My local petsmart lets ME fish the fish out. Because they took 30 min to get 3 khuli loaches before i got sick and tired of waiting, asked if i could try, immediately caught 12 more in less then 3 min. Now they just hand me the net and let me catch the fish i want.

Regarding that first video, I had a Petsmart employee wrestle with three Kuhli Loaches for 5+ minutes, tore up the decorations, muddied up the substrate and water, at one point pinned one to the wall with the net to grab it.. It took a week for those loaches to calm down in my tank.

I got mollies from petco, it took them 5 minutes to catch the poor things and they never settled down again. Every time they even saw the net through the glass, they hid, or darted around. Had one jump out of the tank while i was trying to scoop plant trimmings bc it thought i was going for it.

QOTW: corys. I lucked out so far with all my fish purchases, every time got pet shop workers who actually know how to safely catch fish. But there was one funny time 3 years ago when in another pet store I bought my current zebra finches. They were caught with fish nets too. I actually felt sorry for the shopkeeper, cause I asked for the bird who kept outsmarting her. (I must note, it wasn't the same net they used in the tanks, just the same kind. They have different nets for the fish)

Once I got a couple endler hybrids at petsmart. The girl who helped me was a high schooler and she caught a few, but also caught a white cloud mountain minnow. When I asked to swap it for another endler things got bad. When she was trying to get it out of the little container she dropped an endler and LITERALLY CUT IT IN HALF WITH HER LONG ACRYLIC NAILS trying to pick it back up. She even dropped the two halves back in the tank. I feel for her, because it wasn’t like she was being callous or cruel. She was just a kid who clearly knew she’d messed up and was scared so she was trying to act like nothing happened. She just didn’t know what else to do. Another one of the fish she netted died in my car on the way home-I happened to look over at them at a stoplight just in time to see one go belly up. I still have one of that batch, though! Unsurprisingly after surviving that meat grinder he is tough as nails and will probably live forever.

I’m the aquatic specialist at my Petshmo location and I’ve gotten netting action down to a TEA. And it’s funny and kinda sad to see my coworkers and other employees from other stores struggle and go for minutes trying to catch only 1 fish. Don’t get my wrong some fish are a PAIN to catch like some loaches, Chinese/siamese algae eaters, some African cichlids, but I never take more than a minute to catch a fish. I was at a different petshmo location and was talking to the employee and he was struggling to catch me 5 red&blue Colombian tetras, and I already was making conversation saying I’m the A.S. At my store and if he’d like me to catch them and he was like nah nah I got it. And took him like 12 minutes to catch them all💀 moving all the decor and stressing every fish in the whole system🤦‍♂️😭

Now I know why people are always impressed by how I catch fish at my work. They're probably traumatized from watching PetSmart employees 😂 And as someone who's pretty decent at catching fish, you can use one net for some things (guppies will practically swim right in I swear), but 2 nets is usually better if you're catching out of a tank bigger than 10g. I usually use one large net to spook all the fish into going in one direction, and then a smaller net to snag the fish a customer wants out of the group. Some fish are a bit different, and you get used to different behaviors over time.

Years ago I went to Petsmart to buy a Pictus Cat. Surprisingly there was 2 healthy specimens and I asked for the bigger one. The employee couldn’t catch the fish for 5 minutes and when he did he pinned the catfish by 1 of its whiskers to get him. What makes matters worse was that ofc the catfish doesn’t like to be handled with nets and it’s spines we’re all cought up in the net followed with another minute of struggling. The guy couldn’t get the net off and ended up calling another employee to get scissors to cut off the whisker. Thankfully the other employee told him to just cut the net stuck to the fish. Went home with a petrified catfish with netting stuck to its face. Last time I bought from Petsmart

snail parasites are intermitant in snails and require moving to the next species of their type (parasites are indeed species specific) by being consumed. Example, lung worm in dogs requires the dog to consume a type of snail. The majority of parasites start in an insect and only after consuming do they infect the inteded host. A cat eats a flea or certain types of flies, it gets tape worm. So most of these parasites don't infect humans or don't live long if they do becuase they are too species specific, occassionally one does like round worms for example. Occasionally a parasite will migraite in a species it can't survive in and end up in wierd places, the body walls it off and this is what ends up causing damage. Strange places are tissue, eyes, brain and such. Be sure to always cook your pork well, pin worms and tape worms migraite into to pig tissue becuase it doesn't know where else to go as it's not intended for pig species but they get exposed to it so much that this is what is seen happening and the main reason on the advisory to never eat undercooked pork.

Pro tip to anyone trying to get a fish using a net. Don’t. Use the specimen container instead. You can literally have a customer point out the specific fish they want and be able to catch it without causing such a ruckus to the other inhabitants.

@@FishForThought Most houseplants are quite low maintenance in my opinion ^^ it's the substrate that makes things complicated/ easy, at least for me. I usually use leca or Pon because it's so much easier to just fill up a reservoir compared to managing soil. Especially because a lot of soil that plants come in isn't suited to the plants needs and semi Hydro is suited for so many plants.

Our local Pet Smart is actually really good. I went to get Angelfish last week, our local Mom and Pop live fish store had nothing. I went to Pet Smart, they had several very healthy looking, medium-sized Black Lace Angelfish for a reasonable price. The staff member who helped me was fantastic. She grilled me about my tank, size, stocking, filtration etc before she would catch them. Just before I chose mine, she refused to sell fish to someone who had a tank that was too small for the adult size of the fish they wanted. 10/10!

For khuli loaches, the trick is to actually have hiding spots in the tank like coconuts, and a bare bottom. And when it's time to fish some out just quickly lift up the hide and give it a big yeet with a large net before they know it. You cannot fight these guys on equal terms and if you try to tire them out you'll kill them. Taking them by surprise is the only way! Most schooling fish 2 nets do help, the trick is to have one net standing still and one to lure em in. I just use my bare hand for luring.

It's not the fish store but rather the employee! I have bought fish online, from Petsmart, and several LFS. I have had fish damaged from all sources. I'm not trying to be ageist, because I don't think it is age, but for me its the teens or early 20 somethings that have abused my fish trying to catch them. I've gotten home with fish that are missing eyes and whole fins before, when you point out a damaged fish they will always try to get you another one, but its the same person catching is sooooooo......no point. Avoid the kids that are just working there as a summer job.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries management and a Masters degree in aquatic pathology. I KNOW that there are people out there that have PhDs in fisheries science.

when I got my first platy for my new tank the Petsmart employee dropped her onto the little cart thing. He dropped her again after he picked her up with his bare hands. Fish trauma. (she wasn't injured, but still)

I get soo jealous of people with the beautiful scapes in their aquariums. My lil' goldfish would destroy all of those plants and probably bump into + injure themselves on wood because of how clumsy they are.

First fish that came to my Mind: Mollies Originally we started it with Iridescent Indian catfish with a male and Female Mollie and guess what One day My Mom sees Fries Floating on Top and she Immediately Rescued them and ever since then We learnt to differentiate between make and female in Mollies and we just saved The Fries from Being eaten and There was a Population Boom with Inbreeding in them and Many More Mollies were Born along with Baloon Mollies until One day the bio load was Too much and all fishes soon started to die it is only then that we decided to quit it also this wasn't a Natural aquarium or anything it was all Artificial with Artificial plants, Air Pump white Pebbles etc and My Mom washed fish tank with soap every few Months or so which made her tired so she decided to Quit it forever

I went to pet smart of Saturday, and after she caught the fish, she stuck them in the bag and then spun it like a tornado... inside the bag was a whirlpool, and 2/3 fish died 3 days later. I'm never going there again I'll stick to ordering them. At least my ordered fish are still alive after 2 years.

Ocellaris Clownfish. When I win the lotto, I won't say anything but there will be signs. A saltwater aquarium will be one of them.

I've spent like $120 all in. For 60$ i got two 10 gallons, a 5.5. I started witb the petco aqueon 50% off stuff and got a 2.5 for(shrimp/scud). Spent like 60 on filters, media, plants, substrate and soil. Got gifted some Nclass Endlers to breed in the 2 10s and my 5 is a grow up tank. The 2.5 has my ghost shrimp. I just trade my endlers for ISC now so I don't pay for anything for the fishtanks. But I surely have contracted MTS 😂😅

If you want crabs, start with borneo crabs. ghost crabs have great temperament and care, but borneo crabs will actually reproduce, and the only thing they really need is a tiny bit of land, and a basic filter. Like, imagine a vampire crab tank, and just reverse the amount of land vs water. And they're prettier than micro crabs. No shade to them, but its true.

First fish that came to my mind was a kissing gourami. And I *hate* those. My first ever tank I had as a ten-year-old had kissing gouramis (I did not choose the fish) and they murdered all the other fish. I don't remember what happened to them but I suspect my parents took them to fish jail.

after a quick google search, I have learned that the other part of the fluke lifecycle is burrowing through your liver (at least in the specific species that came up), how pleasant.

QOTW: The first thing which came to mind wasn't a fish. It was a trilobite, which means the first thing that came to mind is also extinct. I tried again, and this time came up with an Ichthyosaur. It's also not a fish, also extinct, and has the disadvantage that if it were alive, the smallest species would not fit in the biggest aquarium there is. Third time's a charm? Hillstream loaches. I'm obsessed with them so it's odd that they weren't the first thing that came up. I still want some trilobites. I'll pass on the ichthyosaur though.

Me who has been working at a specialty aquarium store for a year and a half and still struggles to catch Kuhli loaches a lot of the time 😭 We have sand as the substrate in all the tanks that have things like Kuhli loaches and Cory’s. Whenever I try to catch Kuhli loaches and there’s only a few left in the tank they end up burying themselves completely in the sand so I have to search through all the sand trying to find the fish 😭 By far my least favourite fish to catch. I love them. But I do not love catching them.

I struggle every time I get fish. I want to catch them myself. Just last week I had a new girl working in the Pet Supplies I have been going to for the past 5 years not listen to my advice. 1st she was chasing around my RoseLines and it took her forever to catch 3. She started with a small net and then the lights came on and she realized I need a bigger net. So instead of taking her time like I suggested she just chased them around. So then I seen some red ludwigia and it a weighted band holding it down and she tried to tell me it's a potted plant. The potted plants was $2 more. One again I told her that's red ludwigia this is the price right here. Then I told her I didn't want any water in the bag with the plants. She says they need water in the bag. I told her they don't and I'm only going 30min away. I said I get plants shipped and they area wrapped in wet pepper towel. Once again I said I don't need water in my bag. So she then proceeds to put water in the bag that had fish food in it because they just fed the tanks. Sorry for the rant but I definitely understand.
