He is the chosen one. I cannot understand there are many people who try to disgrace his historic accomplishments. MLB is literally being saved by this man.
Sources? To be honest I never really see anyone try to disgrace his accomplishments, pretty much everyone unanimously agrees he is the best player in the world. Where are these "many people". I do see people say that Judge should win the MVP but that is not hate and is subjective. Other than Stephen A Smith I haven't seen any real hate on Shohei or his accomplishments, but perhaps I am wrong. Please post references so I can see for myself.
@@Brett733 I see racist/xenophobic comments about Shohei on a regular basis on baseball social media posts. There are a lot of bigots in America that will not accept him and will continuously diminish his accomplishments.
@@Brett733 it has a lot to do with Judge and those who think he should be MVP. They are not using sound logic. They say Ohtani doesn’t help the Angeles win but what they can’t admit is that Judge couldn’t help the Angels win. When presented with the scenario that the Yankees would have a better shot at winning the WS with Ohtani vs Judge they don’t even argue against it. Ohtani would be the Yankees best pitcher. He would maybe even be their best hitter minus Judge? Baseball is still a team game. Personally if Shohei was w hite or b lack then they would be claiming it’s a run away. Historic 2 way player. There are other who have recently won the triple crown etc. It’s unfortunate for Judge not the other way around. If Shoehi wasn’t top 5 on each side it would be different. If he’s top 5 in both pitching and batting it’s a no brainer. It’s really a slap in the face to Ohtani.
@@JurrasicPork thanks. 👍 And another thing. Notice how even MLB is shying away from the HR records by Bonds, McGuire and Sosa? They allowed that PED era. Now they want to take it away and claim Judge is the “new” legit HR record holder at 61-62. 😂🤣. They say stuff like Judge going for the HR record in a season. 😂🤣 Even for Pujols they would say he’s ranked whatever ranking all time and don’t even say “MLB” and thus never want to mention Sadaharu Oh. The real all time HR king. News reporters should say MLB. They also want to take away accomplishments by Ichiro Suzuki. He really is the all time hit king. Not Pete Rose. Rose can claim MLB. These same reporters always discount king how Japan and South Korea were battling it out for the World Baseball Classic. I think international baseball has made a statement and the US should better acknowledge the talent that is out there. It’s true many US athletes prefer football and basketball over baseball but that’s not the international players fault. All the international players can do is do their best. I don’t favor one over the other. I’m objective. If Judge was the 2 way player he would get my vote with being top 5 both sides. The numbers are just ridiculous.
I come from a country where no one plays baseball but I still follow Angels' highlights and watch Shohei Ohtani clips on RU-vid and follow Angels' games on the Internet.
I stopped watching baseball over 9 years ago. I was a little girl who loved Baseball and played Softball regularly on local little league teams. When I was 11 I injured my leg and it is now permanent. I was so sad to have to give up the one thing I loved the most. After that it soon became too painful to watch baseball or softball as it always reminded me of what couldve been. But because of Shohei, 2 years ago I started watching again. It is because of Shohei that I found the passion and enthusiasm i once had for baseball. Hes one in a million.
Once in a century player with freakish talent, some ‘boyish’ handsomeness and great persona, Ohtani is in another stratosphere compared many other baseball players in this earth. In terms of Japanese baseball players in the MLB history, Nomo/Ichiro/Matsui are like Magic and Kareem, and I think you could argue Ohtani is like Jordan. Ohtani is generating interest from many people in the US and across the globe, whether they like baseball or not. That alone is ‘saving baseball’ already, and I’m always on look for what he did on the mound and in the batters box.
Even in Japan, there are no professional two-way players like Ohtani He was allowed to do so because he was too good on both He is the only one on the planet
Before Shohei, I wouldn't consider giving baseball 2 seconds of my time. Because of Shohei, I look forward to watching the Angels everyday after work. During off season, I would feel a little depressed because there's no Angels baseball to watch, mostly, I miss watching Shohei.
Shohei deserves the biggest single season contract in a sport history, more than $100 million per year for playing like an ace of a team, while saving the league. If he got 5 year 800 million dollar deal, I wouldn't be shocked.
@@eyebeebak That's an artificial measure concocted by combining two statistics. Also, Aaron Judge is clearly the MVP for this season. Not that I put much stock in it, but Judge exceeds Ohtani by about a point in WAR.
@@derkardinal9781 judge is not a pitcher. we talking about two way player. i guarantee judge wont hit 60 hr next year. even if he will, he wont win mvp next year but ohtani will. people will realize hitting 60hr is not that special year after year but what ohtani does is more special.
Truth be told. Who comes back to watch basebal after many yearsl because of Ohtani or Judge? I know I am one of those guys who came back because of Ohtani.
I couldn't agree more. I had to move away from my team 20 yrs ago, into a state with no team. I fell out of the game. However, I am an Angels fan now!. 1800 miles away from the team. Shoehei is like Hailey's Comet. A once in a generation athlete.
To all the Judge Trolls that say Judge has made history whereas Ohtani has not. Your as blind as a bat!! Shohei Ohtani 2022 season stats: As a Hitter: .273 BA, 34 HR, 95 RBI; As a Pitcher: 15-9, 2.33 ERA, 219 K. ➕ 19 game hitting streak, gold glove plays, hits singles, doubles, triples, HR's and multiple HR's in one night, steals bases. Can pitch 5 or more innings and the very next day hit home runs, triples, doubles, singles. Wins the game with multiple runs off his bat and his pitching. And the list goes on and on...... So my question is to the Judge trolls: Can Judge do what Ohtani doing? Or does he just hit home runs. Because though Judge has made history in just hitting home runs. Shohei Ohtani has made history in multiple avenues of the game that no one has matched in the MLB this 2022 season!! In fact they are saying that his 2022 season was better then his 2021 season to which he won the MVP award. Hence no matter what is said or done about who wins the MVP award. It is evident by all the evidence that the MVP award should go to Shohei Ohtani again this year!
There’s an anime like that called Major where the protagonist was a two way player in high school but even that character had to forego hitting and focus only on pitching in the major league and he could only pitch fastball to 100-101mph whereas ohtani’s record is 102 and he’s hitting and pitching at the same time. Ohtani transcends fictional characters which shows how much of a beast he is
@@richmondxavieriringan7491 Yes, Shigeno Goro was a two-way player in the anime Major, but he didn't abandon his hitting skills, he just started focusing on throwing, because he had to throw with his weakest hand
As the Japanese media puts it: "Shohei Ohtani is playing high school baseball in the major league arena." I fervently hope he will continually inspire generations of kids to come in taking up the sport.
@@shunya0615 No. You are missing the point, waaaay wide of the mark. If he were a high school caliber hitter, how is it other MLB pitchers are giving up HRS, triples and doubles to him? Are you saying they are like highs chool pitchers too? The whole MLB is at the same level as high school? Is that your point?
@@bogeyman10us11 I think libra put "He's basically like a high school hitter" in quotes, because when Ohtani first entered the league, this was a phrase someone once used to criticize him. He quickly proved them wrong, finding success shortly afterwards. libra probably isn't saying that Ohtani is not a good hitter. Regarding the Japanese media perspective that Temi Abad said, I think the idea is that in high school, there's a passion and joy for the game, not just the "best statistical play". Players still steal bases and both pitch and hit, etc. but haven't been doing so once they leave high school and start entering the Pros. Ohtani has been bringing this kind of "youthful" mentality into the MLB, and it's amazing to see!
@@funnytoss "libra probably isn't saying......" suggets that YOU are guessing what he means. Who knows what the heck he means, if anything at all. Why don't we just forget him? He isn't worth the time or the trouble.
This is the best time to to follow multiple teams particularly with next years schedule features more opponent variety. Access is so good and improving. Condensed games, highlights, whole completed games broadcasts, very inexpensive live radio feeds, team news pages, wealth of stats, instagram and RU-vidrs or course.
He is special. He is talented. But what I like about him the most is that he's always modest, humble, gentle. And yet he can be very uh.... can't find the right word, but he sometimes looks like a little kid who just loves baseball and so happy. And of course, we cannot forget about Ippei's presence, too!
Have been an avid basketball fan since childhood. Ohtani made me come to one of my first MLB games as an adult and I am now a fan of the league and sport! Asian persuasion!
The steroid era brought people back but turned off folks once it was known that they were all juiced. Many folks such as myself were turned away because of that debacle but are slowly coming back due to this guy. He’s doing something at an elite level that most fans of the game deemed impossible in the modern era. It’s simply insane what he’s doing and it is fun watching him reach these heights
Same here. Actually, the Sosa-McGwire race turned me off completely. I suspected something was amiss. They looked like body builders, not baseball players.
He could possibly be the single most amazing player in the history of the game. Key now is to sustain this level of performance for 7-10 more years and win a World Series.
I am an Eastern European from a country where it's amazing if someone actually knows what a pitcher and a hitter does, let alone be able to follow the game. Shohei Ohtani made me a fan, watching baseball streams at 2 AM my time.
All my life I have been a Cubs fan but, this year (2022) I have become an Angels fan only because of Shohei Ohtani. In fact I have been following the Angels and Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout this year more than the Cubs game. Since moving out of the South suburbs of Chicago I cannot get the Chicago Cubs games on TV where I reside now. But given the (play by play) feature on the MLB app I been watching more of the Angels games then the Cubs games because I want to see what records Shohei Ohtani breaks next. And the fact that he is an uniquely a all around super nice guy is just an added bonus that makes his personality attractive! Like wish he was my best friend when I was growing up kinda guy! I can only wish Shohei Ohtani the BEST in everything he does!! MVP!!!!!
He is clearly saving baseball. It's amazing. I'm watching the Tigers in Detroit and the announcers are telling the upcoming games and one game will have Ohtani pitching. Then all the conversation turns to Ohtani for a good minute before getting back to the game. I've never heard of that in all the years I've watched baseball. They're talking about several retired players who were coming to the park when the Angels rolled into town specifically to see Ohtani play. This guy just dominates the baseball conversation. Yes, clearly he is saving the game. Yes, I also believe there will be more kids wanting to become two-way players professionally. I would be surprised if that didn't happen.
Japanese baseball players always save baseball. Can you guys remember Nomo in the 80s then came Ichiro? Guys, get ready for Sasaki and Murakami in a few years.
@@bogeyman10us11 Murakami, the 22-year old Slugger that has recently hit his 56th home run of the season, breaking Sadaharu Oh's record for the most home runs by a Japanese born player.
I have to say this as an Olympics devoted watcher, last summer my homepage was so full of this "shohei ohtani hits HR ##", but then I saw he hit a different number and it kept coming up (????). Idk who this dude was and why his HR highlights got recommended on my page, until I clicked and saw it. It made sense. The funny thing was: this dude pitched too, i didn't know much about baseball then but i knew no players played in 2 positions. So here I am, watching and admiring the dude and he had brought back memories from my childhood's fave movie: a league of their own
Ok totally ridiculous scenario but let's say 10 years from now he made the two way player actually viable. Just imagine how much value a bullpen arm that can play multiple positions in the field as well? Crazy roster flexibility.
What amazes me about this person is that Shohei is still in the process of evolving. Shohei Ohtani is not perfect now. Had he been part of a strong team, he would have been even more phenomenal.
Yes he is. Baseball have ppl watching the sports becuz of this guy. I watched here there now compare to yrs ago. That in itself should qualified as for mvp.
I feel bad for the fans of the other players, but I consider Ohtani my MLB hero and enjoy his success every day. I know you guys have your own team stars to root for, but I recognize them as attractive supporting characters. He resumed his two-way last year and I enjoy him very much because he is an MVP candidate every year when healthy and his competition has steadily become stronger main villains year after year with Vlad and Judge. I am now looking forward to seeing who will be the villain who will stand in front of Ohtani next year.
He's insanely marketable. If it were just skill, there may be limits breaking into markets. Add really good looks, height/build, and personality. And appeal not just to the Japanese but also other Asians. Better for MLB's market than even allowing rampant roid usage.
The last time I watched baseball religiously was when the Phillies won it all in 08. Began to lose interest after the Giants won in 2010. Ohtani is the single reason I'm watching again.
many said Judge is the MVP because he has done great for the Yankees winning team while Ohtani plays for the loseing team. those who said ovelooked Ohtani has don grate for the MLB!
Ohtani is THE story because he does one thing well. He’s NOT a jerk! That said, he’s one misstep from ruining that. The American press would pounce on that one time he does something even remotely disreputable and the social media obsessed populace would run with it. That’s an overwhelming fault America today.
Finessin Sports: Great Video!! I like how you objectively look at all the facts and the Fan reactions to what Shohei Ohtani is doing for baseball. I am a longtime Chicago Cubs fan since the 60's and I will always be one but, now I'm am an Angels fan only because of Shohei Ohtani. Keep those great videos coming!! That's the reason why I Subscribed!!!
There is literally no argument that Judge contributed more to his team than Ohtani. Why would we use team success to measure a sport made up entirely of individual battles? OTHANI is the real MVP.
It'll take some time to see another two-way player if at all. We need to wait for the kids inspired by Ohtani to grow and hope some of them manage to play both ways. Not an easy task.
It's not simply the fact Shohei can hit and pitch at the big league level.......but he can do both on an elite level. He has the potential to win the Hank Aaron award and Cy Young in the same year. That's insane.
This was the first time I've watched an entire 9 innings since the 1978 World Series. Shohei's strikeout pitch was more dramatic as Bob Welch's game-winning strikeout pitch of Reggie Jackson.
We Are from the country w/c baseball is not existing... But since 2018 when we first saw SHOHEi showtime, We are always exited and waiting for the daily game... His nothing compare... We dont even know the team name ANGELS but because of SHOHEi we always Longging to watch ANGELS game... We reaLLy LOVE❤SHOHEi
was never a fan of baseball growing up cuz of its pace and lack of excitement but it all changed for me in the last two years cuz of this generational…once in a century…talent
The stats shown for Ohtani are not current, though the video was just posted. His record as a pitcher is now 15-8, and other stats are also changed since the date used by the narrator to recite his stat lines.
Babe Ruth was n always will be #1 in baseball stats, baseball history n among baseball legends even though he was playing against Bob’s BBQ grill&steak teams consist of carpenters n cooks. Hitting 80+mph fastball n throwing 70mph curveballs at that time. Ohtani will never come near what Babe did no matter what he does next 10 or 15 yrs. it just not possible. Let’s just enjoy the Ohtani’ talent that can hardly appear once in a human lifetime. Halley’s Comet can be appear once or twice in a human lifetime
I hope Showtime goes full power in free agency with yearly player opt outs. He is essentially playing two years each year he is a two way. At least a contract with a couple very early player opt years.
If Shohei doesn't win MVP, he should go back to Japan as a protest. If he does so, the popularity of baseball in MLB will surely fall and the popularity of baseball in NPB will rise even more. MLB should see the pain and face the reality.
I stopped watching baseball quite a while ago but I recently got back into it because it’s so amazing watching him play. My friend from japan is gonna come down from Washington state to come with me to an angels game cause he wants to see Shohei lol.
Shohei Ohtani is the embodiment of MLB! If he is selected over Aaron Judge for the 2022 AL MLB MVP, that selection will validate the world's population belief that he is the best MLB player--even better than Judge. Ohtani is multi-generational, trans-generational, and the best thing that happened to the world of baseball since Babe Ruth was on the scene a hundred years ago. If Ohtani was a U.S. citizen and spoke fluent American English, he would be a shoo-in over Judge. If Ohtani and Judge were playing in the Japan baseball league with their respective 2022 record, Ohtani would win hands down. That says something about the system and how it is set up here in the United States. Just ask ESPN personality, Stephen A. Smith about his anti-Ohtani racist comment. He will tell you the truth.
