UC Davis Aquaculture teaches you how to farm oyster spat (oyster seed) in the UC Davis Bodega Marine Lab Oyster Hatchery. We teach you the steps in how oyster grow in a downweller for remote setting of European Flat Oyster spat on shell. European Flat Oysters (Ostrea edulis) are also called Belon and are native to Europe. Our oyster hatchery is regularly experimenting with various sustainable shellfish aquaculture candidates to support low trophic aquaculture in California. Oyster Farming is conducted in Bodega bay and Tomales bay near the Bodega Marine Laboratory.
