This is masterful!!! Less is more! The drum is the heartbeat. You don’t want your heart over-playing. It just needs to BEAT. The captions are fucking funny too. Now whenever I hear this song i will be singing “Polio ... Poor Leo . . . “
The thing is: even though you don't play that many fills and keep it rather basic, the fills that you DO play are always spot on. From placing to tightness and tastiness, just incredible. I'd prefer you at any gig over 90% of other RU-vid drummers.
Wonderful! How about a series of them? In essence, the message should just apply to all songs of this ilk/style, but what the heck, I love the text pop ups ;)
This is just fantastic, im covering this song with my band, and thats EXACTLY how EVERY drummer feels about this song. That "poor Leo" thing and the "polio" happend to me tha exact same way! Awesome! Just awesome! xD
This song is soooo much simpler than most people play it. The isolated drum track from the original recording is even simpler than this version in that the kick is on 1 and 3 only, instead of every quarter note. When I play this song live I play it exactly like this; quarter notes on the kick (to keep driving the song forward), the occasional sizzle on the hats and minimal fills.
This is perfect! As a newer drummer myself just getting into playing along with cover tunes, this is an amazing lesson how to solid player with out over playing
Totally Love this Dude, great drumming, and a very funny video. Too many drummers absolutely ruin songs by over playing them. Pop songs don't need endless showy fills, just a tight groove in the pocket. Less in always more! Well done brother.x
Hands down the best online drum lesson you can get. You should really do a series of this! And keep on going man, it is true that these things go unnoticed most of the time here in Hungary but those who follow your work greatly appreciate it nonetheless.
The worst thing a drummer can do isn't to fall out of tempo....or get lost after a fill....or be too loud....or fart (!)....NO....it's to overplay. This is a masterclass!!! 🙂
I love everything about this video. Your style, movement, kit, the very fitting play style and of course the messages! :) I will use this as a big inspiration for my performance. Keep up the work mate!
OMG this is so great! I am a new drummer, been playing for about a year and a half so you know what phase I am in haha, and this is soooo what I needed to see before covering this song. Super! Thanks!
I literally couldn't stop laughing through the whole video and still at the same time I was so impressed that this is pure talent and you played it perfecly on point!!! The world needs you to make a lot of other videos like this!
1000th like, and I feel like you've earned it. Really well done, as a hobbyist drummer those thoughts really resonated. Wish you would do this alot more, for more simpler songs such as these. Or even complex ones! You're talented at this, really loved it. :)
Haha you really struggle to hold back, funny video and perfectly played. As a drummer myself I have the same approach and I get bored if the drummer overplays or has endless drum solos, especially if it does not have a context to the song. Thanks for this video, gives us pocket players who are not so good at polyrhythms and crazy 64nd fills but just want the song to groove hope. You have got yourself a new subscriber :-) (Note to self: Get white glasses)
This is a something a lot of drummers need to learn, including myself, when I was still a stupid kid. The only negative thing I can think of is that I've always thought bobblehead drumming was pointless and annoying, but all in all, good lesson.
Will use this for practice. Im mainly a percussion player learning the also drumset. Gotta work on my fills especially and returning to the groove in time. Awesome video!
Btw i told you this one year ago. And Im back to the video. Gonna learn to play it like you did and apply with it to a conservatorium. Need to play percussion too since drums is only my 2nd instrument, but they need it for applying
Equally funny and instructional, you probably anticipated the thoughts of the 80% of the musicians watching the video. Haha! Congrats Abel, keep the good work.
Great feel, nice groove, excellent! I was listening to the recoding however, I don't think he plays quarters on the bass drum. Either way, still awesome :)
Hahaha this cracked me up!!! All that prep for a fill then.... NOTHING! HAHA Had this been any other drum cover it would've been filled with fills since the start of the 16 beat on the hi hats during intro 😅😅😅
Hey hey hey Ba de ya, say that you remember Ba de ya, dancing in September Ba de ya, never was a cloudy day Ba duda, ba duda, ba duda, badu Ba duda, badu, ba duda, badu ...is all I'm gonna say
