Karen Konkoly is a Ph.D. student researcher in psychology at Northwestern University, specializing in lucid dreams. In 2021, Konkoly was part of a groundbreaking research, where they discovered a way to have a two-way communication with an individual during a lucid dream.
Inside Northwestern's Sleep Lab, Konkoly demonstrates how she conducts her sleep studies and explains the science behind Lucid Dreaming.

It is facinating how much we still don't understand about sleep and dreams. Lucid dreaming has gotten me out of nightmares, for sure, but usually lucid dreams are kinda boring for me because im my non lucid dreams I go to different lives, people, places, situations. Sometimes its like I'm watching a good movie and sometimes I'm participating. When I've become totally lucid I will maybe fly or do like one thing, and then it's like now what. I've been diagnosed with Hypersomnia so could be correlation. I will drop almost immediately into REM.

what are half awake lucid dreaming, while Im daydreaming but get sleepy I sometimes switch into a full visual lucid dream but I know I am still awake

I can lucid on demand , and have out of body experiences… but they are clearly not reallly out of body cause you can’t read nothing or tell what’s going on in other rooms

REM/lucid dreaming is not even a dream or a nightmare its hard to explain and even harder to control the best way I find to trigger a lucid dream would be to control a bodily function ie needing to go piss and sweating at night if you could trigger the feeling and then get rid of it i feel people might be able to control the dream a lot more. I also find it impossible to build more then 1 complete building in rem sleep there’s a need for detail for realism and it’s impossible to remember everything placement ect while working on the next build it’s like no matter how many times you try to permanently engrave what I have just done stand bk and examine as soon as I look away and bk again it like it drops below 300p and turns bk into a almost gta 1 graphics
