As Coun. Brad Bradford pushes to end tobogganing bans at Toronto parks, a new report says 'risky play' is essential to child development; a joint car theft task force among Ontario police has led to 89 arrests and 554 criminal charges since September; and, Aldo Mucciarone of North York says Air Canada denied him compensation after his golf clubs were destroyed during a flight from Florida.

people who wants to ban tobogganing were dropped in the head too many times as a child.

I did break my leg in half tobogganing. I was 15 years old. It was my fault. We make a ramp from logs and snow. Everyone was jumping so high. I was a big kid. And the speed i achieved was amazing. I panicked and tried to hit the brakes on my GT Snow Racer. And my leg went under the ski part and when i jumped 6 feet landed on my leg. Snapped it in half. Still have issues with pain. But glad there were parents there to call a ambulance.

Our grandchildren have been losing so much of our childhood activities. And we should be able to show not just talk about what we had as children growing up. Not just the FACTS of walking to and from school up hills in the snow. ENOUGH IS NOT ENOUGH GIVE THEM A GOOD CHILDHOOD

Did the same; icy hill and a crazy carpet. Bad combination when it comes to getting around trees. Smashed my ankle up but a memory I will never forget and it didn't stop me from going out on the hills the next year either. Smashed my jaw riding my bike yet I still love riding today... it is a part of youth. At least it used to be.

I havent gone in years, but I was talking to my gf about getting a toboggan - I guess I've been living under a rock because I had no idea it was banned at so many places. Literally the most fun I had as a kid, some kids would build big ramps and I never did those (thats the risk assessment part) but I can't imagine a Canadian childhood that doesn't involve sledding, at least once or twice.... Dennis Park in Newmarket baby

They should have lifegaurd type of paid personel/1st responders at the toboganing sites and let the kids have some risky play...I slid down hills on car hoods as a child and I am ok...If money is the issue you could take the free needles, pipes and safe supplies from the fools who do not care about their own lives let alone childrenand let the kids play...

If the city feels the need to abdicate financial responsibility for an activity and its possible consequences the intelligent reponse would seem to be to curtail those activities. It only takes a few seconds for disaster to occur. Mistakes can severely affect or even take a child's life.
