We just returned from a visit to the archeological site ofJamestown, Virginia and amongst the artifacts displayed were Bartman jugs and clay pipes so like the ones mudlarkers find in Great Britain. I was very excited about that. More of our shared history.
What a disappointing day, where have all the marbles gone? And the lovely glass bottle stoppers? I wish we had a shoreline or a river with a dump eroding onto it like the ones Kit and Caboodles and The Northern Mudlarks find so many treasures on!
Well you would have to go to London to find rubbish from the last 2000 years or somewhere near the Boarders or Berwick ... We've not found many marbles at Limekilns but I know when Nicola White was there , she ventured into the deep mud ( that we avoid ) and found a couple of printed Ginger beer bottles there!
The area where you found the nurdles (there is a ridiculous amount of nurdles there) is where I found a bit of a very old small pipe stem, my first one. I also found half a stone marble and pottery etc. There was only a little bit of beach when we went though but that small area had a lot in it.
Yes there is always a tiny stretch of beach there even during high tide - the mudflats are only exposed during high tide and we found a 16th century clay pipe there :)
Very muddy there, and yes, a LOT of seaweed, so it can`t be easy to see anything? those small "plastic nudels" looked great on my screenI am a "thinker" so I am wondering, WHAT can we use tobacco for except smoke it?? It must have been "created" for a better reason/use??Light and love.
It really is very difficult to see anything in the grey mud - everything looks the same to be honest ;) Only weird shapes stick out and I am sure we missed half the finds!
