Luxemburg has become a nightmare, governed by a group of corrupt elite, who own most of the lands, and who infiltrate the political parties. They are currently sacrificing their youth generation, underpaying them by refusing to bind the revenues to the galloping inflation of over 10% in housing. Every year the price of a small appartement rises at the rate of an annual revenu of 30.000€ of an average employee. Only people who inherit can afford to stay.
Rich country but not rich people (there is a difference) It's extremely expensive to live there So much that we young people are forced to leave the country, buy or rent something outside the borders and then come back to the country to work. The high end stores are mostly for the tiny part of Luxembourgish people who can actually afford those and for rich tourists. The GDP is high because there is a big gap between the average person's income and the more rich person.

Didnt know you had this segment @alux. I always wanted to visit Luxembourg & ticked off that goal this year in August. Loved it despite lots of constructions in the city. The best thing is the meeting of the history and finance. Beautiful architectural historic buildings house some of top financial institutions. Luxy Luxembourg, yes it is super expensive except the transport. And from next year aparently the transport is going to be free. Also bumped into a soup kitchen and saw the poor people being given food by the Duke or the govt. (the staff said). Thought that was nice but couldnt the state provide opportunities so people feed themselves. Interesting to hear about the tweeking parameters for GDP calc.
You are right on the fact that people have a high income, but that doesn’t mean that we can afford buying gucci and chanel every now and then, u said it yourself a lot of houses cost about one million and up, so imagine having to pay that of and also taxes gas and water. This is a quite narrow vision of Luxembourg. Some people enjoy those mentioned benefits BUT only those that nourish the perverted capitalist system. There is a huge discrimination in salaries for health professional, artisans and intellectuals. In many cases, the intellectual elite ends up on the lower end of the income scale (PhDs earning less than cleaning stuff) only because the intellectuals and creatives threaten the capitalist system by critically evaluating it and shedding light on the dysfunctional/toxic elements of the capitalist society. So yes, there are many qualified residents in Luxembourg BUT the most highly qualified are severely discriminated. (Written by a native)
Are you a communist or what are you? Socialism has failed its boastful promises everywhere it was established the system of the country. And you know full well that even in Luxembourg pure capitalism never existed. What has existed for many decades now in Luxembourg is what is called in german "soziale Marktwirtschaft". And this with some success as you can see in this video.
@Kirsch Christiane : fake news : health professionals in Luxembourg are paid 2 to 3 times higher than in neighbouring countries. A regular nurse after 20 years of work is paid over 120000 euros per year. The PHD's earning less than cleaning are only the PHD's who studied matter that do not bring in money (PHD's in economics, law, etc) win many times more (12000 to 18000 per month after 20 years) than a cleaner around 2400 euros per month

I resent the word "micro-state", because Luxembourg isn`t a micro-state. Countries like Monaco, Liechtenstein, San Marino or Andorra are "micro-states". Luxembourg is neither the richest nor the smallest country in the world.
@@historyhongkong7521 the cost of life is very high in Luxembourg, especially the rent. Lots of people choose to live in Belgium, France or Germany because housing is too expansive. You can easily pay 1500€/month for a small appartment. Impossible to afford with a low salary
