i know that this is a "how NOT to make an animatic" but i think you gave me a tip for something to actually do next time i'm planning one. make the thumbnail sketches so tiny that you physically can't add any detail so you don't take super long only on the thumbnails. it's genius, it's brilliant, i wish i had thought of that before

thank you for the “raw” and “flawed” content, it’s what people appreciate more over a so called “aesthetically pleasing and productive” process, because it’s true, and it’s relatable (pls that reference part was me, I was trying to draw xie lian with the umbrella and DEAR GOD I COULD NOT FIND ONE) ….so I pulled out my traditional chinese umbrella I’ve left collecting dust in my closet for years and became a model in front of my mirror, pen in hand and all.

As an animation student, all of this relates to me. From how long to plan for an animatic (that isn't a complete animation yet), to looking references at google and hope that the search engine can find what I'm looking for is just... *y e s* note to self (and probably people who relates to this): Remember to plan and not just think everything in your head because not planning results you to wonder on how to start you animation even though you can see it in your head (if that makes sense in anyway lol).

The writing spoke to me very much. At the beginning of the year my handwriting is beautiful, by the end it’s just scribbles in my notebook.

Oh man the initial planning draft, even the handwriting hits close to home. All hail chaotic visual artists, this is why we dont go into poetry or writing.

The Drawing/ Depression montage spoke to my soul so deeply that I rewound it several times while hysterically laughing and crying

Your animatic is still the best amv I've yet seen for tgcf. I can tell it's rough just line art wise but the emotion that it conveys is undeniable. And the way the frames move, especially during that ghost turned savage scene, gave me all the feels. I could tell so much heart went into this project, thank you so much for spending all that time to give us such a beautiful video. I'm now addicted to that song. :)

this was probably not your intention but this really inspired me to like,,, try and make my own animatic? it's set my expectations pretty realistically and i dont feel as much pressure to finish one. you broke down the process really well and it does feel like a much less scary process (somehow)

I once submitted a 90-something frame animatic in the span of a week to a class for a two-minute animation which I never actually finished by semester’s end. (Photoshop’s animation feature is my personal hell, and the encoder can eat my shoe.) That said, for better or worse, apparently they still show the animatic as an example for the class, so that’s worth at least some of the hell I went through to make it.

tbh this made me feel so much better about my own process - NOT because mine is ANY better! But because I recognise this so much, except I often get stuck on just listening to the songs and making a storyboard mentally - and then when I wanna write it out I get it all jumbled... But on the off-chance that I actually do manage to make a storyboard, it literally looks like you made it based on the one you showed here lol. I thought that was a sign that I wasn't doing good enough or wasn't motivated enough if I "couldn't even make the storyboard look good" or "professional" but seeing that this is also your starting point, and then how amazing your final product is makes me feel encouraged!

I want to express my appreciation and... uh... respect and... commiseration ... about the woes of... animation, editing... all that sort of shit...
