This guys is smart not just because his engineer expertise in hardware and software but how he can communicate and explained the idea behind the design to a layman like us flawlessly.
@@RawHeat100 It's not overclocked it's just has a very high clock . The clock speed is the normal game speed and maintained at that level forever. It's just will be adaptable based on the games base to base.
@@RawHeat100 SO then if in your definition high clock means overclock then Xbox series X running at 1800 mhz is also overclocked compared to Xbox One X running at 1175 mhz 😂
As an electrical engineering graduate student ( specialising in digital hardware design) I'm blown away by how easily he is explaining these extremely complex concepts.
Jesus Christ man you can clearly see that Mark is limiting himself soooo much and does his best to simplify all he has to say. The knowledge of this man is just ridiculous!
Not just that but he has that rare trait of being a great communicator and knowing how to dial things down a notch so the average gamer gets a great insight into things like the hardware. He's basically a conduit.
Man, the SSD really has been a massive improvement over previous generations of consoles that were using HDDs. All the native PS5 titles I have load within 5 seconds or less, some games like RE8 and Rift Apart load basically instantly. I'm also really stoked that 60fps is now the norm this generation. I can't go back to 30fps now that everything I play is at 60, it is quite literally a game changer
This has to be one of the best tech videos I have ever seen in my life. The way everything was explained, even the more tech-driven aspects of choosing QLC over MLC, etc. Or the count and size of CPU/GPU cores. This was flawless. Best publicity for PS5 ever produced IMO. And great production quality of the video also. Great job!
I'd never really thought about this, but after watching this I realized that PlayStation's philosophy revolves around building the best console for the developers, before even the players. Nice.
are you stupid or am i stupid and understood you wrong? of curse they have developers first in mind, its a chain of service, Sony builds a sort of stage, performers aka developers need to have it comfortable and suitable to their needs so they can deliver a more enjoyable experience to the end costumer, AKA players, When you sell a kitchen to a family do you ask the children what they need in the kitchen or do you care about the mother's opinion who usually is gonna be the one using the kitchen?
Remember guys: This man made Sony into making him, a foreigner, the lead designer of their last two consoles. One more gen and he'll be tied with Krazy Ken.
I don't think I've ever been as convinced by a system architect to buy a console until now. Of course, it probably helps that I already have a PS5 to truly appreciate the features.
Yup same. I was planning to get a PS5 eventually when they finally stopped resolved the shortage, but now I really want one after seeing all the tech and passion that went into it, and seeing what an advance piece of engineering tech it really is! Like I wasn’t even aware of the compression feature and how games on the PS5 actually take up less space!
@@RawHeat100 they aren't a bot, but you sure sound like you wanna be one. You've made over 40 comments on this channel all about SONY BAD and it's baffling that we still have people like you who love and hate different corporations like this. Neither MS nor Sony care about you personally, just your money. :) Go play a game on whatever plastic box you like and relax.
Mark really has a passion for what he does and it really comes through here. Great interview... You can see that with Playstation it wasn't just about beefing up the specs for Cerny. He really wanted to address concerns that developers had and make it so much easier for them moving forward.
These companies have been telling us for years how much more easier they want to make the hardware in order to accommodate the devs, yet the devs return that courtesy with more broken and/or unfinished games than the gen prior
As an Xbox player, it’s great to hear someone speak so well and passionately about what he does. I think it’s great we have people like Mark Cerney and Phil Spencer both passionate about what they do. We as gamers are very lucky. Enjoy gaming no matter where you play it..
I get what you mean, but Phil Spencer is not really comparable to Cerny. He is more of a marketing guy. He throws around stuff like teraflops to mislead fanboys. The interview with the Xbox hardware team was pretty cringy. They were throwing buzzwords like "framerates we've never seen before" etc. The console itself is pretty awesome don't get me wrong. Mark Cerny is on the opposite end of the spectrum where he gets so educational and elaborate that he sometimes risks putting people to sleep. Honestly, I prefer the latter.
@@ethan7633 I guess I just had/have bad luck. Most of my controllers developed drift around the 300-400 hour mark. Interestingly the one I dropped is the one that lasted the longest. One of them only lasted about 100 hours. I have stopped gaming on my PlayStation entirely because I feel like a sucker replacing the same item so many times. Maybe its because I play shooters
I have a pc and the ps5. I'm blown away by all those features. I ended up getting elden ring for ps5 just because I want to experience the game with the dual sense controller. It makes a huge difference in the game.
Sony console engineering is just amazing in almost every aspect they never fail to deliver every new release. Heck PC’s are taking over now but consoles will always have a special place in people’s hearts filled with nostalgia and joy shout out to the PS2 day’s.
PC’s are overrated and very overpriced.😒 Also special shout-out and mention too the PS3 days playing MW2 and B02 online after school was just FUN AF!!! ILL ALWAYS STICK TO CONSOLE.
@@androiduberalles not to mention the fact that most people don’t know anything about using computers. Consoles will always be important for the lay people.
Wow, Marble Madness was one of the first games I ever played when I was like 6 years old. it is crazy to me this guy has been designing games for literally my entire life now, and he has been behind some of my favorite experiences. Mark shaped my childhood without me even knowing it.
Peter Molyneux (Fable), Jordan Mechner (original Prince of Persia), Kazunori Yamauchi (Gran Turismo), Mark Cerny... I love listen to those guys - they can almost hypnotize you with their passion and vision of creating process. Thank you WIRED.
Mark Cerny has been working on PlayStation since the early 1990s he's pretty much the unofficial vice president on the technical side for the entire division of course you will see him in the team that builds the PlayStation 6
I love the fact that the PS5 did not pursuit only more powerful graphics. The SSD + Tempest + Dualsense combo really ups the ante for this generation. And PS VR 2 is just around the corner
We need to start a petition to PlayStation to get official full support driver and software for the dualsense on PC so we can use all their functions on PC and game developers can add those features to pc games
This man combines all the best qualities of Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak and thus surpasses them both, at least in the context of the video game world.
i'm so happy that after years of consoles being considered inferior to PC gaming, the PS5 especially among the current gen consoles leaped so far into the future with new technology that now i believe we're going to have just another era of improving those features before any new innovations can occur, and that's a good thing because already the technology brought into the PS5, compared to its predecessor, makes it superior in so many dimensions, and going forward i see the most major improvements to the next say 2 generations of consoles will be having more powerful hardware to handle games at higher framerates AND high resolutions at the same time (high graphics settings at 4K while still getting 120FPS), having more capacity of that fast NVMe SSD storage and probably improve load times even more, and of course improving the already amazing haptic feedback and ergonomics of the controller.
I could honestly listen to Mark for hours. What an amazing presenter and fascinating individual. You can really feel his passion for the video games and the industry as a whole.
8:12 Bloodborne? I know it's a game that was designed around 30 fps and any higher actually broke gameplay, which is why it's taking so long to have a 60 fps patch for it
I'm pretty sure he's talking about God of War. He mentioned that exact same story before the console came out. I don't know where but I vividly remember it
@@souravkamila4680 I know. He was talking about this story BEFORE the patch tho. And I think he's referencing it in the video. Notice he said "to fix it" when describing it, so it is a game that's patched. It's not bb
@@ps5hasnogames55 It's all about optimizations. What didn't you learn? You can spec this or that up, but if parts don't talk together well enough or utilizes the power well enough, it's gonna be sub-par. Trust me.
I love how he is so knowledgeable and he can really connect the tech to the function so seamlessly, that is how you know he knows every detail of what he says. Also his voice is so calming lol
This reminds me of listening to John Carmack. Everything they say is so lucid and clear, no matter how technical and complicated. And it comes naturally, the entire 5+ hour interview with Carmack on Lex Fridman is basically a masterpiece of lucidity and intelligence, no matter what you throw at him. I am just glad these people exist.
The Audio and the haptics on the controller made me get one. Was going for the xbox but after testing out both, I really enjoy the PS5 way more. Also doesn't help that I have a monster PC that can play xbox games. The haptics on the controller for single player games really immerses you into the game even though it is subtle on most titles.
They're the two things that STOPPED me getting one. I don't want yet more useless gimicks like that stupid touchpad to get in the way of my games and take me out of the experience hen I'm forced to use them.
I'm happy for you and all, but I've played a good bit of games utilizing the full spectrum of PS5 haptics... and it's completely overrated. It's the SSD that really amazes me.
"3d audio" is a gimmick, no game actually uses it. haptics and trigger effects are also a useless gimmick that reduce the lifespan of the controller (internal plastic gears will only last so long before cracking due to friction) and mind you the lifespan on the controller is already known to be short (on average just 417 hours of use before drifting occurs).
I feel extremely ignorante in only getting to know Mark Cerny just now, him speaking about all of the features and games let's you now he isn't reading off some marketing sheet, he has been involved 100% in all of these features he is talking about
I would love be a fly on the wall for a conversation between Sweeney and Cerny. I would probably get lost about 5 minutes in, but it would be incredible none the less.
@@griffgames9538 it’s not about the amount they’ve sold (it’s done even better than the PS4 sales when it released), the problem is how many scalpers take a huge chunk of them
@@wilocentenodroz9810 The component shortage represents several million consoles behind. Scalpers aren't sitting on millions of consoles as we speak - that wouldn't make sense. It would be bad business for them.
Watching this video a few days after finally getting a PS5. I’m very very happy to experience new and improved hops in consoles. What I mean is just the tottal difference between the last gen and now. The 7th and 8th generation of consoles I look at like generation 5 and 6. Improved for a more control and the idea and development of complexity. This generation (I’ll even say for both teams) is a huge step in a new wave of gaming.
That controller really pushed the boundaries of immersion for single players. I hope all gamers experience it and it becomes a standard no matter the system.
