Fans of OutDaughtered are well aware that Adam and Danielle’s daughter Riley Busby has been known to act out a lot, and her parents think this may be because she isn’t challenged enough.
When the Busby quintuplets took a placement test, Riley scored extremely high, which led her parents to decide that she would skip preschool and start kindergarten instead. A lot of viewers criticized the decision to separate the quintuplets, but Adam and Danielle were confident that jumping a grade ahead would be exactly what Riley needed.
Let’s take a look at how OutDaughtered’s Riley Busby is doing since skipping a grade.

If you thought your child was advanced, would you have them skip a grade?

Surely - school should be challenging and fun, there is nothing worse than boredom in a classroom esp at young age .
@kianaone2610
@kianaone2610 4 года назад
Yes, yes I would allow my child to skip a grade if she or he was above grade level. Having your child bored in class is worse as the child will become bored with class and act out, or hate school because they are smarter than everyone else in their class.

Yes I would. My parents helped me back in the first grade and because of that choice I saw school as boring and not challenging. School wasn't ment for a kid like me often I wonder around the classroom and did things my own pace and my own way. Often I was fustrated that my teachers didnt let me learn the subjects I liked or let me learn at my own level.

Yes. As a twin, ( not a quint but still kinda relevant) I think it gives her a little bit of individuality and something that she’s good at that sets her apart from just being another one of her siblings

Faydene Reed how is “kindergarten is now first grade”. They are not. If that were the case then kindergarten wouldn’t exist. It would still just be preschool. My kindergarten nephew is doing nothing that my first grade nephew is doing. And they go to the same school.

Why were people pissed? The child is gifted, why shouldn’t she allowed to skip a grade? It’s not like she’s only a twin and one of her siblings are gonna get left behind, there’s four other kids together. Big deal.

Tiffany. I agree with you! If parents feel your child is ready to skip a grade, go for it! I hope the don’t make Riley repeat Kindergarten because Riley is going to make knew friends now & it will be sad for Riley that she won’t see them the following year, if her parents keep her behind, just because of staying ALL together. I would think, schools do not keep siblings together in the same class rooms! So they are going to be separated anyway when they all go to school.
@your_huge_ego_bores_me
@your_huge_ego_bores_me 4 года назад
Because the idea that she is somehow MORE than the others is based on a very limited, biased, needful point of view. The difference, no matter what it is, can be handled without detriment to the others and depending on public schools to somehow make it all right is, frankly, stupid. That's why people are pissed, it's obvious that a selfish, lack of awareness went into making this decision.
@your_huge_ego_bores_me
@your_huge_ego_bores_me 4 года назад
@olivi doenWhen you separate siblings for education levels you are most definitely saying one is MORE advanced than the other. At that age the difference that is testable, compared to the detriments, is unimportant( barring developmental issues). That is not being done for the benefit of the child but the delusions, hopes and dreams of the adults. Is what it is.

Awesome parents! There are many perspectives on this issue. As a teacher, I was taught that you always expand on the subjects for the kids who need extra. “Broaden out rather. Than up” You have a beautiful family! Children are like flowers. They all bloom the same way just at different times.The wonderful thing is that you get to make your own decisions. My son is 6 and is in 2nd grade. He went from kindergarten to second. He was acting out in class so much, and we finally realized that he was bored with the work. I had him tested, and he was able to skip ahead. He left behind his cousin who is a year older, and also his best friend since daycare. He’s the smallest and yet the smartest one in his grade. It was the best decision I could’ve made for my child.

Only worry I see is bonding with her sisters because being in the same school bonds people or rivalry because her intelligence is a little more announced. As long as they keep all of this in check in should be great. She deserves to get to grow at her speed and so do the others.

In the U.K. (Well for England that is but I’m not sure about all of the places) they don’t skip us ahead. But I think it’s a great way to show parents of multiples that there is always 1 who is advancing ahead. Twins can even be separated from one advancing more and it shows you have to do what’s best for your kids. Riley may graduate with her sisters or may always be a grad ahead of them, either way people shouldn’t judge, it happens 😊

Children should be allowed and encouraged to excell As they are not only competing against children of the US but Children of 3rd world countries Whose parents ts realize the value of Education , esp if the parents had to work as field hands or work in rice patties. In order for our Country to Remain on top we have to realize the value of an education for the children.. So toni toad....Grow up, have a kid or two and live in the real world... And another area that bothers are the Amish....The girls stop their education at 16yo and are crippled For life to seek a real education. If a person is not exposed to the real world how do they have a choice. And I am not talking about that Springup time. (sp). I am talking about visiting real colleges, looking into real careers ..... Riley is not only smart, she’s gorgeous! I absolutely agree for her to advance to kindergarten. You want your child to be as stimulated as possible. I’m sure it’s difficult to split her from the others but you have to think of the long run. Riley going to be an individual even though she is also a quint.

Do not ever hold back your child because of something so dumb. Her sisters won't be with each other everyday of their life. When they are home take that time to let them bond. Just don't hold back any of them unless its really needed. Worrying about her sisters being in a next class and not with her, is not that needed.

As a twin myself, I hate when people don’t see me as an individual. So I can’t even imagine if I wasn’t aloud to go my own separate path because of my other twin. She’s already being categorized just by being a quint, let her be herself and go at her own pace!

Parent shaming? They are taking care of six kids! Six! These parents are so patient and I respect everything they do considering they take care of six kids. They shouldn’t be shamed for anything

IGNORE THE HATERS...they are not perfect parents either. You are BOTH GREAT parents!!! The best advice anyone ever gave me was: Listen to ALL the advice and then go home and do what YOU think is best!!!

It's a preschool kindergarten. I also went to Bright Horizons kindergarten when I was 4. Its different than public school.

I firmly believe the public is entitled to their own opinions, but there are limits and boundaries. Most of us will never have the experiences that Adam and Danielle have had and will continue to have. Therefore, critiquing is just plain wrong. I am thoroughly impressed with their hearts, morals, and choices. Of course they're not perfect, but I believe they are doing a fine job of raising all those kids, while remembering to make time for just the two of them. Regarding Danielle's health issues, I was aware of them, but to hear she has been in so much pain was a surprise! It's a self-less, loving thing parents do for their kids, putting their kids before themselves! No one can know the whole story, about what goes on behind the scenes. It's an understanding the public should take into deep consideration before posting criticism. I believe Adam and Danielle are doing a fantastic job of parenting all those kids! My hat goes off to you, and may God continue to bless you with much love, happiness and good parenting skills!

I know what it’s like to be so bored at school because I already knew everything they’re teaching. If your kid is smart enough to skip a grade you should definitely consider letting them do it.

Texas does have gifted learning classes for each grade level. If she were to stay in kindergarten, she could go on field trips and have the same experiences as her sisters, whilst still being challenged academically in gifted classes. If they move her up to 1st that means she would go to college a year early as well; definitely a lot to think about. I don’t know if holding her back academically is a good idea, but a gifted kindergarten classroom may be beneficial for her. I personally loved gifted classes. Overall, it’s their choice and their kid, who are we to judge?

It's so funny, how people are always harping about letting multiples be their own selves, not making them be the same. Then the Busbys make a choice to put one ahead, and, OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! A whole army comes out in anger. HOW DARE YOU LET HER BE DIFFERENT! SMH!

Really? At four years old they should know thier colors, numbers and letters. Being a kindergarten teacher I see just average kids. The teacher on the show is making a big deal of it so we can watch more drama on t.v.
