Taking an outside man or woman is not the answer. But in all honesty once the sex stops, say goodbye to the marriage. That lack of intimacy, or doing it out of 'obligation' is a red flag, and if the partner shutting down refuses to talk about it or seek counseling, say goodbye.

Yes I agree about not cheating. If you do, you hurt/use someone else unfairly weither you know it or not and you will hurt yourself more then you know. I am going to keep trying even though my husband keeps finding new ways to hurt my feelings and push me away. Lately he is giving in and then at the most vulnerable moments, using his words to shame me. Someone has to put down their intimacy sword first. It's going to have to be me. I hope I can survive this

Been in a sexless marriage for 18 of 20 years... and 21 of 23 years I've known her. I cannot even bring myself to initiate a kiss or a hug. She is the sweetest thing most of the time.... but I don't feel like she respects me and she is relentless when we disagree and never lets things go. I have felt emasculated and humiliated in front of our family, friends, and or daughter. She never changed so slowly I lost my romantic feelings for her. I woke up one morning realizing its just a partnership from my side. The only reason IM staying is because of our daughter. But now shes 15 and I think shes old enough that she could endure it because we couldnt separate until shes 16 anyways.

Sex is extremely important in a marriage. If you are the spouse being rejected it is a dehumanizing experience. And if the situation doesn’t change the marriage will either end or the spouse being rejected will start to break Covenant and seek affection from outside sources. Either way to seek someone on the side or divorce... these are horrible options. BEFORE YOU GET MARRIED... have a real down to earth... bold and blatantly honest conversation about sex and money. I think that sexual and financial compatibility and two key factors in marriage. They go hand in hand. Discuss your sexual needs and how your view money. If you CAN agree on these two major issues the rest can be worked out with ease.

What if after 20 years of being sexually frustrated you realize your husband is ASEXUAL. We have sex 3-6 times a year and it’s for all of 32 seconds. It may be hard to believe but other than that we have a perfect relationship. We’re best friends. He’s my person. I’m his person. But I feels so rejected when he doesn’t desire me. It might even be easier if I was morbidly obese and ugly but I’m not. Other people can not believe I’m not desired by my husband. I don’t want to end our relationship due to lacking sex but I feel like a plant that is only watered enough to barely stay alive. Certainly not enough to ever bloom.

That’s more then likely what’s happened in my 31 year relationship then because the sex ended more then 8 years ago the only thing that’s kept us together is that we had a friendship too before it went south but the only reason it did was because all of a sudden he said horrible mean things about me physically and personally so there will never be anything again and I don’t even know if I could with another because of it!! Prior to that it was fine or so it appeared. When I told him or rather reminded him he says oh I was drunk I didn’t mean that stuff but he did it in front of people and drunk is no excuse so I guess that’s why I have to be burdened with the thoughts “ is he stepping out”!? I wish I had learned the truth and not believed all the false representations about sex and marriage when I was young; I was taught that sex is this great thing and marriage meant enjoying lots of sex and each other throughout this life. Oh and if I had known how effectively sex can be weaponized, I would not have been blindsided and broken. My advice to the young version of me is "chastity is a bargain, never abandon it". Over 10 years ago when I stopped asking my wife for sex it brought me great freedom, a huge burden was lifted off of me, Because life is better when you are not on your knees begging for a scrap. The cost is just too high to ever ask again. Feel free to disagree, this is just an old man’s .02.

My wife tried to use sex as a weapon for manipulation too about 7 years. I decided to lose weight, dress better, become confident and find a side GF. Well I have had about 5 GFs in those 7 years and the sex has been amazing with them. All of my Gfs know about my situation at home and they don't care I am married. Some women see being the "other woman" as hot and exciting. All of my GFs have asked what my wife wont do sexually for me and they go out of their way to make me happy. From anal, threesomes, public sex and getting really good at oral. These younger women are a different type of woman then the ones I grew up with. They are more open to porn, sexual encounters and making their man happy is priority number 1. Maybe they feel if you're not happy and you have an affair on your wife you will do the same to them.

I don't think she is using as control but she is not being honest about how she is feeling. I know we have been disconnected ,and she has told me this but didn't know how to fix it. Over the the last month I am realizing why and how we became this way. Now if we can just pull things back together. I know it will take time and effort and I am okay with that. When I saw my wife the other day she looked happy again,when I said something to her about (being happy) she said she is at ease. What do I do about a post menopause wife who says she has no desire anymore? I'm 49 and shes 62 with the body of a 35 or 40 year old.....yes that's part of the problem I guess. Has your wife considered hormone replacement therapy ? I ask because that is supposed to restore the libido after menopause. And regulate the hormones. The only issue is that she may not want to go which leads to further feelings of rejection. I hope your wife will be receptive to this. I am going thru this right now. This is good but my husband won't talk to me. He rejects me constantly & when I cry and try to tell him how the rejection hurts, he shuts down, stares at the wall & says nothing. I understand how you feel. I am going through the same thing. I’m so sorry to hear this. It really hurts. I literally just spoke to my husband about this for the last 2 hours and couldn’t help but to cry my eyes out. He always finds ways to make it my fault. “You don’t agree with me” or “today, you agreed with me but you weren’t dressed up” or “today you look wonderful but you had an attitude” or “today your attitude was great but I just wasn’t in the mood so I didn’t think about it” and the list grows and grows LIKE WEEDS. I am so depressed and sexually frustrated. I am constantly feeling like there’s no use in approaching him because there’s always SOMETHING that’s going to make him say “No”. I have the Ovia app for my cycle and I log every time we have sex. Literally on average we have sex between 0-3 times a month (and that is just me going back a whole year). I’m so exhausted, I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to cheat, I don’t want to end my marriage, but I have no way OUT. I’ve just been praying and crying on a weekly basis. Now I feel like I just want another child and then I will leave him alone and never ask him for sex again. BTW I’m only 35 years old and we’ve only been married for 2 years.

Not always intentional behavior but hormone imbalance. Men or women. Get a hormone panel done. Then look into hormone therapy. They have pellets they insert into a persons hip. Time release. Not expensive in the big picture. Kept and monitored in safe range as if you were in your early twenties.

My ex and I were together for seventeen years. For the first ten years things went great, but in 2009 she almost had a nervous breakdown (behind two years of the unbelievable stress of finishing up her PhD), after which she started becoming more and more distant toward me. First she got to where she no longer wanted me to kiss her. When she started rejecting my romantic advances I knew in my inner man that it was the beginning of the end of our relationship. And I was right. After about another couple of years she no longer wanted sex. I stayed with her for two more years (always thinking/hoping that things would get better), but gradually things got worse. She eventually started treating me like I was a stranger. It was the worst thing I've ever been through. Looking back, I wonder if she had continued to have sex with me if things would've turned around. It seems that having sex keeps the spark of love alive.

After she got the PhD she was so burned out mentally and emotionally that she was never the same. It was like she became a different person. She never smiled anymore. Her adult daughter even noticed it and commented on it. I don't think her having an inflated ego over having earned the PhD had anything to do with it. I think the stress of getting the PhD is what caused it.

I had a wife who slowed sex almost immediately after marriage. I turned to porn. By the 10 year mark we had 2 kids and sex was every 3-6 months. By 20 years it was nonexistent. I wish I had never met her. I am divorced now and haven't had a relationship since. When you show a drug addict or alcoholic drugs or alcohol, their brain shows agitation activity. However, when supposedly ‘oversexed’ people are shown sexual material, they actually show lowered anxiety levels in the brain. Addicts have an emotional and physical connection to the object of their addition. However, sex is solely driven by hormones. The testosterone hormone is what drives the desire and those with more hormone driven desire have a higher drive. But that doesn’t preclude an addition.

I currently reject my boyfriend a lot and I'd like to add another perspective as to why this happens. For me, a lot of the reason why is due to past sexual trauma which I am currently seeking therapy for. It's honestly as exhausting and lonely for me as it probably is for my boyfriend. I want to have sex with him, feel that connection and intimacy but my body won't let me. It's so frustrating. There's a book my therapist recommended called Come As You Are which talks about female sexuality. Basically there are accelerators and brakes in everyone, accelerators turn you on, brakes turn you off. People in sexless relationships either have low accelerators or sensitive brakes and the key is to retrain your brain to lower the brake sensitivity and increase the accelerator. I would recommend this book for anyone struggling with this situation.
