Not only that, but the fact that Merc was a 5th place team. All the haters complain about Lewis only winning bc of a car, but forget Lewis is a huge reason why his car was so good.
Modern fans thought the car just become faster by engineer only.. and they shout the loudest making the most noise in F1 community today.. acting like they running a F1 team.. 🤷🏻
@@iiFuture yeah especially when the Mercedes car had over a second per lap advantage due to how perfectly they nailed the v6 hybrid engine. Hamilton knew they were going to be strong
@@hudsonm360In his first year at Mercedes, the team was more than 200 points off Red Bull and Hamilton himself only had half the points of Vettel's. It was impossible for him to know that he will be successfull at Mercedes when he signed. Lewis took a gamble and he hit the jackpot.
A fact if you don't know Niki told Micheal to join Ferrari when he was deciding to join McLaren and then he became 7 time world champion. So today we have both the 7 time world champion just because of him
@@Jjoseph36 as funny as it would be for that to be the reason, him and hunt became great friends by the time Michael made the move before his death in 93
I remember people bashing lewis stating that just like shumy , lewis days are numbered. And now they say that he won just because of the car, they forget the balls that this dude has to leave second best team at that time to join a midfield team and help making that car to win Wc. He gave it all and deserved it more than anybody. I just hope that he gets there again and beat RB
@@victor9 Last race was Hamilton's, but the season still belonged to Verstappen. In Bahrain the rules were changed mid race to benefit Lewis. And don't forget Hungarian Bottas Bowling.
@@mayureshbhattu7325 rules werent changed in the mid race, drivers were told in the race briefing that they couldn't leave track during an overtake or else track limits would apply (which was confirmed by some drivers during post race presentation). Which was leaving a gray area and it would be easy if they just kept as a yes or no situation. So yeah please have proper knowledge before commenting about a topic.
@@aleksihanninen5929 just like when Seb used to be at RB. They’ve always had a crybaby known as Horner and Max is now here who cries on the radio way too much.
Absolute legend of a human being! So much passion and love for racing and the competition of it. Rest in peace Niki! Thank you for being such an amazing person!
Lauda is an absolute titan. He lived and breathed the sport. Undoubtedly one of the most consequential figures in the history of F1 and right there with Senna, Schumacher and Stewart. He is sadly missed.
It always amazes me how he’s behind 2 of the biggest driver moves in F1. First with how he convinced Schumacher to join a struggling Ferrari when Niki was their advisor who went on to win 7🏆 and then convinced Lewis Hamilton to join a struggling Mercedes who also went on to 7🏆 . Greatness sees greatness and Niki saw greatness in them.
Well this happens alot in football. I don't watch other sports so I can't say about other sports. As far as Motorsports go I've never heard about this happening and ultimately being really successful
@@jayfbee not really the point. I was responding to the original “up and coming” comment. LH was already established as a WDC and for amazing performances in the uncompetitive McLaren,
People don’t realize that Lewis helped a 5th place constructors team go to the very top for 8 consecutive years for the constructors and he became the first WC in Mercedes, became a 7x WC, and has broken records that no one right now, can touch. He helped developed a car and made a bullet train of a W11 and he uses all the hate towards him to still race and be competitive in the new era. But people now still say that it’s all about the car…
I'm pretty sure the designers, researchers and engineers who came up with the most dominant power unit in the sports history are the people deserving the credit for Mercedes success. Lewis was just lucky that Niki approached him and convinced him to leave McLaren.
Mercedes was working on a V6TH before 2010 and were the ones who lobbied the FIA to set it as the new engine regs. The first few years they just had the engine turned down and would turn it up incrementally as other teams caught up (confirmed by Lowe). The mercedes PU was extremely dominant up until around 17-18 when ferrari was using a few tricks before that disappeared and Mercedes was still far in the clear
No, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg helped get Mercedes from 5th to 1st. Lewis joined when the hard work was done. All he had to do was drive fast and keep doing that. Michael and Nico built the team, developed the car and supplied more of the groundwork than anyone else who has ever driven for the team. Lewis just had to win, then the Domino effect ensured he could keep winning.
@@arkangelgaming35 Sure yeah, it's so funny how Mercedes actually wanted Lewis cus they knew his quality and driving skills, plus Hamilton himself was the perfect man to test a car by pushing it to the limits. Improvements between 2013 and 2014 weren't all about engine regulations, Mercedes literally changed team dynamics because of Hamilton.
@@arkangelgaming35 yeah because the 2013 car was so great. Only one win with Lewis in Hungary and where was Nico in that race? Nowhere. You can't argue the Schumacher theory from 2012 and 2014's car because it used a totally different design concept. If it was still a V8 Type chassis which was lighter etc then you would be right. But in this case I'll only give you half points because Rosberg was still there, But any further development would be down to Lewis and Rosberg/Bottas
Just to know how much niki did for the sport of f1 not only just of his legacy but he was all in for the sport he dedicated his life till the end for f1 rest in peace
He referenced constructors. Juan Fangio never won a constructors title with Mercedes. It literally didn’t exist yet. Note he said 5th further proving they were talking about constructors. This conversation was referencing their 2012 initial talks. If they were talking drivers, he would have said p4. Nico was p9 but already on the team. When he said “you” he meant win Mercedes a world title. The idea was if the team is going from P5 to champion, pretty good chance he can take a drivers title too.
" i will do everything i can do to give you a competitive car" and you did it by giving to Lewis one of the best F1 car in history, the car that helped him to get 6 world championship, RIP Legend
What an absolute legend, still hurts so much not seeing that red cap wandering around the paddock 🥰 Hope your having fun up there niki we miss you so much 🤗
He engineered and manifested some pretty great legends. The sport will never forget him, still doesn’t feel like he is truly gone. Probably because it feels like he is practically edged into history of all the grand prixs existence.
It’s crazy how many people will praise Lauda but also despise Hamilton and think he is a terrible driver. In doing so they are literally insulting Lauda’s ability to spot talent.
"I can do everything to get you a competitive car"! I can't believe he had to say that! He and engineers literally provided him a rocketship for 8 years straight!
R.i.p Niki so thankful for him and for him coaxing Lewis to mercedes he could see that Lewis was the goat from the start. I've been a Lewis Hamilton fan from day one so I love these videos 😊❤💜
Yes WTF, also there is a lot of BS in this story, they told Lewis they where the only team that were developing a car with the new regulations with years of head start, that's why Lewis didn't even doubt it to go to Merc
@@Ale-nv2boI found out that Fangio's Mercedes team was actually Argentinian. So Hamilton is the first champion for a Mercedes "Werksteam" under German flag. It's no secret that Mercedes started early to develope the hybrid, but how could Hamilton know how it works out in advance? He still had to believe in Niki and the team.
@@ashishpuskur1959 Santa Madonna! unfortunately for Ferrari yes. These years were our close direct chance to win a title. I always believe that if Lewis was driving that Ferrari we would be world champions both years
I’d like to say that Graham Bensinger is a fantastic interviewer and his interviews of anyone involved in Mercedes around that time are a great resource. He might not be an F1 expert (I don’t know the guy) but he knows the right questions to ask a sportsman, and he knows how to listen.
@@theportugueselegendthe fact Niki worked so hard to get Hamilton into Mercedes tells you everything you need to know.... begs the question why he didn't ask Alonso instead
From what I heard/read Mercedes has been working on hybrid engine since 2007, a whole 5+ years before the regulation change. I think there is something shady going on behind the scenes
The real answer was: we have been working on the hybrid engine for years and we think that we have such an advantage that we will dominate for years. Easy peasy.
And the rest is history! It was always great seeing him around the track in Melbourne. I was also lucky enough to have him sign a black and white photo I had of him racing in a car. RIP LEGEND
happy bday legend. your boy will be driving for your old team ferrari. what would happen if he would win in a ferrari and become only the second driver to do so for both mclaren and ferrari like yourself?
As someone born in 2000 and over the years been watching it more, I can say it’s a true blessing to have even lived in the same lifetime as Niki Lauda, what a wonderful man and true inspiration for all young drivers
I lived in Frankfurt in Germany 🇩🇪. Before moving to Russian Federation in 2016. Sometimes you meet some dutch who so good people & Sometimes you meet some of them which i wish they were never been born. Thank you Mr Nikki Lauda. For been there for black people.
Lauda was the main reason Mercedes was so successfull. He was genius and a symbol. He made the best team, chose the best drivers and created the most dominant team in F1 for many years. After his death, Mercedes soon became just another team in the grid.
I feel the need to remind you that Mclaren was racing with Mercedes engines at the time, moving to Mercedes wouldn't have given Hamilton a better engine.
@@h0rus96 yes agree but when did they start winning which is the point I’m making, when hybrid tech was applied. Everything that Mercedes’ have won since 2013 is all within the hybrid era. And I’m not saying it’s not interesting engineering I just don’t think it has done any favours for the sport. There is no point to watch F1 to see which is the best driver these days it’s all about the cars. The driver influence is maybe 20% versus car and team 80%. I’m not really a Moto GP fan but its the opposite with 80% rider and 20% bike. If you want to see who is the best driver then hold a go kart race with standardised karts and get the drivers to race on a load of different tracks and see who comes out top overall. Simples. I mean in F1 these days the big teams have around 20 people just to decide tyre strategy, it’s a joke. The FIA keep applying more rules in an attempt make it more exciting and it just gets worse year on year. They are even trying to make it energy efficient 😂. I mean what should be the one last place we can celebrate the combustion engine is unfortunately every year getting more and more filled with nonsense. This should be the one place you can forever celebrate a V10 or V12 screaming around a track and year on year the cars should be getting faster not slower. The cars now can barely beat the pre-hybrid era ones. And that’s the point they should be 10 seconds a lap quicker than those cars from 15+ years ago, even Le Mans cars can embarrass F1 these days. There should not even be a challenge to F1 being the fastest and it should be by a long way. If you want electric then there is a separate race for that, it’s just not the same feeling to watch you modern cars. The excitement has been so watered down by rules. Hopefully it’s not RIP F1 please someone sort it out.
@@Pain4yourmind FOM and Liberty will dump the franchise in the next 10 years with these new circus regs theyve put in. In all honesty, F1 imploding like it almost did in 08 would be a nice house cleaning exercise
This man is absolutely legendary. His missing presence from the track still leaves such a void. Like Dietrich from RBR off the track. Both absolute legends. ❤
@@byanymeansnecessary9329 I thought that too. But apparently Schumacher put them on track. Lewis was said to be more of a ‘driver’ than a ‘car technician.’ As opposed to Rosberg who was more a ‘car technician.’
Watching real men brave men like him makes you realize how lazy you've been through out your life not even trying gassing out before even an attempt to do something special in your life I really have a great deal of respect for men like him
Wrong! Lewis did win 6 WDC in a Mercedes. But clearly it was not the same Mercedes Niki was referring to. He won them with the Mercedes that clearly nailed the turbo hybrid regulations. That’s not a knock on team or driver its just the objective truth.
I remember the Top Gear episode where Jeremy Clarkson critisized Hamilton's move to Mercedes comparing it to leaving Man Utd & moving to something like Watford!!! But he was convinced it was the right thing to do!!!🙏
More like what would happen if our old team boss Ross Brawn had inside information for the new regulations and we are far beyond what these guys can be and we’re not gonna power McLaren anyways lmao
What? Fia had been in talks about switching to v6 hybrids since 2005 every team was present at the meetings and it was very clear that steps were being taken to move to v6. Mercedes already being a world leader in hybrid engines due to their road cars had a huge advantage with the mgu-h….literally nothing was stopping the other teams from doing the same, they got caught with their pants down come 2014
It was the cleverest move. Hamilton knew Mercedes had developed the new engine format with the split turbine long time ago and had therefore had a huge head start designing the cars aero around that.
