OG is a best on defense and a 15-20 ppg probably one of the best 3 and D in the league, the knicks are in a win now mentality and OG could be de difference for that team. On the other hand raptors are in a rebuild trying to get young talent that could develop to star, IQ Scottie and heck Maybe RJ if he is motivated could be a good big 3 In my opinion both team got what the wanted i am pretty sure it's a win win
If the Knicks get the right matchups they can make a run to the ECF I cant see them beating Boston but they can beat the bucks and sixers and anyone else
Biggest X factor here might be Randle with his inconsistent performances fluctuating from being the worst player in the entire league to All NBA calibre. Not counting on him to finally have good playoffs, but i guess anything is possible...
Watching your analysis and slow play, I swear OG is underrated. Extremely very high IQ defender. Now I see why his name is tossed around by GMs, they know this boy is legit.
RJ Barrett Scored 38 Points For The Toronto Raptors The Other Day Which Means Either That The NY Knicks Made Their Worst Trade In The History Of The NBA By Also Including IQ, Or The Best Trade Because OG Anunoby Has Transformed The NY Winning Attitude Since His Arrival (4-0) In The New Year. Happy New Year’s Day New York!
og is a perfect fit with this team hes a good catch and shoot 3 point shooter especially on corner 3s and is one of the best point of attack defenders in the league he can guard positions 2 through 4 and the knicks can put him on giannis and embiid and don’t have to send a ton of extra help
Knicks fan here, this is definitely a win-win trade. og has been a perfect fit with us in the starting lineup so far with his defense, off-ball cutting, and 3p spacing, enabling randle and brunson to operate more often to their biggest strengths. IQ and rj are balling out in toronto with the former getting the starting role he desired (he'll likely get a bigger payday there too). Most importantly, we did not have to give up a single first rounder (although we did give up probably the most valuable second rounder here). Front office definitely thought ahead with this trade, and i have faith they'll continue making the right moves to bolster this roster while brunson (and perhaps randle, depending on how much faith the front office has in him as a championship piece after this season) is at his peak.
In just 4 games for both the Raptors and the Knicks, I honestly think it's a perfect trade for both teams. The Raptors need more offense, whereas the Knicks need more defense. With the addition of RJ and IQ, the Raptors offense has ranked top 10 since the trade.
I felt like when the trade first started and when people were saying the Knicks got fleeced that was an easy way of saying “ I am not a fan of nba basketball” because if you know ball yk OG is the type of player that can make an aright team an instant contender that type of long, defender, overall offensive threat role player that takes around 7-15 shots a game will forever be valueable in todays game especially at the height OG is at
@@goat369 Bill Walton also falls into this bin of bloviating “characters,” IMO, but at least the man played and played at a very high level. I can tolerate and even like Walton. Smith is just garbage, though.
As a raptors fan I hope OG finally get the respect he deserves.. cause god knows media always tryna de-value all the extra work we gotta put in as a Canadian franchise.. we gotta take these low draft picks and turn then into franchise altering pieces.. your welcome New York
@@robertwest6750 I’d have to agree with you on that. You know it’s a good trade, when both sides miss the players that been sent out. A win/win for both teams.
Finally!!! Someone who gets it! The trade for OG was about addition by subtraction. On paper, it looked like the Knicks were sacrificing scoring. In actuality, they’ve made it much more difficult for teams to score on them! The effective result of this is that it allows them to push the ball on offense thus creating easier baskets. So what’s happening is they are allowing about 10 less points while creating easier opportunities for themselves to score. It’s actually quite remarkable how much they’ve been able to disrupt the play of opponent point guards. Do that and you disrupt offenses. Defense is something you can bring every night even if you’re having a bad offensive game. Please take note that in the last four games, Brunson and Randle have had one bad offensive game each. In the past, that may have resulted in 1, maybe 2 losses. With the defense improved, they’re able absorb such occasions easier. My only big concern now is that Brunson’s minutes need to be reduced before they burn him out! I’ve seen some signs of this happening. Their next move needs to address this.
OG got that Pippen determination to his defense... What a pleasure for Knicks fans. I think they can contend, and I hope that they will stay healthy - both physically and mentally.
As a Raps fan couldn't be happier for OG. Really hope one day he comes back to finish out his career but nice to see him used well and appreciated by Knicks fans
“Best he ever got” wdym?? You know what that award means right? He was voted to be best case scenario, the second best defensive player in the entire world. Or worst case scenario, the 10th best defensive player in the entire world.
Raptor fan here. Watched og all his career. Dude is a student of defense. He knows his opponents tendencies and uses his wingspan and speed to disrupt.
I mean, anytime you get a chance to alter your chemistry in a positive way, you have to do it. Thing is, when was the last time we had a win-win trade with two teams not involving a lot of draft capital where you can't judge it for years? Being a Raptors fan, we knew what you were getting in O.G. (& I think it's elevated the Knicks greatly and allows them to find that tall guard/shooter to really contend) Meanwhile, Quickley and Barrett are perfect fits in Toronto - Barrett gets to be the player he's meant to be (& Quickley has star power all over him) I think the Knicks don't even need to get that superstar - Randle & Brunson dominate the ball - O.G. guards the opposition's best player - find yourself the version of the Derrick White trade that the Celtics made (or go get your Ray Allen in Boston) A shooter will make life difficult for every team in the eastern conference.
We got donte divincenzo who's heavily underrated and sort of plays that derrick white role. He's been averaging 14 points as a starter off very good efficiency (top 10 in 3p% iirc) whilst also being a great defender
As a raps fan, Og is excellent pick for what he’s brought to the teams. Don’t cry if randle or brunson suck while taking ball all the time in their hand. Og gonna show up in playoffs when matter
This is where me not watching the whole league like crazy made me not very knowledgeable on OGs game but videos like this have proven to me why they did this move even tho it’s a painful one especially with IQ being traded. I just hope he’s resigned so we don’t look silly because he’s a much more important piece for us winning it all compared to a barrett or Randle, great video man just subbed.
Bro so many people shit on me because I said this was an amazing trade for both teams. This man will help us SO much + Robinson coming back late into the season? Holy shiet. Now the biggest thing to do is get one more superstar and we are good.
The knicks were a laughing stock after the 90s runs up until the past couple years due to piss poor team ownership. People seem to not know that they were one really bad call away from beating mjs bulls. No other franchise has come that close to beating the greatest team ever. They’re also tied with 2 other teams for 6th on most championships out of 30 teams. 2 doesn’t sound like much most teams don’t have anything because the lakers and Celtics have 17 each. Knicks have gotten the short end of the stick a lot and mainly due to being badly mismanaged but they have cleaned house, the owner stopped interfering with basketball operations, brought it great people and completely changed the culture. Players are taking notice and really want to play there now. They have the biggest bag to spend due to their massive fanbase and being in nyc. The future is looking very bright and some people are still laughing at them like this is all just an accident and nothings changed.
He just embodies what having active arms and hands means on defense. Such great usage of his length to disrupt passing lanes. Love to see it, it's defensive IQ and great instincts.
This move makes the knicks contenders to make the ECF and they still have all their picks to make a star trade. Wouldn't be surprised if the Knicks are full on title contenders next year with the most dominant defense next year with Mitchell Robinson and OG
I felt as indifferent About RJB as his Consistency on the court. He was good enough to give NYC some sort of hope when we had no one so to that alone I salute the dude. Hope he has a great career 🙏
The only part of the trade that hurt for the Knicks was Quickley because he has legit all-star potential. But I never saw it as a fleece, it was an even trade from the start. High IQ defender that can guard bigger forwards like Tatum, Giannis, and Butler but has lateral quickness to keep up with faster guards like Dame and Maxey. Knicks can match up with any of the top teams in the East especially if they were able to get Mitchell Robinson back somehow
We couldn't afford to keep Quickley. The intel was we wanted to extend him around 12-15million/yr but he wanted 20-25 million/yr, same as Brunson, as a bench point guard. Front office was like, fuccck it, moved him.
RJ Barrett was the first Knicks player to get a rookie extension since 1999 and they traded him a year later + another player that was to get a rookie extension. The trade makes sense from a basketball pov, but from a long term culture perspective it's not looking good.
as a C fan what i wanted (to join) and afraid of (facing against my team) from Toronto Raptors back then was him. just a cadual at basketball but as i do my own dumb analysis I as one could say he's a nice to have in any team
He is really good, 2 way player and high 3pt avg. But the big issue with him, is his durability. Let’s see how NYK deal with his injury woes as Raptors could not solve it
Both. Raptors desperately needed some young guards. The Knicks needed a big 3&D wing, who's doesn't demand the ball. Both teams got exactly what they needed.
According to rumors NY isn't done on the trade market....this makes them a sneaky Darkhorse team to win the eastern conference. will depend heavily on Randle playoff performance as well
i don't ever wanna hear that the raptors overvalue their assets ever again, you'd think OG was gonna win DPOY with the knicks even though this is the player he has been with the raptors the entire time
What’s the name of a strong tall athletic, shut down wing defender who will continue to develop his offensive skills, like OG is doing now? Kawai Leonard
OG also is impeccable fashion taste when in street clothes, especially when by game 65 he misses the rest of the season. Or comes to play in 1 or 2 playoff games if that.
It is so funny how they're calling OG a a superstar now 😂😭.. he's been on the raptors is whole career and barely mentioned Him... Mark my words The Knicks will file another lawsuit against Masai For Theft when it's all said we got two Starters that are under 25 to play with Scottie Barnes... FOR OG😅😅😂
RJ drops 39 and Quick is our PG for years to come. And Masai will strike gold with the 31 pick. NY got fleeced again! Remember the Bargnani trade? I believe I can fly lol
Good for IQ and good for rj (rj still one of the most inconsistent players in the league) but the Knicks r possible contenders so I don’t think Knicks fans gaf about the raptors😂
@@ballsballsballs3617 Maybe RJ just needed a little home cooking. I seem to remember the Blue Jays brought Vladdy’s grandma to town and Kwai’s mom for the same reason. Or was it Uncle Dennis?
This might sound very niche, but having three left hand dominant players as main scoring options could also be damaging NY's offense? Just curious what ya'll might think about this. I love lefties i'm a lefty myself, but their 3 main scoring options were all left handed. Now they got a two way player who's a righty in OJ
