That’s not true, the Wii Remote doesn’t use the IR pointer for Wii Sports aside from helping you navigate the menus. I’ve gotten strikes while turned around on the staircase

Wii sports uses the accelerometer in the wii mote. It doesn't use the IR sensor except for navigating menus.

I grew up playing the Tennis mode, and it gets VERY ferocious. I think a lot of these Tennis games are. I’m swinging my arm so hard and moving around so much something around me might break, or me first lol.

In Switch Sports your stance and how you move the joy cons actually matter now. If you try to play sitting down it tells you to stand up, and how you how the controller will mess you in the game if you’re doing it wrong 😂 so you actually have to play it like this it’s way better
