How Rare Was the Last Full Moon, and When Is the Next One? 

The Full Sturgeon Moon on Aug. 19-20 was both a supermoon and a Blue Moon, distinguishing it from the Super Blue Moon of last year. This year’s event was a Seasonal Blue Moon, part of the summer’s sequence of four Full Moons, whereas last year's was a Calendar Blue Moon, which occurs when there are two Full Moons in a single month.
