How Paul George Gave Up On The Indiana Pacers

The Paul George era in Indiana is most often remembered for the way it began, with high-flying dunks in an epic battle against LeBron James. The Pacers were just one game away from reaching the finals in 2013, but they never again reached that stage in the years following. Why did Paul George suddenly grow frustrated, and why did Indiana never win a championship? This is what lead to Paul George giving up on the Pacers front office.

Somehow, the whole PG saga is one of the most memorable ones for me from the 2010s... 2013 and 2014 series against the Heat are one of the best I have watched in my life. I still remember those days, being excited watching every game and catching every moment. Something about those series is different, I would compare it to GSW-OKC 2016, GSW-CLE 2016... one of those series where you just feel like “what the fuck” for every play on the court and realize how truly astonishing and “on the other level” it had been days/months/years later.

thank you! pacers definitely had the assets to trade for a 23 year old All NBA all Defense potential MVP who had just signed a 5 year extension. like hello how did the pelicans whiff on the incredible turner/lavoy allen/late-round picks package they could have gotten??? all they ended up with was that crappy ingram/ball/hart/hunter/three firsts deal, ewwwww, would you trade myles and lavoy for that trash??? oh wait this is just his stupid revisionist history. pacers never could have had ad, they never had the young assets or other teams picks that would have made it possible. pacers probably tried to trade for ad but couldnt make it work because they wanted PG in the trade. if there is anything to be mad at the pacers front office about, its for not trading pg for ad. except then we saw ad turned out to be a piece of shit too, so it would have been the same thing again. and that 17-18 team would have beaten the shit out of any pg13 led team. not pg24, he was a good dude, but pg13's 'all about me' "teams", blegh, give me the troy murphy kareem rush earl watson pacers over 'wayoff p' any day

It's not wrong what you said, but when there are so many times that he bailed on teams "for a legit" reason, should you still think it's not his fault? This isn't just his NBA career, when he was younger he changed high school 4 times and it wasn't because of a family relocation, then don't we all rememeber what happened between him and Doc's daughter? PG is one of those guys, some might call smart some might call selfish, he only think for himself and constantly needs to be pamperd, and will leave if he is facing challenges (if he can leave, right now with the clips he can't, otherwise he totally will), it's part of the reason why he performs poorly as Kawhi's sidekick but awesome when he is the alpha.

Had to show that Hibbert Block on Melo in Game 6 😩💔 If Melo dunks that ball, I truly believe the Knicks win that game & win Game 7 at MSG.. That Knicks team was legit & was the only time they had an actual shot at beating LeBron/Miami. We smashed the Celtics & their aging Big 3. We were down 12, late in the 3rd in Game 6 in Indiana. Suddenly, the young Iman Shumpert WENT OFF, scoring 16 points in 6 minutes to head to the 4th Tied. Knicks were up 2 w/ 5 min remaining in the 4th. They were playing great ball. Melo went up for that dunk & the block completely changed the game & series. Knicks would’ve been up 4 w/ under 5 min to go w/ all the momentum. Instead, Hibbert blocks it, ties the game & the Knicks didn’t score for the next 3 minutes. Melo finished w/ 39 Points. Would’ve had at least 41 w/ the W.. Knicks beat the Pacers in Game 2 at the Garden by 26 & Game 5 at the Garden by 10. That Block really changed everything… Knicks matched up better w/ Miami than Indiana, that year. Indiana was TOUGH defensively w/ PG, Hibbert, West, Hill, Lance Stephenson, etc… I’m sure most ppl don’t care, but let me live the very little “Glory Days” of the 2010’s 😂… That 2012-2013 Knicks team finished 54-28. 1st in the Atlantic Division. 2nd in the Eastern Conference behind Miami. A mix of young talent, brought in a bunch of Vets & had the Superstar. Melo averaged 29 pts in the reg Szn & 29 pts in 12 playoff games. A lot of ppl forget this squad.. Carmelo Anthony Amare Stoudamire JR Smith Tyson Chandler Raymond Felton Jason Kidd Iman Shumpert Kenyon Martin Rasheed Wallace Steve Novak Pablo Prigioni Chris Copeland Marcus Camby Kurt Thomas Quentin Richardson Ronnie Brewer What a Squad ! Even if just for 1 year of being an awesome team together… Kidd turned that team around, his influence & leadership alone.. Melo was able to just play & JR Smith was very talented. 6th man of the year. Not the Cavs JR Smith. Tyson Chandler Defensive Player of the Year. Loved the way Felton played! Felt a lot like John Starks that season. Ah mannn.. Let’s Go RJ Barrett…

As Paul George developed, the Pacers waved good bye to good veterans and tried to replace them with draft and 1 year stop gaps. Its like what's happening to Luka and the Mavericks right now.

Here’s a guy who gave his all to a franchise for 7 years, Is one of the most greatest players said franchise will ever have and they just threw him out. The pacers definitely got the better end of the deal though. Sabonis is a solid piece for them.

@@Alex-hr1bn PG chased everyone off. West got sick of his diva attitude, they never gave Evan Turner a chance, and Teague hated George. Telling you the guy is a cancer. Terrible teammate. Thought he was a superstar and wanted to be treated like one but he wasn't. Never hit any game winners during his time here, couldn't lift us past the Heat (and had several series where he disappeared), always pointing fingers at teammates, fans, coaches, literally anyone for himself. Pacers fans witnessed this happen that's why we were stoked to get rid of him.

@@mrgiannopolis past the heatles? seriously? nobody aside from the pacers stood a chance. the celtics had a big three and even they lost everytime. the pacers had what? west? he was good but nowhere near any of the heatles stars and roy hibbert who was only there defense. paul george was huge for that team. only reason pacers even went that far. publicly he never apologized or cried about his losses but you can tell he worked hard behind the scenes if he wasnt a hard worker how did he come back from his leg snapping in half? how did he come back after that horrid bubble season where his own teammates laughed at him?

Paul George was a great player. I think what made me more sad when he left is how much he had embraced Indiana. Thought he was going to be a career Pacer, like Reggie. Through the leg injury and everything, then the guy just split. Indiana might not ever win a chip, it being a small market team. You either embrace playing for the Pacers or you don't.

When he left, Pacers had to maka a choice: trade or max him. If they had given him the max, the team would be stagnated as Portland. There was no way, he needed to be traded. He's not the alpha guy

PG is the poster child for how to develop a great basketball player. Patience, develop each skill piece by piece, don't dump him into too big of a role too fast. Indiana just didn't put talent around him
