How's it sound? - Marshall CLASS 5 head into 4x12 Cabinet with Gibson SG 

if you use a Boss SD1 over drive it turns this little guy into a rock monster

only the head will not shake internally the combo shakes with a tin sound easy fix if you know what your doing

I think the EQ is interactive...when you push the mids the bass also increases

I had one, it's very loud.

I used it with a 4x12 cab in a band with another guitar player, bass, and drums. More than enough volume for practice and bar gigs. I kept volume around 10-12 o’clock. Clean tones were achieved by rolling back the volume on the guitar.

Even at 5 watts tube amps are just loud. But its usually a question of how much clean headroom you need and at what volume. Most Marshall amps start to compress and get crunchy pretty early unless we’re talking about much higher watts. If this little 5 watt amp is already compressed and overdriving then you don’t really have much of a second gear volume wise. You step on a boost or gain shaping pedal and it will just overdrive more without getting much louder. That just doesn’t work for some situations.

I've jammed with a couple of really gorilla fisted drummers and was still able to drown both of them out with this baby cranked through a 4x12 cab. It seems to get almost as loud as my 50 watt JCM800 2204. The only difference I notice is that it distorts much earlier on the dial. By the time you get it up so you can hear it over the drummer the sound is really crunchy. So don't expect a usable pristine clean tone at gig volumes. It's a non-issue with me being that I pretty much play with it cranked the whole time and back off the volume knob for a semi clean tone.
