I am guilty of rinsing my filter and components inside with tap water. I had a huge ammonia spike in October. the result was a loss of 3 fish. never will I ever do that again. You'll learn from your mistakes. I've only had my tank and been in the hobby since May. I took the advice from Eaven and Ben O. Then I used common sense of what I messed up on. Works beautiful now everytime.

I clean my fx6 filters once a year; just did one yesterday, it was almost clean(I have pre-filters) Other smaller filters I do maybe every 3 months(Also have pre-filters on those).

great vid I have been using the 350t for the past few months I think its a good idea to have the heater in the filter I have been cleaning mine once a week but reading the comments and seeing this vid I will extend the cleaning a bit longer this is the first time I have used an external filter so I am still learning about what is best

That new ehiem is great. My friends got it. I have two monster tanks. Each have an fx6 cannister and now a small back up in an ehiem 2217. I clean them every 4 to 6 months. I know it’s overkill but it’s just a back up just in case one of my cannisters blows up lol.

That's a top notch vid! I'd like to see a vid on how long it takes before the benificial bacteria dies. How long it should take to clean a filter and how long is too long to do the maintenance or risk losing the BB.

Your sponges are the first mechanical filtration and your poly fill goes ontop of the sponges not in the top trap if it’s in the top tray it concentrates the all the fine crap in your media and clogs it

I have a new eheim filter on my tank and when I'm feeding all the food gets moved around so fast its hard for the fish to eat. Can I turn off the filter (unplug) during feeding....or should I use the flow nozzles to stop flow of water during feeding?

The 1 thing that separates the Ehiem from Fluval is how Quite the Ehiem filters are .

I have had a Fluval 404 for a number of years and it does a good job. I agree that ehiem is much quieter and much, much easier to remove the motor head and clean the impeller. More expensive than Fluval, more rugged disconnect for hoses and motor. The hose system on the Fluval is more flexible. Both are very good.

+Inquisitive Fish Guy get tank that would take half of the stand and do it DIY style... Leave other other half for a large ATO water container... U could go bigger if u wanted to have a jail section for a problem fish from the display... I don't know the dimensions of the 220's stand

+Inquisitive Fish Guy Main determining factor will be how much water your sumo needs to hold during power outage. Use the formula L x W x H / 232... It will give u the exact gallons your sump would need to hold.. H = measurement from the top of your tank to the bottom of your overflow... Usually 1-3 inches depending on how you set it up.. Or the height of your return nozzle because back siphoning will have to be calculated if it's lower than your overflow... Hope that helps

Tap water won't kill ALL of your bacteria, but probably SOME of it. It depends on how much chlorine your tap water has. If it's less than 1 ppm of chlorine you're probably fine, just don't do it again.

It's a good video thank you for posting. Next time please omit the music because it is terrible. You do not need it competing with your voice. I noticed you rinse in aquarium water and that is a very smart idea. Does the poly fill clog the flow? That would be my only concern. Thank you for posting.
