Would you recommend the pump for milking just 2 ND does?

Yes! I used it when I was only milking one goat! Keeps the milk cleaner!

We are transitioning to once a day milking, we have 5 milking and we will have more babies this summer from some very high producing goats. Milking once a day will free up some fun summer nights!

When i went down from milking twice a day to once...the milk production cut in half! Just freshened my 4 nigerian dwarves again and planning to just start out with once a day milking, but hoping for a lot of milk!

Do you have any videos about the cows on your farm? Born there? Meat or milk etc?

I haven’t done really a video just on the cows! We should do that! They are beef cows. We are basically just a cow/calf farm. Breed cows and sell calves. We started with 7 pair of cow/heifers!

I’m new to goats, I started off with 3 boers for my new homestead, they gonna help me keep the blackberry and poison oak in check, and make me some home raised meat in the future. I am very interested in a milk goat or 2, and as I’m just one guy on my place, time is an issue for me as well. I’m trying to find out if having a milk goat is all or nothing, or can I share milk with the baby goat? Can I take milk for me as needed and the babies get the rest, or would I be creating even more work than just milking goats everyday cause now I gotta bottle,feed the babies too? You kinda mentioned the exact subject very briefly, but I’m not sure if I understood correctly.

Really it would have been nice to see by how much production you lost by milking once a day. We only started weighing our milk because jars are not a good comparison. but weight is. By milking twice a day we went from less than a quart a day on two unfreshened Nubians to a full quart after a few weeks. The kids were just started to get weaned about a month before we started milking and now we get a half gallon every other day of our two does. That is 1 quart a day per goat. But if you ever run a true comparison I would be interested in your results. That means they aren't put in with the kids because they will drink Momma dry given half a chance which cuts milk production in half

What kind of pig is that?
@CatalpaCreekFarm

Do you have to wean the babies before they go to new homes? Usually when they are old enough to go they are eating hay, grain and drinking water by then. It is crazy here weaning....they jump out of pens scream for each other for days.
@cjfunnyfarm
@cjfunnyfarm 4 года назад
It's best for them to have less stress when going to a new farm. If they have already been separated from mom and eating grass/hay/grain then it's easier on them. Ours did a lot of screaming, but they settle down after a few days! Fence weaning was a lot easier than weaning across the pasture. I had several get out last year looking for mom!

Do you think the butter fat content is different among the ladies? And, do you think it is different with one milking per day versus two per day.
@cjfunnyfarm
@cjfunnyfarm 4 года назад
I definitely think butter fat content is higher in some girls, but I don't think the milking once or twice a day makes a difference.

How old do you leave babies on before you start milk sharing?
@cjfunnyfarm
@cjfunnyfarm 4 года назад
Two weeks at the earliest. If the babies are smaller or had a hard start we leave them in a little longer! At 2 weeks momma goats tend to be ready for a break!

This is PorkChop's forever home. He is our breeding pig so he will not be sent to the processor. We are hoping to save some piglets from each of Petunia's litter for meat!

Thank you Claire for doing videos like this one! During the "normal" times of the world it is really hard to be able to get two milkings a day! I thought I'd ask? But do you ever get zapped by the wire to the pig's pen? I can see in the videos you step over it? And we are extremely tired of this rain too!
@cjfunnyfarm

I have yet to be zapped by the fence, but I have a feeling Tunie is going to push me into it one of these days :)
