I see people commenting about why can't he pay 400 bucks, its nothing. and Why he can not take buses rather than taking lifts! so people! understand that If he takes buses! you won't be able to see that how good these people are! How so many people are willing to help others! If he did not pay 400 bucks it does not mean that he does not have money! he simply showed how good these people are and if someone is stuck somewhere without money so he should not feel hopeless because he might find good people like mountaintrekker did, during his trip. So chill and do not show your concern here about India's image as there are many people here, who are ruining India's image everyday by doing so many bad things.

This can only happen in Russia. This lady standed with him for so long and helped him.In other western countries,forget about standing they wouldnt even reaply to a foreigner. This is why,Russians are so nicely treated in India.Every Indian whenver meets a Russian should pay back tgis kind of nice treatment with our gratitude.

Thanks to the lady too, she could have left him but she was there till the end..something not seen very often especially she had to go alone back and it was already dark. Varun( 'The MT') shows the true spirit of backpacking. That's the real adventure and true meaning of backpacking!! It's not about the money(400 bucks is nothing), it's about the principle . He is showing us the real journey of a backpacker, not a swanky Travel show. A backpacker has to be frugal, he has to be a risk-taker. He takes the roads less traveled, meets new people, gets out of comfort zone...only then you see the real beauty of travelling and learn way more about human nature than any books can teach. And people, don't judge unless you are in the same shoes. He might be low on Russian currency, or might have paid them with gift(not to mention good advertisement for them on channel). Atleast , check the expressions of everyone: Girl was genuinely sorry and concerned about Varun, Varun was worried about her being late, the place owners cared about Varun, offered his own phone for wifi, discount , dinner and gift. Russians are showing so much empathy and sympathy towards you...at least you should have paid them some amount as a gesture. Why so much inclination towards not spending money. You know as a result of your action they might think twice before helping others as humans become tired of helping others without getting anything in return. Look at their homes and the climate there, they aren't that rich, those 200-400 rs could have helped them in someway, can't you think about others sometimes. If you gave them something you should show that too, as your audience needs to see the complete picture.

I had similar incident in Kaunas city (2nd largest city in Lithuania) where the Russian Taxi driver who drove me back to outskirts of Kaunas city from Old town around 1 am in the middle of night to my friends Wlad place a bit away (drive around 45 mints from old city of Kaunas city ) as rolled on we both are singing Jimmy Jimmy Aaaja Aaaja song from Disco Dancer ;-) He can't speak a word of English neither I any Russian, but we had such wonderful 45 minutes of human to human connect it was incredible ...... Russians are special and they are very emotional people like us Indians ;-) So coming back to my story the taxi guy refused to take money in spite of my friend Wlad's repeated insists, coz he is a poor old guy but person with golden heart :-) I don't want hurt his feelings any further, but hugged him tight and tears rolling all over me just such a beautiful feeling. It was same situation with Tallinn (Estonia) Cab driver who played Bhagavad Geetha chants while on transit to my hotel. My past 20 years of living in Northern Europe esp my countless journies in Baltic countries and parts of Russia I encountered innumerable incidents where Russians and their interactions left me teary eyed and chocked with emotions. I feel blessed to have soo many Russian friends in my life :D
How how kind and helpful the Russian peoples are really big thanks to them they helped our brother in challenging situation... you are truly the ambassador of the concept Atithi Devo Bhava which are still not that much in india.. this is a really an inspiration.. You need to have a plan B in an alien country, Also, in India a man in distress can have shelter and need not to pay. My experience was that I had to take night halt due to my car broke down in a remote french village. I paid 100 francs (roughly 400 rupees in those days). Once we returned from rhotang pass, there was landslide, Bus conductor adjusted us in a nearby village. While leaving I slipped 100 note under the pillow so that old lady should not feel insult. This is the gross difference!

AMIN You are 100 % Correct. Not necessary that everyone who hitchhikes may be lucky like Varun Vagish. If one encounters ulti khopdi wale 1 % log then it's Game Over for the hitchhiker. In such situations whom will one call for help ? Varunbhai toh lucky ho gaye kyunki Kismat acchi thi unki jo unhe 99 % acche log mile throughout Russia trip.

Though i have enjoyed many of your videos I would like to point out a thing or two that, in my opinion, are not wise. Seeing your videos one can realize that you are a perennial hitchhiker and too frugal of a person. One should be wary and prepared prior to a journey and that includes foreseeing the economic and other mishaps that can happen while traveling. One can not always be frugal and not use his resources when he is in emergency situations like you were in this video. Human beings are inherently good and social beings who like to help others. One should not always be on the receiving side of this generosity even when he can spare his own money. The tension evident on your face in the video makes me think till what level are we reluctant to spend. We can couchsurf and hitchhike once in a while but should not make it our habit. It's the goodwill and generosity of the person helping a traveler but the traveler needs to realize his responsibilities too. We can not always be dependent on others and expect them to do things for us while we travel. A Go Pro costs Rs 35000 and here we are concerned about 400 rupees ! That being said, i hope you become less frugal in your upcoming trips and keep on making informative videos. Good luck !
