Having met people who used to organize tours of North Korea (honestly, going there isn’t difficult if you’re not, let’s say from a country actively trying to destroy them (the US). Their mountain ranges (what this particular tour covered) are breathtaking. And you can hike down off these mountains and meet the villagers. And they’re very generous with what they have (a Korean trait across national boundaries). Is it great? Obviously not. But the North Koreans know that too. Ask any Russian or anyone from one of the USSR’s satellite countries. They knew what they were missing in terms of pop culture, they just couldn’t get it reliably or safely.

22:20: I remember back in 2011-2013 when DPRK started to increase their nuclear development and testing, there was in fact, a whole Internet movement to push the DPRK offline in response to increases in attacks. I remember seeing posts on various web forums about people researching how DPRK received Internet access from China as well as one Satellite provider. I distinctly remember DPRK holding a 1024 IP block of addresses, which is probably the same one you showcased in this video. Back then, people involved in those forum posts were spending weeks launching DoS attacks at targets they felt were part of the DPRK in order to send some sort of message, and would cheer each other on whenever they'd have some success. As to whether the DoS attack was successful or not escapes me, but the DPRK has definitely been foiled a few times already with their Internet infrastructure. Even so, unless they've really beefed up infrastructure somehow since then, it's probably bound to happen again. The botnets these days are getting to be so large that DoS Protection services still get put to the test at times, and automated exploit discovery is definitely not slowing down...
