A Charlotte Observer investigation found that a hidden world of drugs, sex and gang violence thrives inside North Carolina prisons - and that officers who are paid to prevent such corruption are instead fueling it.

Haha. If you beleive a guard or cop more so over a person without that type of job your the kind of people they love nice and niave heops them get away with it way more. As for the cameras it alteady took mad long for the law for regular cops to have that no way are they gonna with prison guards. If they do im surprised in my state they alo got caught raping all the women on prison and knocking them up and i had a friend unfortunately who ended up in prison and she told me onle some of what theyd do. She was on there from being one of those crazy computer hacker types shes smart but obviously not that smart ending in prison but seems those guards needed prison more than the prisoners. And this guy saying he just became a correctional officer will get to see the buddies he made be the same way 10 times worst then even the murders in prison

This stuff is real. The officers pit people against each other and attempt to keep things unbalanced as a way of preventing the inmates from forming large groups that could work together.

"Every 11 hours a officer is assaulted" LMAO! How does that even compare to about 1 or 2 prisoners being beaten every hour in your system? They're not lying about how easy it is to get drugs in there! Instead of driving down the street to hook up, you just walk a few cells down, you're all set! They're right about one thing, prisoners do run the place! But it's usually one or two with money and lots of pull! Guards will treat them like a respected human being, call them "Sir" and do whatever they ask. Guards will not EVER put their hands on them the wrong way! They know if they did they could die for it! The older white woman, she at least is telling some harsh truths! She was the most real part of this whole video! The Warden and the Director of Corrections are just "Politicians" !!!!!!! If you'll notice they say a lot of words to say very little if anything! True Politicians and Snake Oil peddlers! The Colonel Sanders looking retired guard, he tries to make him self sound good. But I'd bet the bank this same guy has stomped and laid boot to many men in his career! Don't fall for his "Poor me" crap! The big young guy (Guard), he sounds like he's just a big over grown kid! Not saying he's a dummy or anything. But he is too naive for this job! The job will either turn him hateful and mean or break him! This whole video was "Scripted"! It was BS!!!!! These so called prisoners either memorized their lines or read a teleprompter! There is soooooooooooooooo much they aren't saying!!!!!! I know some of you are thinking WTF? Why does he say all this? I am the "Oliver Twist" of my time! I was abused from age 3 and ran away at age 10. Got picked up and put into the "System". I never got out of that "System" till I was age 30. I'm 58 today and live a good life. But I have been to 14 foster homes, 5 Detention homes, 3 Boys Schools, 2 group homes. As an adult 5 city jails 6 prisons. I know the "System" literally like the back of my hand inside and out! I know the train loads of money made from jails and prisons the Tax payers fork over! I know the "Politics" involved like the Warden. He's a powerful political entity in his area! He could be a Governor in no time in his Political career! I know about human nature, the mentality of both prisoners and guards as well as the politicians running the place from their end. I know about a thousand different scams involved in prisons and the things we tax payers have to pay for! I'm a man who's been to some very dark and bloody places where there's only one rule - Survive! Our entire Judicial system is working just fine! It is designed to escalate several problems from drugs to human nature and make a profit from it! To keep people "Coming Back" in the name of "Profit"! That's what the "System" is designed to do, make "Profit", and it does this by the train loads just like "Wars" which is designed to make "Profit"! You think "What Profits? We don't see them!" You'd be right! "We" aren't the ones that designed the "System" or run it! The "Government" does and that's who sees all these profits! So from the "Governments" point of view, the "System" works great and banks train loads of money!!!!!!!!! It's from "Our" point of view that the "System" seems to be broken! But "No!" It does exactly what it's designed to do! "Crime" does PAY! It's just that "We" are the Currency in that equation! The Government profits VERY WELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Anamosa State Penitentiary is Iowa's largest male prison. About 20 years ago, Warden William Sperfslage converted it into a Hell Hole riddled with non-stop crimes committed by his staff members. From raping inmates and giving birth to their babies, to beating the disabled and killing others by repeat usage of TASER guns, inmates become victims the moment they enter this fortress of darkness. Each year numerous prison officers are caught smuggling drugs, liquor, cell phones, weapons, and many other forms of contraband into this prison. To prevent the public from learning of the crimes being committed by state employees whose salary is paid with their taxes, the prison officials are allowed to resign and face no criminal prosecution. Injustice is widespread in the Iowa Department of Corrections. William Sperfslage should be serving a life sentence in the torture chamber he created. Roger Dunyan and Vernon Isaac were the two most vicious guards.

I did 36 months in NC doc, started at Polk Ci, went to Morrison green clothes, Foothills CI, Hyde, CP(for medical only) Dan River work farm, then to Brown Creek CI. Majority of the time you would have to watch your back around the CO's, witnessed many CO's being active gang members. Fighting inmates in mop closet's just cuz they didn't like them or were jealous of their status on the compound. Majority of the contraband comes in from CO's, Some small things would come in from visitation or inmate workers. But the Cell Phones, Suboxones, packs of Cigarettes, Weed, K2, etc comes from the guards. Hell, inmates in HCON(2 years plus segregation) who were mostly high-ranking gang members were getting cellphones, explain that when no other GP inmate is allowed or goes in HCON...EVER. It's a problem all the way up the chain of command guards, Sgt's, LT's, Majors, Captains, STG Investigators are corrupt. It's wild on the close custody & even Medium compounds. I've been out since 2011 & haven't been back since, only spent a few nights in county. That life is for the suckers & birds💪

That drug rehab program was a little more chill, but that shit was wide open in 99-00. I did my last couple months at Sandhills(minimum, green clothes, camp)...got so normality before hitting the streets again. I'm not even from N.C., I'm from New Orleans..we don't even have gangs down here, we get down, just no organizations, A whole culture shock! A heavy lesson to learn at 18-20 years old.

36 months in NCDOC and you are cocky enough to comment on what u "saw" here? Please, don't make me laugh. You left the system because you were scared from them! Gangster or not, they are all the same to me even now. It is just Bunch of stupidity gathering in the same place. Tell you the truth, i see this everyday and the only emotion i have to them is just LOL without pity. You had the keen mind to find out those Gangster in CO suit, why didn't you step up and speak out the truth but wait until here to disclose? You got mouth to speak out man! Besides, SOP already mentioned NC prison system will terminate those gangster CO immediately once being found. In 2022 there were 9 apparent “suicides” which is abnormally high per the article, but most of these inmates requested protection because they were afraid of other inmates. They never had suicidal tendencies and they ended up hanging themselves. Why would someone ask for protection because they fear of losing their life just to kill themselves. My uncle lost his life in Bertie correctional institution but he was not suicidal. He asked for protection at midnight and when he was last checked was at 4 am? The warden Bruce Hodges stated they do rounds every 40 min but failed to “ check” up on him and then found him dead. They have changed their stories 3 times already and he got irritated that we were asking questions. Please keep spreading the work about these NC prisons. God will bring justice.

However, members of society go through hard ships & mess up in life god forbid someone else decide their fate and are in prison for life. Find productive things for them to do the prison system is one of the most if not the most lucrative "businesses" and I said businesses in the world. They profit off of of peoples misfortunes. First thing if an officer has a sexual relationship or is in any way introducing contraband to unit. That officer needs be made example and prosecute it to full amount of the law. This we’ll show all the inmates and staff new or old not to do that or you are going to jail yourself. I’ve seen officer work 20 years then decide have sex with inmates and nothing happened besides officer was about to walk away and resign and, that’s not right. Too many officers are dirty and face not punishment for what they did. Officer bring in cellphones and drugs then get resign like nothing happened because the state or the warden is too worried about making their facility look bad. You make yourself look better by saying hey, this a zero tolerance and and everyone whe decides to not follow the rules will be prosecuted.

I went to sleep and woke up to walk out my front door to more cops. He went to press charges at the court house first thing. I bonded right out and hired a paid lawyer who’s now a superior court judge. I lost the case. They say I shouldn’t of swung twice. And they even charged me with theft of his bat because I didn’t leave it beside him but that was dropped as I gave it to my lawyer. Id do the same if presented with the same threat. I trusted the system until I was found guilty of assault with a deadly weapon that wasn’t even mine. My gun was in my car. If I wanted to use a weapon to assault I would’ve just killed the man and dead men don’t speak. Don’t talk about a system you’ve never been apart of. It’s crooked as hell. 4 years ago video....being a veteran CO in this state, I have a lot of thought after watching this video. and i confirmed that the main reason why they can step up and freely to speak out in this video is because they are no longer working in Central Prison anymore. One thing this video never mention is nobody likes to take this unnecessary risks to deal with "offenders" with the following reasons: 1. COVID happened. we all knew what happen. and prison has no exception. 2. After all those ex-cons being released on the street fueled with hatred against law enforcement because they simply were being arrested from their own stupidity (it is stupid when they knew all those crimes they did were breaking the law and think they can get away with the law.). 3. RU-vid audiences here who were being blind-eye by RU-vid storytellers here. Truth is not what they pursuit here, nope, they want dramatic! 4. Thanks to all those administrative staff who spoiled all those offenders around the state and granting too much unnecessary privilege because they are scared of retaliation from offenders, in another word, they are scared of being assaulted no matter working in prison or on the street. Therefore, according from my observation, the wave of staff shortage was repeatedly already damaging the system and all the officers who showed up in this video resigned from this unfair judgment from those ignorance i mentioned above.

They need to lock prisoners up in solitary confinement. I know there are a lot of people that are against solitary confinement but I'm all for it for certain prisoners that have been convicted of horrific crimes like pedophillia, rape and certain murders. Those kind of people deserve to suffer horrifically. The idea of rehabilitation is ridiculous. Prisons should be about punishment. If I was a prison warden I would make sure I went around to these prisoners cells and remind them about all of the great things they're missing out on by sitting in there. I would tease them that they would get out in a month so they could get their hopes built up only to come crashing down when the day came and I told him that I was just kidding and he would never get out of solitary confinement. To look at that person and see the devastation on their face would give me so much joy I wouldn't be able to keep from laughing in their face. I would look forward to going to work just so I could see them suffer like they deserve.
