Under the Delhi Government’s ambitious City of Lakes project, the Delhi Jal Board is transforming the Indian capital, globally infamous for toxic air, into a city of lakes. It has given Delhi 14 new lakes and 35 water bodies over a span of five-six years in neighbourhoods such as Sanoth, Pappankala, Rajokri, Burari and Bhalaswa, among others. Next, they are moving to Naraina and Rohini and a few other nearby areas, converting dump yards into scenic landscapes. Besides improving the aesthetics of the city and reviving public spaces, the project is increasing water tables and bringing birds back too. Watch ThePrint Ground report by Sonal Matharu.

@@SandeepKulshrestha At the back of my mind, the solar panels on canals was an initiative of Gujarat government (appreciated internationally for innovation in clean energy), Nal se jal scheme by centre which has greatly improved access to clean, tap water across India, UP's infrastructure push through expressways (Bundelkhand, Ganga, etc.), largest solar power park in Karnataka, etc. and many such feats. Unfortunately, no channel is unbiased. All are biased, it is just the degree and spectrum of bias which varies. Some supporting non-left ideology ditch congress and other socialist governments completely while others ditch bjp completely or partially. Sad reality.

The biggest problem is that residents are the one that pollute such Lakes & parks. I hope Delhi Govt will create more such Lakes & Biodiversity parks. If required, Delhi-Govt should categories these Lakes as Biodiversity parks & restrict entry of Citizens to avoid pollution, if necessary. Delhi needs to invest in Planned infrastructure especially public Rental Housing under which:- (1) Delhi-Govt reconstructs Unplanned colonies into planned residential + commercial places (2) Allow residents to rent apartments like 1-RK, 1-BHK & 2-BHK at subsidized rates. (3) Create Avenues to establish Commercial sectors as big as Gurugram to boost Employment.

@@vermar88 I said cleaner. I have been there 3 times. Once in 2012 and again in 2019, 2022. I stayed in Chetganj and went to usual tourist destinations like Lahori Tola and the Ghats, Ramnagar Fort etc. And they looked way more cleaner than before. The water was miles better.. I'm not from there so spellings, names may be wrong.

You can't turn an entire huge river into a water treatment area, that's what corrupt politicians with sham project fool you into believing. To clean a big river, you first have to clean all the small rivulets that carry the waste into it. If we can treat and fix thw effluent before it reaches Yamuna, just like what's done in this video, the river will clean up on its on.
