I went to New York during the 2023 New Years Parade. I was 23 years old and a corporate banker, after a week of being in New York I came back home to Austin and started a RU-vid channel. I quit my job 6 months later at 500 subscribers and have been creating content for a year now. New York completely changed my perspective on life

That's quite the experience and really awesome to hear! I've also been looking at things a lot differently since I came back from NYC, didn't expect it to have as much of an effect on me as it did, definitely changes your sense of possibility and potential. I'm curious, how did you get the courage to quit your job at 500 subs?

Really enjoyed the video man. As a person who grew up in the Bronx, I understood and felt everything you presented. NYC just burns you out sometimes, but I think I'm in too deep ha ha. I resonated with a lot in this video, love from NYC!

Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the love from NYC, very keen to visit the city again after having experienced it so briefly. Really glad it resonated, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I moved to nyc from the Midwest and the difference in my daily mentality in those 2 places is crazy. In NYC, you literally do have to adapt or die… and you just become so resilient to whatever there is. But you also learn to tune out all the craziness around you bc that’s the only way to survive. I love it but also the constant anxiety is a bit much

I hear you, I definitely got the same feeling when I was there for a while. First few days were very overwhelming but then I sort of got used to only focusing on certain things at a time, definitely helped

As someone who lived in New York City from age 22 to 44, which is a total total of 22 years, I can confirm that New York City absolutely takes you to another level. However, being in New York City does not itself guarantee that you will be an overwhelming success in life. It simply adjusts your thermostat of success up about 10 degrees from where everyone else is at. At the same time, it also puts a limit on your success because of the amount of effort and time it takes simply to sustain yourself in the city. In New York City, it’s possible to make more money as a young person than anywhere else but it also makes it very difficult to take risks as you get into your 30s and 40s because the amount of money it takes to simply stay there.

"It simply adjusts your thermostat of success up about 10 degrees" That's such a good way of putting it, this was a really interesting point and perspective, I didn't even think about how the city could be experienced differently as you enter different age groups along the way. Thanks a lot for sharing! Definitely writing this down for myself as well

I really enjoyed this video! Great editing and good communication about an interesting topic. I've lived in a pretty small town in America most of my life, so this question of how does a big city affect us mentally has fascinated me. One aspect I've noticed is that in a big city you're exposed to so many more ideas, jobs, and ways of life than you could see elsewhere that it forces you to think bigger. I think New York likely has that effect on steroids.

Ah man I really appreciate the kind feedback! And yes I definitely agree with you, a much higher "surface area of opportunity" in a place like NYC - it definitely broadened my own perspectives as well which motivated me to end up making this vid. Do you think you'd ever try living in a big city?

theres more to nyc than manhattan. the vibe in queens or brooklyn is vastly different.

Fair point! A lot of us just default to Manhattan when talking about New York (myself included) - I'll definitely make it more of a point to check out more of the other boroughs next time I'm there.

@@arteriYTalso no one calls it nyc out loud. it’s new york. new york city. manhattan, “the city”, brooklyn, queens, the bronx staten island.

Native New Yorker myself, this video is great. Very good info and all rings true in my experience. Its risky but has high upside potential, to put it in finance terms haha

I was really wondering if it would resonate with someone who has spent much more time there than I have, really cool to hear you say that it rang true!

Still asking myself this, I think it could be fun for a few years but not for a lifetime, if that makes sense
