The Cuban Missle Crisis was a HUGE DEAL that, at least as far as my history classes go, never really spent a lot of time talking about. This, to me, is insane. It was one of the few times the ENTIRE world was hanging in the balance of just handful of right and wrong choices that could have lead to the end of us all. And none of my history teachers spent a lot of time talking about it. Thank you Vasili, thank you so much.

Why is this man Arkhipov not recognized by all nations and made an international hero?
@Tanknuggets217
@Tanknuggets217 Год назад
One of the reasons. The Americans didn’t want to glorify an enemy and right now Russia isn’t looking to good on the international level
@spartanonxy
@spartanonxy Год назад
That is honestly kind of a loaded question in the end. There is the international optics issue. But even more of a issue is generally despite what movies show soldiers who go against protocol or orders are not lauded as hero's. Even when their results are amazing or truly heroic they are generally swept under the rug. Top this with the fact that the people at the top tend to in situations like this be the ones praised even if they were not helping or actively making things worse and well the chances of him being well known were miniscule. This man is evidence that the greatest honors are worn on the soul and not the suit.

Because situations like this will keep happening if we don't. and the next time there might not be a Vasiliy there to keep a level head and stave off a global disaster. Actually a lot of the best people I ever knew were Russians. There are always some soldiers or generals in every army becoming absolutely psychotic and brutal because of the war or some previous happening(s). But in the end, it all gets blamed on the government of that country, and even worse, the people of this country. That's what happened in Namibia, and that's probably what happened in Butscha. And in the USA, Germans were discriminated against, forced to lay down their culture, and even killed, because some german officers committed war crimes in Belgium at the time. And when the USA entered the war, teh situation became even worse, and it didn't stop until the 50s or 60s. That's actually also the reason why so many German Americans migrated to Germany before or during ww2 to serve in the Waffen-SS. Hatred, especially on the ones who have the least fault for certain happenings, only makes things worse. And that's what is happening to some Russians in Germany right now.

There's a far more dramatic Soviet sub incident in the Pacific that's rarely discussed and not well understood. Sometime after the cold war the US found a sub on the sea floor. One they never new about. By counting intelligence analysis think there were 6 extra men on board. It's thought these men were kjb or some break away faction. Based on damage it's theorized the sub was taken over brought within 300 miles of the west coast and a launch was attempted. But the Soviet captain gave incorrect launch codes, codes that initiated self destruct killing himself and saving us. It's thought that due to the subs location the soviet renegades were trying to start a war between china and the us, as 300 miles was maximum range for Chinese sub launched missles. I want to know about that captain

What's a search phrase I can use to see if there's any more info about this?

@@jminkvihubyb have you ever heard of these books called Bathroom Reader Books? They have trivia and short articles. I read about there. Based on quick searches I think ithe sub was called k-129. Wikipedia makes it sound like a conspiracy theory but that doesn't mean much
