Pakistan has long been considered the Taliban's closest state benefactor since the group's inception. The relationship has largely endured through the Taliban's time in and out of power in Afghanistan, but since August 2021, relations seem to have deteriorated sharply. In this video, we take a look at the history between the Taliban and Pakistan, why things are getting worse, and how Pakistan's Taliban strategy backfired.

Pakistan originally supported Taliban and other radical groups to destabilize and extend their influence in central Asia, in the heyday of their power when Pakistan was a country growing economically. They used Islam more and more as a national glue, to counteract the strong divisive tendences of the several ethnic groups composing the country (one of which had succeeded, giving birth to Bangladesh).

I feel like Pakistan’s plan was to basically fund and support any rebel group against the Kabuli government. They have been at odds with nearly all Kabul governments from the monarchy, daoud khan, communist gov, Mujahideen to even the recently fallen republic and now the Taliban. Taliban isn't bashtu as you said in the first few minutes of your video the meaning is right but the origin is wrong It's actually an Arabic word that means 2 students 1 student means Talib 2 students means taliban 3 or more students means Tulab Edit: Deeper explanation It is considered an Arabic word Pashto people just use an Arabic word because they don't have a Pashto equivalent for it. (A N) as people stated in replies exists in Arabic, in the arabic language if you want to make a word for 2 people/things then you either add "IN or AN" For example Talibin or Taliban, both of these words mean 2 students in the Arabic language. Arabic has a huge influence in Afghanistan and Pakistan because these 2 nations use the Quran and both of them have been under the Umayyad dynasty which is an Arab dynasty. Also trades with Arab merchants helped out. With all these factors included, we can see how huge the Arabic language and it's influence on these 2 countries Pakistan and Afghanistan. The suffix -an (ان-) in Pashto is used for plural. So in Pashto Talib (طالب) means student and Taliban (طالبان) means students. Saying Taliban is an Arabic word is wrong because this variation of it is Pashto because of the Pashto Suffix, tho the origin of the world is Arabic.

US strategy in central and south Asia has failed totally. They have fostered a relationship with Pakistan, losing India in the process, all while Pakistan funded and maintained relations with the Taliban, who are as anti-american as it gets. Pakistan is laughing, India is furious and the USA is left with no real influence in the area. Instead of allying with Pakistan, they should have allied with India. Then they would have the world's largest democracy on board both to help control Iran and the Middle East, as well as China and the Far East. The USA underestimated Muslim brotherhood and the fact that "moderate Muslims" will always side with their extremist brothers over the infidel. India knows this, Israel knows this, but Europe and America still believe that Islam is a religion of peace.

I mean I can't be that sympathetic to all the Aghan refugees in Pakistan. I get entirely that you don't necessarily want a fuckton of foreigners in your country all of a sudden. But... Pakistan... is not a nation state, not even close, the only thing really holding it together is Islam, and there are already fucktons of Pashtuns in Pakistan, the border of the Pashtun "Nation" crosses well into Pakistan and has for a long time. Given this, these "foreigners" aren't that foreign at all, so I don't get why Pakistan is so mad about it, let alone mad enough to deport them all.

Cause pak foreign policy is agressive and violent. A lot of countries adopt this kind of sick deadly games in their foreign policy, some more visible than others and then go cry at the UN and IMF and enter the "blame the west" club. It's hilarious albeit sad.

why can't these countries form a federal body along ethnic lines? basically divide up regions and form a governing body like the US does with the 50 states. make a senate and a congress plus delegate many responsibilities to the local governments.

@@fsdfsdfsd4561 no I don't expect them to do that, I also don't expect any place in the middle east or africa to do anything close to that because they don't just not get along with their neighboring tribes they actively desire to eradicate their neighbors as the single common factor across both regions.

"Balochistan" was created by a British administrator on 22 February, 1877. His name was Robert Sandemann, it was done in order to annex territory of Persian Empire. The land is called "Mehergarh" which belongs to Brahvi people. Ethnic "Baloch" have no claim on this land because they are Kurds, who migrated from Syria. The British rewarded those Baloch collaborators for their effort drive out Persian rulers, thus renaming the area of Mehergarh into "Balochistan".
