@@droidsxi3271 what you are referring to is psychological tactics used in interrogations. Also have the capability to draw enemy fighters out to fight, airdrops of info or instructions to civilians as well as demoralizing messages to the enemy. The title caught my eye as I was in southern California in 1992. I was working on the southern edge of the riot area, immediately south of the CA 91 Fwy. We could see the plumes of smoke from the fires due north of us on the other side of the freeway. Looked like 1991 downtown Baghdad. We were sent home early in the morning on Day #2 and told not to come back until called. I know some of what the Koreans used on their rooftops as several of us helped supply them with some additional arms and ammunition by slipping them in to the edge of the riot zone with Koreans picking them up. None of it was mine, but AFAIK (according to the ringleader of the effort), all the arms were returned afterward. It was basically whatever they could muster in semi-auto rifles plus some shotguns, but the latter weren't of much use. In the best defended portions of Koreatown, they used interlocking fields of fire from opposing rooftops and communicated across the street with each other in addition to communicating laterally with those on buildings next to them. Sometimes it was simple hand and arm signals. Many of the Korean men were immigrants and had served in the ROK Army. They knew how to fight using small unit tactics, and how to do so in an urban setting. It is why much of Koreatown wasn't looted and burned. The official claim is no rioters were killed by them (they do acknowledge some wounded), but I personally know that's not entirely true. A number of the looting rioter "homicides" were never solved. There was never a big push to solve them either. Bottom line is they used iron sights almost exclusively and engagement range was generally 100 meters or less. The rifles I know of that were used included the Colt AR-15 of that era, the rifle version with 20" barrel and fixed stock, the Ruger Mini-14 plus a few of its sister Mini-30, and some Chinese AK-47s. The rest were an assortment of many different semi-auto and bolt action (e.g. M1 Carbine). The Rodney King Riots were assuredly a SHTF couple of weeks WORL in south central LA, even after the 7th U.S. Infantry from Fort Ord and 3rd Marines from Camp Pendleton showed up (the CA Nat'l Guard was a useless, disorganized FUBAR Cluster Fuck). There is much to be learned for a SHTF TEOTWAWKI event from 1992 Koreatown. It's a "Come as You Are" affair. Don't need Gucci Guns laden down with Tacticool gadgetry. If the event continues for any length of time, anything battery powered is history, and don't think about plugging into a wall outlet anywhere -- or getting fuel from a gas station (they rely on the power grid). It's going to be down to fundamental basics. My thoughts on it having lived through what occurred in 1992 and watching it from a ringside seat. I liked your thoughts on the 25/300 zero, which is what we used on the M16A1 as it didn't have adjustable elevation. If you go by the formal "Point Blank" definition, it gives you a 0 - 300 Point Blank range in which you're going to hit within a few inches of your aim point. Aim about 5-6 inches high for 350 meters. Should be good enough for nearly all except precision long-range snipers. 20 years of Uncle Sam proved that out for me, some of it just before the 1992 Rodney King Riots, all with iron sights.

Adjusted the Surefire flashlight mount a little (at 9 o'clock) so I could use my support hand to operate the light, and that's it. All I need on my gun to make it work for me.
