There's a white paper by the DOD from the early 2000s that documented war games between Iran and the US and we the US lost. They used hundreds of boats and missiles to sink our aircraft carriers. I can't remember the name of it but it's a interesting read of you can find it.

Russia and Iran don't actually like eachother and for a long time have been rivals. They only work together right now because Russia is one of the few countries actually willing to invest in and by from Iran, and vice versa.
