbohydrates solves the inflammation problem with no adverse side effects.
Doctors use therapies that big pharma researches, produces, teaches, and pays them to use on their patients. It's all about money, first and foremost. People need to start taking more care of their lives, including the body which is just a word to communicate certain practical or non practical things. In fact I see an analogy between every single human embedded in its cultural environment, and every single cell embedded in its psycho-biological environment. A single human being can be very different in its self awareness and develop accordingly a different intelligence in order to achieve something. There we all agree that something individual makes the differences and scores. But with health we still propagate (propaganda) that pharma employees know better, and teach the doctors, who teach the patients, who must obey to death... This can go on and on and still wont guarantee that everybody sees clearly what I see clearly. So I can't persuade everybody for how deluded we still are in some serious matters. @@jimbeaver27 We are evolved to eat meat and plants. The problem is… most of us are eating processed foods with added sugar, and we also have a lot of junk food options… also high in sugar. If what I’ve learned is correct, sugar feeds cancer. If we just ate pure grass fed meats and organic fruits and vegatables… well, we’d all be a lot healthier of course, but maybe we’d have a lot less people developing cancer. That number will probably never be zero, but I think it’s entirely possible for us to achieve lower rates of its development to some degree by eating a complete and total, natural diet.
Not really. Apoptosis can also be driven by autophagy, which is basically fasting. When you include fasting as a common aspect of your lifestyle and reduce sugar intake to reasonable levels, you have a better chance of starving off cancerous cells, without having to take aspirins or pills with side effects.

I must've missed the bit about aspirin but just to let you all know my husband had nearly died because he was taking half an aspirin every day, prescribed by his doctor! It has damaged the lining of his stomach and had caused him to be sick with blood. Sitting outside the resuscitation room for an hour was then the most awful thing in my life! Do not take aspirin as a preventative measure!!
All these animals are grass/leaf eaters, except the whale, but whales also eat tons of plankton, which has chlorophyll, if I am not mistaken. Just food for thought.
Okay so Aspirin helps prevent cancer because it's anti inflammatory, there's plenty of anti inflammatory foods you can incorporate into your diet that won't cause the harmful side effects of aspirin. I'm not going to make an insanely long list just google anti inflammatory foods :). Oh btw Intermittent Fasting is another excellent way of reducing inflammation (among other benefits...). I just gave you things to look up, start researching :D
He PROVED his point - 40 copies of p53 versus 2 for humans.... they damaged elephant cells and observed that they were much more sensitive to DNA damage and expressed apoptosis much more aggressively. So why is everyone getting side tracked about diet? Plus humans (and primates) have been getting cancer for ever at much higher rates than elephants. Yes, diet plays a part in DNA damage... but so do a lot of other things like ionizing radiation. So what happens after the DNA is damaged is also very important.

Fascinating talk. Great video! Human health choices are obviously first available line of defense. Inflammation is often self inflicted through dietary error, lack of sleep, drinking/drugging and other controllable factors. The aspirin mention was interesting. Some foods can be used instead, which contain same or similar component. Will be interesting to see if scientists can utilize the genetic data and upgrade human cells to do what the elephants and other large animal cells do to stop malignancy. Maybe a supplement can be developed somehow, to "fix" human cells in such a manner. 😎

How about these wild animals don't develop cancer because they aren't exposed to lots of carcinogens every day? What about cancer in small wild animals? As far as I'm aware it's domesticated pets that develop cancer - and likely so since they are exposed to the same toxins/radiation and environmental stress as humans. I feel this issue is more about cancer is not developing due to minimal exposure to carcingens rather than it being suppressed by some biological mechanism.

Cancer is higher in humans than in elephants because of our "extreme" environment. So that's all the: food, drinks, drugs, toxic exposure and other lifestyle factors that a human experiences; such extremities are seen less in elephants. If someone makes a big deal about it, I will reference all this, but I really can't be bothered right now.
How do you justify cancer in healthy humans who live healthy lifestyles then? Or people who smoke and take drugs and eat junk and processed food not getting a single cell of cancer? Like the video says. Elephants have more copies of that P53 gene and are more responsive to genetic damage. Cancer is caused by buildup of genetic damage which mutates the cell. So even aging can cause cancer. That's why more elderly people have cancer than younger people.

How you cure cancer depends on what caused it. Unresolved physical, emotional or environmental stress seem to be the main causes. If you remove the root cause you cure the cancer.
I have been taking asprin in small amounts, every day, for twenty years, after I read an article in a science magazine. I am now 70 years old and in full health. I have cost the health service zero apart from a rock climbing accident a couple of years ago.
@Austin Yipeo That's not really how radiation therapy works.. It's a targeted method. Otherwise you could send cancer patients to Chernobyl and hope for the best. With the different chemotherapy drugs, it is far less targeted, and will stop useful cells from reproducing, but it still gives you a chance. If you're saying that improving your chances of survival is not worth the destruction that chemotherapy drugs do, then that's a personal preference I'm sure, but if it does increase your chances, and you can live with the losses that it brings, then it seems worth it.

Since cancer is a metabolic disease subtractive therapy may work. Subtract something cancer needs that normal cells do not. That something appears to be sugar, ergo change of diet. Question: Most of the animals you gave as examples of suppressing cancer don't live very long (I think). So the cancer cells wouldn't have time to spread. I think elephants and whales live long so I think they are good examples. But I suspect the other animal examples may be a bit of a red herring
I'm really grateful that there are scientists passionately working to pry open evolutionary secrets in order to reduce suffering. Personally, I am vegan in expectation that a well nourished body, mostly free of environmental toxins and processed "foods" will be able to withstand cancerous assaults on my system. Also, apparently populations who drink a lot of green tea are more resistant to cancer, so that might be an interesting avenue to explore.

I agree. And in addition, dr. Nick Gonzalez was curing cancer with his patients in New York City until he passed away suddenly a couple of years ago. His success rate was pretty high as well, possibly higher then the percentage you said. I thought gerson's rate was more like 80 to 90. Could be old facts.
