How Overwatch 2 Became The Worst Rated Game In History 

I personally never got into overwatch, yet alone overwatch 2, but this is just ridiculous, I thought tf2 never getting an update for YEARS was bad, I guess false promises from a constantly updating game is worse.

It doesn't help that Blizzard basically dumped their original playerbase in an attempt to capture the "hardcore shooter fans" demographic... and the OG players they pushed out of the game _("you are no longer Overwatch's intended audience, get used to it or leave")_ understandably feel betrayed.

Part you forget to mention was the falling out between Activision and Netease the Chinese company they had a deal with to bring Activision/Blizzard games to the Chinese market. That deal falling out led to every game that they were selling being Thanos snapped out of existence in China. Except for Diablo Immortal because the deal for that was with a different Chinese company. The result was all the Activision/Blizzard players in China didn't just lose access to play WoW, and Overwatch among many others their data was terminated. Imagine playing WoW for over a decade just to suddenly lose everything you played and built because of Bobby Kotik fumbling the ball. As you might guess Chinese players are furious over this. When OW2 came to Steam it gave the Chinese players a chance to make their displeasure known, and make it known they did. If you browse all the reviews and turn off the language filter you will find a shockingly high number of negative reviews in Chinese.

Overwatch 2 also killed events. The events of OW1 were always a great time. Completing challenges to get a single skin, some random trash like a charm and the rest of the event skins being $20 a piece...completely took the joy out of seeing a trailer for a new halloween event for example. Seeing what new skins in the trailer you’d be able to grind for during the event was so exciting and actually felt like an event. I doubt we will ever see Overwatch have features like that again, but I really hope I’m wrong. 😔

I miss original Overwatch, wish they would just revert the game back to how it was. I know that will never happen but a man can dream.

For those wondering, all the skins you could earn for free in the first game are now being sold at ridiculous prices in the second game which is also littered with microtransactions a battle pass.

It made me so freaking sad to see one of my favorite games destroyed by a money factory, the developers & artists must have felt so much anxiety because of that

I think it was years of pent up frustration without any meaningful place to talk about it, for example in overwatch 1 they kept rehashing the same seasonal content and having a dumb focus on eatsports and cosmetics. Then overwatch 2 finally promised some great changes and additional content, yet it turned out to be a straight up downgrade in every aspect. I really hope blizzard ports all their games to steam

As a team fortress 2 fan, all i feel is pity when looking at overwatch. It used to be this sort of rivalry between fanbases, "aha our game is better than yours" type shit, but now it's as if i was kicking a puppy stuck in a bear trap. It's sad.

Man, I remember playing OW1 with my older brother. He bought me the pre ordered version and got to play a bit pre release on his account before he got me mine. We grinded a bunch of ranked together. I miss the arg stuff with ana and sombra too. Good times. I dont like how ow2 adds the new characters though so im not playing it.

It gets even better. There are HUNDREDS of links to TF2, but also Baldurs Gate 3, Deep Rock Galactic, and Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare 2. and also some chad who listed 40 games that you could get for the price of either the battle pass, a shop skin, or a bundle.

The fact that OW2 gets outclassed by a 10+ year old shooter that got little to no updates and even got infested by BOTS that took a protest to get it fixed later. I never felt more bad for a franchise that I never played and I'm a tf2 fan

Don't forget how the game didn't get any major updates for 3 years because they said they were working on PvE. 3 years wasted on literally nothing.

as someone who spent 20$ a month on overwatch 1 lootboxes. The one punch man event killed overwatch 2 for me when it cost 25$ for each skin. That was the last time I played.

OW2 is nothing but a scam. I bought OW2 only for the PVE contents. Not only they didn’t deliver what was promised, you’ll now have to pay extra to access the story chapters. WTF!?

It’s frustrating how we waited almost 6 years for no over and like 2 years for overwatch 2 just to get the same game but with little changes

Something I’ve noticed is that- the most critical people are the people who had been playing since day one.

They called Overwatch 2 the TF2 Killer, and now it is TF2 who is laughing in the face of a collapsed horrible game.

when ow2 launched I was skeptical cuz of some changes I absolutey did not like such as doom rework and 5vs5 but I also thought that new maps and heroes would balance it out and obviously PVE and for the first 2 months i was honestly not disappointed that much but as time went on it started to get as bad as the dark days of ow1 and became worse imo. BUT pve was coming out soon and BOOM massive disappointment.. I always thought that overwatch was a bit underrated and overhated and now I couldnt be happier that so many youtubers talk about overwatch's downfall and I never played tf2 but might as well start (also something that 100% killed ow for me is some game called deep rock galactic that is so fucking good I ove to death)

When this first came out in 2016, not even released yet, I loved the art style that I wanna emulate it in 3D animation. Never played it but I bought it still for reasons. Now I graduated and I don’t have the motivation to even know anything about OW 2

It's not even close to the pve mode being cancelled, I agree there. People keep pretending that's the case and it's bs. Overwatch was literally made from remains of a high profile cancelled game. There was a lot of other factors to the downfall. Like the focus on balancing around eSports. Or the 2-3 year span of time with no significant updates.

The game was basically just updated for the monetization system. Everything else was just an excuse to soften down the impact of updating teh game for the monetization system.

I was lucky enough to be at Blizzcon 2019 and actually got to play the build with the talent tree's and all that. It was awesome, I've stopped using all Blizzard products for over a year now. After everything that they've done/do and how much of a fan I used to be, it feels like the heartbreaking loss of a good friend turned bad.

My cousin sits here and tries to defend this shit game with his life.... I try to explain to him what this shit was supposed to be from the start, and he just blows it off. We lose 99% of our games, and don't even get me started on competitive play. The heroes screen is so underwhelming, It looks like I'm playing Super Smash Bros when you play Story Mode for the first time. Oh, but I'm the one complaining, I wipe this dude in 99% of shooters, and I start to think that's what the trend is. People who are SHIT, can just play this shit for hours, LOSING for hours. Me, I can't do that. I now only spectate him on my switch lite only, and I LOVE watching these braindead matches from 3rd person. **UPDATE** He now thinks he doesn't feel aim assist at all, and thinks all of his kills are without Aim Assist and he's "cracked with aimbot", meanwhile Aim Assist is on Default 100% and he's playing Cassidy. I can't make this up

The fact that they took away box Drops ruined it for me, i play tf2 and the drops are part of my motivation, i love to grind for event skins in games but ow2 took that away hence i lost any drive to play. And no , the coin sistem in ow2 is a joke, farm for months for 1 skin is stright up predatory

Once a company lies to me and backtracks on promises I give up, same with Halo with split screen. A story mode isn’t hard when you have had 10 years, split screen isn’t hard when it’s always been a thing.

To put some context into that lying trailer, the Anthem reveal trailer was 100% fiction made up for the showcase, and the developers learned what the game was supposed to look like at the same time as the audience.

I was a very casual Overwatch player so when Overwatch 2 came out I was super displeased. There is no way in hell I'm gonna relearn my favorite hero's "overhaul" mechanics or fork over money and time so I can enjoy the new cosmetics. After the disastrous launch, where one of my buds got booted everytime he tried to get in, I uninstalled the same month.

I have a friend in my group who still plays OW2 and doesn't mind all the controversies. What's sad is that everytime he tries to get us to play with him we just laugh at his face. And then we hop on Valorant.

As far as I’m aware I am STILL missing my items from overwatch 1. I had a few tracer skins and the watch point stuff and still don’t have it. I’ve pretty much given up and realized I’m never getting it back

I may not have any experience with Overwatch compared to Team Fortress 2 or other games I have experiences with, and even I can see that how Overwatch 2 came out like this was not only appalling, but it was also horrific. Thanks to Blizzard and the selfish, corrupt and greedy corporate jerks, now Overwatch's goodwill for the general perception is completely screwed up.

Its actually kind of crazy how good games were in thr 2000's to 2010's, many of the games of that era are unmatched in their quality especially comoared to modern money-grubbing publishers force Devs to push out incomplete games, like an abortion clinic.

I don’t understand how I can pay the full price for the original game, only for them to delete it, and fundamentally change the base game. And there is nothing I can do about it as a consumer. If Overwatch 1 still existed, I’d still be playing it, but I likely will never play Overwatch 2 again after all these terrible changes.

As someone who’s been playing since ow1 the main issue for me is how unrewarding the game is. I have literally nothing to look forward too and honestly I dread whenever I have to solo queue, I could get away with it in ow1 but I’m always put with brand new players who have no idea what they are doing. There’s no skill separation in qp and it’s honestly frustrating for me and for the new players.

Not gonna lie the straw that broke the camel's back for my time with overwatch, was during the diablo immortal trailer reveal. This can just be me wearing a tinfoil hat, but around the same time that controversy was happening the overwatch comic came-out that revealed soldier's sexuality. When i read it i couldnt unthink the thought of blizzard deflating the diablo immortal controversy with soldier's sexuality, as a means to get some 2017 brownie points just because they made a character gay. I cant be the only one that assumes that to be true.
