I was a full-time gambler for 10 yrs. & it’s a grind it’s no different then working a real job. in my experience it’s more stressful then working 40 hrs a week.
Anything that requires you risk your own money and where you're not guaranteed a paycheck at the end would be stressful. Video poker for me is just a fun thing to do. I expect to lose and if I win it's just icing. If I were trying to make money at it then it would stop being fun and I would stress too.
Sounds like they made many wonderful memories together. I remember staying at New York New York on the day we're leaving and I had literally $5 left so I went down to play $.25 poker which is 4 hands. My husband laughed. Two hours later he came to find me and I had hit so many jackpots on one machine that we stayed another night and came home with thousands. I love video poker and anytime I win a hand pay I pull out what I spent then split the remaining. 1/2 goes into the bank and the other 1/2 is set aside to play with or buy some non-essential item. Works well for me.
Machines have the worst odds besides the “money wheel”, and keno. (fyi machine keno is much worse than live keno) Slots make the most $ for the house, they’re the backbone of the casino. oh oh shiny lights! Enticing sounds! Game play visuals! SMH. -Machine “experts” are the best LOL. POKER AND SPORTS BETS ONLY. Notice at almost every casino that has a poker room the Sportsbook is right by it…..
My mom has learned how to bankroll all the comps too. She gambles as a stress reliever, where as gambling stresses me out! I'm a twin and we were born on her birthday. Every year for our birthdays she takes us to the steakhouse on the penthouse floor of our local casino and uses her comps to pay for everything. After dinner we'll go down to the casino and she'll put $100 in one of the $5 slots and we'll all take turns hitting the button. If we win, we all split it. If we dont hit anything, she'll give everyone $20 to go play whatever we want. My brother and husband both like the tables. My sister-in-law usually finds a penny slot machine. My step dad just plays whatever my Mom is playing. Meanwhile, I'll wander around nervously for a few minutes before going back to my mom and asking her for her room key so I can go soak in the giant bathtub in her suite while they all gamble. At the end of the night, my anxiety has disappeared and I've still got my $20. I always go home a winner. 🥩🍹🎂🎰💵🛀❤️
She is right gamble for Entertainment and if you go often you get promotions, complimentary rooms, complimentary tickets, dinning vouchers, gifts, etc...Enjoying life!!
Wow, this lady is a bad-ass; she went from English teacher to professional gambler (she says they aren’t professional gamblers, but if you move to Vegas to gamble more, organize your life around what’s happening at the casinos, write multiple books about how to gamble, and earn profit regularly from your skill in gambling, well then, how are you not a professional gambler?) ! Way to follow your bliss! She’s seems super sharp-minded too.
I been a part time gambler for the last 5 years and I make more money gambling than what I do working at my full time job ., but I still see it as an entertainment like she said ,and I’m not planning to quit my job because I like to get excited every time I win a jackpot🎰👌🔥
"What do I do when I want to learn any other subject? I study it." Bingo! We have a winner! It amazes me how many, if not most gamblers fail to learn basic strategy/odds and comp offers. Just doing that will not only increase your odds of winning tremendously, you'll be able garner free rooms, free food and other amenities.
ANd unsurprisingly once you play well enough (read : card count perfectly at a blackjack table), the casino will kick you out pretty fast. So be prepared to have to travel further and further to still be able to go fulltime
A great lady, and a treasure of the AP community. I was lucky enough to be in Vegas and join her and Brad for her birthday party at Tuscany. It was great to meet her in person after following her exploits on her blog and reading her books.
Watched Jean Scott on the travel channel about 20 years ago and my husband and I were enticed to visit Las Vegas because of her. Loved everything about it. Well here we are now living in Las Vegas for the last 10 years. It was the best decision we ever made. Thank you Jean.
So happy for them. Every professional gambler knows that it IS gambling (even if she doesn't call herself a pro). You only have a slight edge at best. Even the best BJ players get the crazy losing streaks. You gotta ride out the losses and ALWAYS stick to the gameplan. Adjust your bankroll accordingly.
@@NeverTalkToCops1 This is a joke!! Nobody wins long term in casinos and if you do these days they will ban you from playing. This is especially true for blackjack.
Even you read a million book, winning is to pick the right slot machine at the right time when the a lot machine ready to give, it is not a rocket science, good luck people at casinos
It truly is all about the comps. Free meals, free play, and free stay. Just maintaining a certain status with a casino gives you more options than say other people who don't. Almost like a special relationship with a business. I dont even remember what it is like paying for a meal or even a room when I go to gamble anymore. That alone makes the experience more enjoyable knowing that you can not only enjoy a "free" weekend , you can bring family and friends too. Everything she says is 100% true. I just wish I had the time and $ to shoot for a million lol. Great informative video.
Free meals, play, and rooms😂😂😂 that is the most misleading thing I've heard in a while. Unless you've never stepped foot in a casino and are just rambling. Staying in that free room can be extremely expensive. 10 minutes at the black jack table you could've paid for that crap room 3 times. Nothing in a casino is "free" I've spent $100 just waiting for my "free" drink I could've bought 3 damn bottles.
You get it for free, but only if you cycle through enough money to earn the points you need for this 'free' stuff. Which means you will pay the casino by way of the edge in the pay tables (averaged over time).
@@themountainwanderer Ok, I understand you don't know me or what I know about casinos. I'm in my 40s and for 20 solid years straight. After getting an engineering degree. I was a grinder playing poker in Oklahoma, then moved to Biloxi where the pokers rooms were not as spread out, with much more action. You understand you said in the same sentence you said "free" this and that, while you "pay" the casinos, makes no sense. After I would rack up my chips. I'd wait while my buddies downstairs playing 21 waiting on the "free" Rum and Coke, $200 dollars later she showed up with their "free" drinks. There is absolutely nothing free in a casino. At least poker doesn't involve the house or the house money. It's the locals and tourists, and I would make decisions of what I want to do with my chips and hand I'm dealt, depending on the personalities at the table and more importantly the betting patterns. One can make educated decisions. Please don't go around saying casinos will hand out a free room and dinner if you put a 20 slot machine. You could ruin a life.
Pretty sure I put Free in Quotes as we all know nothing is ever really free. There are times you win, times you lose. Do you choose where you gamble because they have "loose" slots or good comps? I literally know people who believe slots are more "loose" in certain places and tables are more "generous" in others. You spend more $ you get more comps we all get it. Question is, are you going to gamble and stay at a place that gives you no comps? I don't know anyone that does.
Yep thats all bs im a gambler, And when i say that i mean i spend what people make in one yr just over a weekend, And yes i get comps free tickets to shows limo etc, But just because you have a certain tier doesnt mean anything, You cant expect to go to the casino and not keep up your play and expect to keep the same comps, Nothing in this world is (FREE) it cost money and alot of it, Unless you consider 100 dollars in resort credit something great😂😂 and 50 bucks free play
From 99 to 08 my girl and I were like fixtures at the Silverton. We were Big video poker players, and I can tell you we never paid for anything at the Casino, from rooms, restaurants, shows, gift shop and back then both of us smoked, me about 3 packs a day. I never paid for cigarettes the whole time I was in Vegas. We had over 2.5 million points apiece. So our points paid for everything, and I mean everything. On average I would say we were there 4 nights a week. We would usually get there somewhere between 8 and 10 pm, have dinner, always steak and lobster, we would play until 5 or 6 am, and a lot of Friday’s and Saturday’s until noon or later. We absolutely loved that place.
Us too. Sadly, Silverton has made it abundantly clear over the last few years that VP players are no longer welcome. They have slashed paytables, and doubled and then quadrupled the amount of coin-in necessary to earn a point playing VP.
@@gregoryschmidt1233 That’s a shame! They used to really take care of the regulars, we were always being invited to something, had a lit of giveaways. Always sent out a mailer with free play and stuff. Every time we played we had hand pays so we knew everyone, plus the great cocktail waitress. It was like Family😇
She should have written a chapter on how losing is winning. What I mean is that you can write off your loses at tax time by asking the casino for a win/loss record. The winning part is the comps you get from gambling that money.
wow that's was a great story ! the mistake i always make is i chase my money when i'm losing instead of moving on ! i'm happy when i break even ! definitely going to buy n read her books !
Great interview. I am glad she mentioned the Westward Ho. We used to stay their in our early Vegas days. So cheap but extremely fun. I missed that place.

Boy how times have changed with very few arbitrage opportunities. Now we get negative comps in which the player pays the casino via reduced slot club benefits, short pay tables, resort fees, paid parking and overpriced food and entertainment. Certainly, not my father's Vegas; heck it's not even my Vegas anymore.
@@dwo356 Hell at least you get that once a month. As a Elite player I get nothing. I get a 1 time celebration dinner $100 once a year.😂😂 I usually play mostly at Harrah's Cherokee. They don't give you shit like other casinos. Some give gifts. Multiplier offers throughout the year. It's sad. We spend all this money to not really get much back. But you 7 stars get alot. Cruises etc
Lucky.. Lucky her.. she is one rare gem. amongst thousands..that made a fortune, all others went out of the Casino, with empty wallets and emptied bank accounts.
Love your story, good luck with what you love doing and yes, I always enjoy the comps, meeting actors with private shows, free trips and the casino treats you like a king if you play
Loved this video. She is wise. I also enjoy the comps .. always makes it worthwhile win or lose. The key is FUN ..if you are not having fun..re evaluate. 💀
Remember that being a winner at gambling is a "long slow torturous path." It's not easy. You can't be a consistent winner from just a few days of learning/experience. It takes many years!
@@michaelblankenau3129 Unless you do fulltime PERFECT card counting. But at this point it doesn't even pay more than your usual fulltime job, with the added stress of bankroll management. The only way for it to pay more much more than your average job is to start with a huge sum anyway. Unless you go with VERY high risk of ruin bet spreads. And at this point it's just playing russian roulette with your money anyway.
@@michaelblankenau3129 not true. The reality is that greed is what does most people in. People come in trying to always double. If you can make 10% and walk away you can be profitable. You're almost always going to be ahead at the start
@@TechLidBull How do you figure that ? You’re giving up an edge from the very first bet so it’s ridiculous to say that you’ll almost always be ahead at the start .
I just loaded up on these stocks, but my questions is how can I make short term profit, I read articles of investors that made over $500K after a couple trades and I'd appreciate clue on how to make better profit
Yes. They can be changed at any time. However, casinos don't constantly change them back and forth. They would just make the change one time and probably stay with that change. Keep in mind that you can always look at the pay table before playing to see if it has been changed. You can never do that with a slot machine.
Great and interesting interview. It shocks me when I see people at my local casino not using players cards. She takes her comps seriously. I’d play video poker but I find it very tedious and not fun. Maybe I’ll put some free play in one next time.
It’s worth a shot, I went to mainly video poker from slots and the standard “boring” jacks or better and bonus poker aren’t the only well-paying games out there, you’d be surprised what is out there if you find the right machine and play the right strategy! Best of luck!
@@wildestcowboy2668 Five Star video poker in Harrah’s Atlantic City(specifically Double Pay TDP and Ultimate X BPD) have approximately a 99% payback percentage when played perfectly. Caesar’s Palace Vegas high limit room also has ultimate x multi-hand BPD around 99% as well(I believe minimum is $30 a pull though). Just have to be vigilant and picky!
I enjoyed this interview, and the pics of the jackpots they hit. Did I hear right, this was done in 2016? How are they doing today? Wouldn't Brad be about 90 years old?
I started doing the same thing when I lost my job due to Covid-19. I haven't worked in 2 years. Getting a players card is a must. I like Mlife best because even though you're platinum Ceasasr's requires a resort fee. God has enabled me to pay my bills from freeplay.

Exactly, she got lucky winning a $500,000 slot tournament and getting dealt a royal flush on a multiple line poker machine. NOTHING that she can tell you to help you win but if she is selling books, good for her. No skill whatsoever in slots and very little strategy in video poker. Only strategy is playing at the casino with highest payout percentage. Or maybe if in Vegas you go casino to casino looking for a video poker machine that has a high progressive jackpot that is due to hit. Some have a progressive jackpot for a royal flush. I only play video poker in Detroit when the progressive is over a certain amount. I still never hit it, lol. I get free rooms and eat free anytime I want but I'm losing plenty enough, so it isn't actually free of course. They don't roll out the red carpet for high rollers because they are losing money to the high rollers. If you can count cards, Blackjack would be the only game you could actually give yourself an advantage on over the casino. Anything else they will take your money in the long run.
I lost so much money gambling in a casino I could barely walk I would lose a pile of cash and have to walk it off then get more money and do it again then one day I won on a table game with a ten up just as I was celebrating high five in the guy next to me the dealer threw her hand away then called the floor and said she didn’t know what happened the floor called the surveillance room and they rendered my hand DEAD..... I BLEW UP ready to flip the table upside down they called the owner who knew me as a frequent player as soon as he entered the casino he called the Police and tried to have me arrested I was embarrassed humiliated and thrown out on the sidewalk I went home called the Gambling Commission told them my story and they ordered the surveillance tapes held so they could see what happened three days later they called and said the owner was very sorry and had a check waiting for me I never seen what was on the tapes but I cashed the check and never looked back I never gambled much after that THRILL WAS GONE I figured if I couldn’t win when I won then why play at all
I am glad you got what was rightly yours Daniel after your success and win. Some of these souless people running these establishments will do anything not to pay you
Thank you for the interview. I'm a former casino accounting systems network installer, and it felt great to hear a woman talking about the industry. Different race, gender, socioeconomic demographic - listening helps. It really makes it funner to watch and be more inclusive. Thank you.
I'm not a gambler I sometimes I go to Vegas or I'll go to Louisiana if you I'll save money I'm not going to blow no more $900 I have a sister she's deceased now God rest her soul she was an addict she would spend her mortgage her water gas electricity and one of my sisters and I we finally got tired of picking up her tab but it did not stop her we quit helping her all together and it didn't matter it didn't matter heartbreaking.
I think grinders (gamble, but take win and leave) still do ok. Maybe they don't win huge jackpots??? But they have fun living as a gambler. But than you also hit those first spin jackpots/First Hand Cards too sometimes.
Fascinating interview. I have a couple of thoughts. First, the examples brought up, the dealt royal on the 100-play as well as the photos shown, are all very very rare and therefore extremely lucky hits. The average VP gambler will never see those. Second, for every successful gambler like this there are scores of failed gamblers with losses sometimes shockingly high. These disciplined (and lucky) people are rare. Yes, long term success is very hard to achieve, and it involves total commitment, taking advantage of any club benefits you can get as she pointed out (and casinos are constantly devaluing VP play) and scouting for good pay tables that are increasingly hard to find. Another thing you have to account for are the hours spent in the casino. There is a cost here as well. Could you have done something more worthwhile with all that time? I think in many cases the answer is pretty easy.
Yeah man, there are far more scores of people with a ton of losses playing then the rare instance of a winner here and there. I can attest to this. Wish I never picked up the habit, it can be quite costly with nothing to show for.
I know a guy that banged a Indian casino for 875k in 4 days, and he started with 900 in free play 😂. The dummy proceeds to give up 500k in the next month, so he goes to Vegas with 200k runs it up to 1.5m and then gave it all back. Let me win 900k I’ll invest most of it, but I really don’t like to gamble.
You THINK you'll do that, until you think about how much more you could make. Greed and other emotions take over. It's like saying you'll only eat one potato chip or french fry and toss the rest, after not eating all day.
@@mvp6780 yea bro I think not. I walked in to the same casino prior to Covid shut downs, and hit for 60k on a slot machine with free play. I proceeded to get the cash took it to the bank and headed back to work. Let me win 500-1m and it’s way different.
Awesome story! I nodded yes a lot! Very down to Earth. Very good interview 👍 ohhhh! I did have a question about living, gambling in Vegas as a resident...Strip, off strip, Fremont???? Was there a difference?? I assume you stuck with one corporation???
@Pierre DeLaFrance - many gamblers do not enjoy swimming in shark infested waters. Do you go through life looking for the "easier" path, as opposed to a harder path ?!?
She never mentioned that the slot machines nowadays are server-based... that means in the computer room they can adjust the payout from high to low or low to high... similarity to the blackjacks shoe games... they'll leave the losing shoe game in for a longer duration... conversely the winning shoes they'll change out more frequently!
Not in Las Vegas!!! Classic 3 machines can not be changed once set by the specks at the manufacturer. Classic 2 machines, yes, as they are Bingo machines controlled by a server. Most Indian casinos are Classic 2, and some states have Class 2 machines
This is great! I'm just in my 50s and getting interested in roulette and baccarat systems for a little bill/rent contributions, this lady is an inspiration that the bank sometimes loses :)
@@TheJackpotGents But there are systems that do pay if you get the right moment, it is just working out when that is! :) I did see a video where you said that baccarat was the fairest game in the casino which is why I started studying the game which led me onto roulette and system betting for both. Idc what anyone says.. Its absolutely impossible to 100 percent of the time to make money.. You will ALWAYS lose more than you win.. Thats just gambling. If they made casinos for people to make more than they lose there wouldn't be casinos.. Now it is possible to have a win streak, and to eventually win jackpots.. But they are rare. Gambling is something i know alot about and i have both won and lost alot of money. And its not an opinion what im saying is this statement is a fact..
Very interesting lady but she admits things have changed so much. You can't win quite like you did in the old days. Best thing is breaking even and enjoying a few comps. Now that she's knowledgeable she has written books and makes more money doing that.
I think this lovely woman is awesome, don't get me wrong. But $1M in 25yrs is not that much. That's $40k/yr. It's definitely impressive to earn it by gaining casinos however.
