I think that as well. Schmidt's character is just brilliant and he plays it so well. He is hilarious! He said he got lucky to get the part of Schmidt...He did get lucky, but the show got lucky finding him for the part. I might have to watch New Girl all over again now I've finished watching it on Netflix.

@@NotAlwaysBilly One of my favourite scenes was the very last episode when Nick said "I love you" to Schmidt and everyone cheered. So cool...in a kinda friendly way, obviously lol, not a romantic way!

The crazy thing about New Girl is that all the characters worked. Obviously, Schmidt was amazing, but you can’t forget about Nick, Winston, Jess or Cici. You know. Everyone else. They had one of the best dynamics I’ve ever seen in a modern tv show.

What he says at the end just makes so much sense cause Schmidt is SO well done and SO well acted, that my suspicion while watching the show is that Max Greenfield isn't acting; he's just being himself.

Seriously, I always had his idea in my head that half the reason the show was so great was Max was Schmidt and Jake was Nick and they were literally just being exaggerated versions of themselves.

New girl is the “Friends” of my generation. It’s utterly perfect in every way. Even a little bit older coworker that I thought would not be the demographic absolutely loves this show. It’s the characters and how good the writing is for those characters.

Idk if u guys remember this, and sorry if I spoil anything, but if any other character ever was cheating on 2 really well written female characters for multiple episodes, there is no way in hell that u would sympathize with him when it all comes crashing down. And yet. Somehow, the way this character is portrayed, you just can’t be mad. Like idk about u, but to me that’s so impressive.

Agreed. Especially watching it the second time through and reflecting on his personality and flaws leading up to that, and also all of the repair that developed after, I just can't see it working for anyone else! Agh, love it.

@@matthewrandell5055 I was definitely bitter for a while with Schmidt (/Elizabeth Meriwether, lol), but as a comparison, I have always remained pretty pissed about Ross in Friends with his stupid behavior. The context around that situation was even worse and it felt more gross and convoluted and I just plain lost respect for Ross as a man, and never really found it again. In Schmidt's case, he was still an absolute inconsiderate coward about his situation, but the difference in my opinion is that he agreed it was an idiot move and acknowledged it was wrong, eventually accepted it was all his own fault, and grew over time. That's the other thing, too; if there hadn't been enough distance in time and in their own individual relational pursuits, I would have been disappointed with Cece's character for just settling. Their ultimate pathway to getting back together was by being actual good friends, and knowing themselves WAY better than before all the chaos. Honestly one of my favorite characters ever . He makes you cringe he makes you laugh and you just can’t for the life of you help but love him . Such a fun loving character with how neurotic he is and how detailed he is. Such a unique and special character.

Even if the writing was phenomenal, he made this character. He made Schmidt. By the second season he grew the part so amazing. He made Schmidt one of the most memorable characters from a sitcom I’ve ever seen.

Before I started binge-watching 7 seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Hulu, and 7 seasons of New Girl on Netflix right after, the only New Girl episode that I watched was Naked because my mom showed me on fox.com. And when I didn't have access to any New Girl episodes on Hulu, and I couldn't watch the second part of the October 11, 2016 crossover between both programs, I felt just like Max Greenfield's character in Naked. "I'm the only one who hasn't seen it!" 😆 January 1, 2021, 9:33pm

How lucky for Max Greenfield! New Girl saved him from quitting acting, and 4 years later, he got to be in a Young Storytellers play with Stephanie Beatriz and Jason Mantzoukas about evil crayons, nearly a year before New Girl's 2-part crossover with Brooklyn Nine-Nine. No single, individual character was the show. Each character played off the other and it was an ensemble cast. If any one character carries the show, they would’ve easily attempted a spin-off.

Essentially every moment my house is in utter filth and I don’t have the time or patience to start a new series, or the ambience just is not where I need it to be to start Hunters, this show is on. So yeah, I sort of live in this weirdly large apartment for LA with these incredibly well written people, and hell yeah I’ve taken the character quiz and am a total Jess.BOOM! Wow, every word I write on this interview, I am finding more reasons I am ALONE. See you guys, going to..do stuff..not binge watching this show..AT ALL...just doing stuff..mind your business..bye.
