It did really make me cry.I can relate how people are resilient to all the walks of life in that part of the country. I'm from the Bicol Region and everytime we are hit by a strong typhoon when I was a kid it's always coming from Batanes Island and if we got hit that strong considering that were way way far How much are those people living in that area.

I came home from the Philippines in early February after 6 weeks of vacation. It was my 3rd trip to the Philippines. And yes. The Philippines took me completely into my heart. It is a poor country in living conditions. But one of the richest countries when it comes to warmth and kindness. It's something we've forgotten in the West. And courtesy. If you are polite to the Filipinos then you get it back 10 times. And helpfulness if you have a problem. Yes, the Philippines is a rich country. Hope they can keep it while they get a higher standard of living.

I know how you feel bro. I met a girl on line when I was looking to eat up vacation time before I retired. I ended up in Bohol Philippines after meeting a girl who needed help putting her house back together after the big earthquake they had. I spent a month there helping them out and one thing led to another and I went back 4 months later, stayed over 7 months, did her visa right there, and brought her back to the states and married her. We go back every year for 2 months or more and I so love it. We've been all over as my wife is a national certified tour guide for the country. I love the country, the people, the food, the attitude, the beauty. It's a great place to go to meet a future wife because the ladies (most of them anyway) are caring, devoted, loving and beautiful. More than once I was approached by younger girls in their 20s and 30s (I was 62 at the time) and everyone there told me that age is nothing to them. My wife is 15 years younger than I am. They are very loving and devoted to their men. The islands offer so much beauty there's not way I can describe it. In many places it's still very 3rd world-ish but this is part of the charm. I hope they never westernize like the USA has become. It sucks in our own country with the way people treat each other, are out to rip people off, have let themselves go to hell physically, and generally are not at all friendly most of the time. Philippines is different. Hell, sitting with my wife in the mall in Cebu one day I was hit on no less than 3 times by younger girls or flirted with and outright asked if I would consider dumping my wife for the her. My wife is beautiful and I'm not that shallow, so I declined. But people are so friendly and easy to talk to. Yeah, it's a hard life there for many of them, but they always finish the day with a smile no matter how little money they might make. They're truly in inspiration to others - especially people from the USA. My wife can't get over how people are here. Pushy, bossy, fadish, snobby, self centered, egotistical, and just generally nasty most of the time. Even the nicer ones are like this. But in the Philippines people are warm, friendly, humble people who care about each other. I wish the USA was more like this. We've helped a lot of people there and given to schools and churches and other things worthy and even helped the destitute on the streets when it seemed reasonable to do so (yeah, there's fakes out there, just like here in the states). I'd love to move there but I'd miss my family here and my kids. But you can bet, the day may come before I die. Glad you like my adopted country. I'm an honorary citizen in her barangay for helping so many people.

Trust me age does matter I hope you don't think they hit on you because you think you are just that handsome 🤷🤷 are you hit on in the states by 20 year olds🤷 it's about having a better life for younger Filipina women. And after years of exploration and poverty it has become custom to marry an older Foreigner for a better life. And before you say what do I know . Well I have a wife and 2 kids in the Philippines I know all to well how most women there are. If she isn't trying to scam you, she is more likely wanting a better life for her kids and family. And you really shouldn't talk down about America!! It is the greatest country in the world. Yes we have some bad ppl but so does every other country in this world. And there are some really sweet down to earth women there too. I agree that that Filipina women are marginally more loving and more faithful in their relationships I guess it's in their culture to be a good house wife. But I guess it's really all prospective!!

The life that you want to achieve so much, that you dedicated half of your lifespan working, is their normal way of living. Visiting provinces will make you realize "i am poor"

I love this country. It is the most beautiful country I have ever seen. Generally speaking, the people are the friendliest, often shy, but if you are patient, you will make amazing friends. Poverty keeps the people humble and in awe of foreigners choosing to live here. Living here, I know a little bit about how it feels to be a celebrity. I often overhear people talking about me- like I am the famous local Americano. I aim to be humble too, pitch water from the river, bathe there, speak the local language, take the cheap buses, etc. The people are shocked. I smile and explain they live a very unique life that I am enjoying experiencing. I live far out away from the city and I feel that is necessary to get a real feel for living in "the heart and soul" of the Philippines.

Life was hard but it made me a better person i appreciate everything & respect all take nothing for granted. I have met wonderful people in the Philippines and become firm friends with many. The Philippines always reminds me of my childhood hence i keep going back to the PH. I am saying i'm very happy when i'm in the Philippines just sitting in the coutryside or on a small island beech watching and chatting with local people. Will i move there to live, absolutely.

What a fantastic video. Really loved it. I'm familiar with that name Batanes in the Philippines but I never knew it was such an incredible place there. Those stone houses are just amazing. The whole place is so clean and well kept and trim looking it looks like a movie set from a 1950's movie. All the roads and romantic looking paths make me want to go there and explore and enjoy every nook and cranny. This is my first video I've seen of this wonderful couple. I would love to meet them in person as we have a lot in common. My wife is also a very beautiful and charming Filipina. She's the absolute girl of my dreams. We are so incredibly compatible, we're literally a match made in heaven. After 4 & a half years together we have never once experienced any kind of fight, argument, or any kind of disagreement at all. Compare that to American women. My wife is the absolute sweetest and kindest, most loving and caring, most honest and faithful girl I could ever imagine. Actually that's not true, she's more than I could ever imagine. This guy and his wife seem like very nice people. His wife is a real sweetheart, very warm and sensitive. As beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside. I like his personality a lot, very refreshing from all the boring insensitive young guys trying so hard to be cool and gangsta. I hope we meet someday!

Who's cutting onions here? You can see how people are contented and happy living in a simpler and beautiful life. I really appreciate people who have a broad perspective of the world and how they turn their experience into a more meaningful life's lesson. In the Maslow's hierarchy of needs self actualization and transcendence is the highest which Finn and Sherlyn experienced . They appreciate happiness and contentment in a simplest way which change their view of the world. There is more things that life could offer and life is beautiful. Kudos to both of you.
@pejbartolo2365
@pejbartolo2365 5 лет назад
As much as I agree with your post, Maslow is a widely discredited psychologist who plucked his hierarchy of needs from thin air with no research involved. The highest of the pyramid is self-actualization which is basically stating that you have achieved what you aimed or wanted to be. And that is a vullshit logic as majority of people would never achieve that because of circumstances, like many dreamt of becoming doctor, nurses, teachers, etc but by twist of faith are unable to do so. If Maslow is correct, then billions of people were never self-actualized and would end up miserable.
@papashog

Wow .. how did we came into freakin’ Maslow watever, theory ?? Upon watching this two love birds? Having the time of their lives, ??
@zarmabanag
@zarmabanag 5 лет назад
@@papashog I've learned that during my University years. I think the message of this video says everything. It shows how happiness is viewed in a kaleidoscopic way.
@zarmabanag
@zarmabanag 5 лет назад
@@pejbartolo2365 that theory is such a broad topic and sometimes we tend to be bewildered. Although i am a professional nurse but I am not a jack of all trades when it comes to Maslow's. Take it as a grain of salt and view that perspective in a different lens. I think as a traveler like Finn and Sherlyn they were able to see their purpose by traveling and learn new things and impart their learning experience to the world by delivering wonderful videos and made an impact to us viewers. I can attest to that because I myself is also a traveler. I learn so many things that i have never learnt from school aside from the medical subjects. As a travelers perspective (my own point of view) our world is such a small place yet so many things to unravel and explore. Once you immerse yourself into that community/place you've visited that's the time you acquire a piece of knowledge out of that experience. I think self actualization does not only mean you need to achieve something like a profession or having a career in life . It makes you as a total person that is happy and gratified in the same manner as achieving something in life.

They may have hurricanes, but we have earthquakes, tornadoes and hurricanes here too in the USA! Things are so negative in the world today, I truly admire their life there! Can't we all just be friends, if we could the world would be so much better! Thank you for the beautiful video!

Still watching the video, but I think it's not the place but the people that has changed you, and Sherlyn is a main one of those people. I'm glad y'all decided to try to change and learn to accept each other

I stand corrected, it is the people AND the place. It surely is a special place, but if you take time to look every place has a special lesson to teach us.

Hey you two. I have watched a few of your videos and really enjoy them. I can see you sir, have found what I have found in this wonderful country. I have been visited there for 6 years and will move there in January of 2020. I can see how this country is in your heart and at the end, I also had a tear, because I know exactly how you are feeling, at the moment. Your gf is a real Filipino beauty and you two are strong together. My blessings and respect

In 2018 I went to the Philippines for 2 weeks and it also affected me in a very profound way. First of all, the hospitality was amazing! I had an experience that I have shared with my family and here is what happened.... My wife and I were traveling through a town that didn't have very many public places, like restaurants to where I could use the restroom (aka comfort room). Trying to find a place that would have a bathroom for me to use, we finally stopped and found the candy store, my wife was looking for. Hoping to find a bathroom attached to the candy, I quickly hopped out of the van. I approached an older lady who lived nearby to see if she knew if the candy store had a bathroom I could use. She said that they didn't and offered me to use her bathroom at her home. We then walked about 50 yards from the candy store to her home, (it was made of concrete walls and was about 10 feet by 10 feet (very small). Afterwards, the old lady offered me food. I declined only because we had just had lunch. I then thanked her for letting me use her bathroom and then gave her 100 pecos. The old lady was so gracious of my donation, that she grabbed and hugged me and then gave me a kiss on my cheek. For those who don't know how much 100 pecos is compared to American dollars, it's basically $2.00. I was so taken back by how much it meant to her when I gave her 100 pecos, it made me cry. For those of you who have never been, my suggestion is that you visit Philippines. It's a wonderful place and it will affect you in some way, and you'll be glad that you went. BTW....Great video guys. I loved it.

those boats are what the ivatans called "FALUWA"'...ever noticed why its different from the usual filipino island hopping/fishing boats?...because those faluwa boats were made to surf the big waves and strong currents of the babuyan channel

This is the second time I've seen you emotional in your vlog, Finn. 😢 ( The first time was when u visited your mum's resting place) Sometimes we take things for granted, always asking for more instead of being thankful for what we've got. 🙏 Thank you for sharing your experiences. This serves as a reminder that being humans we are vulnerable and not immortal, and that life is short. God bless you both, sending my love 😘💕

Gosh...you guys made me cry😭 I’m a Filipino American. Came here when I was 5. I don’t know much about my culture and Philippines. I grew up with my parents teaching us to adapt to the American ways. My parents didn’t teach us much about the culture aside from the food. I can speak Tagalog a bit. Enough to have a decent conversation but that’s about it. Watching videos from the Philippines makes me want to go back and really explore my roots. I went there when I was 14 (I’m 54 now) with my dad but I don’t think I took the time to really take it all in. Although I had a great experience, I felt like I didn’t purposely take it in ,being there, that is. We went to La Union where my dad was from and some of the surrounding provinces, and that was an adventure. Some of my relatives were living in huts on stilts but they looked happy. Love the simple life they live. I think we are so spoiled here in the states. I don’t know if you can say “lucky” because you can lose the thought of what’s important in life...HELPING PEOPLE. Interacting with humans and not so self absorbed. It takes an experience like this to make you realize how relationships are important and life is short. No one is promised a tomorrow.

I honestly cant comprehend why all this Old White People came here to retired and have a wonderful retirement, But No Foreigners of Filipino descent are retiring here?? They got retirement money, they are allowed by Philippine Law to owned property even though they are not Filipino citizens. And Most of the Benefits of being Filipino descents..?? Are they a ashamed of coming back?? Or whatsoever.?

I totally understood why you cried.. I do that all the time.. my family is very poor.. I have to leave at 10 years of age, put myself to school.. today whenever I go home.. I empty my wallet and help everyone... I normally come back to the US in debt.. even that .with debt. my life is still one hundred percent bettter than the one I left home.. I am always heart broken... to see them so broke and struggling .. And I wondered why I am so different! often wondered.. How I made it through! and how I wish I can help everyone.. so I started provideng supplies to schools and hoping that everyone will take education seriously like I did,, at very one aged I know that to get out of poverty I need to put myself to school...

again.. they are not broke.. its just that they don't need that many money to live.. they grow their crops to eat 3 times a day.. a typical city dweller spends almost 10 hours a day in front of computers in work.. that time is better spent with ur loved ones.. or rest..heheh

@@sarmatii7378 your right education is the key out of poverty. I agree. But I know people who can't afford to take their kids to school or even sign them up and pay the registration fee. Also some cant afford for the release of their birth certificates because that's also a fee without that they cant register their kids to school .sometimes its deeper than what it looks and it's not laziness. And regarding security guards I wished they had them here in the states because mass shootinga are happening too often even in schools.

I learned about the boat refugees when I went to Puerto Princesa about two years ago. Anyhow, I wonder if the stories - horrible stories, that is - about the boat refugees that went to other nearby countries in SEA were true. I'm very sorry if it were. It was just that horrible. I'm glad that People of Palawan welcomed you nicely back then.
