How Short to Scalp Bermuda and Zoysia Grass 

Today after work I just laid down a 50# bag of Sunniland 26-0-11. I usually use their 7-0-20 Stress Blend. I also blanket sprayed Humic 12, RGS, Microgreene 0-0-2, and Air 8. I just read our soil temperature at 70 degrees with the meat thermometer 🌡️. Our Bahia and St Augustine is greening up great 😃👍🙏. I live in Sunny ☀️ Central Florida. Great video. God bless 🙏 Jeff

Always on top of your yard and it's needs! Looking good after the scalp. I'm actually pushing my scalp up to next weekend instead of the 19th. I'm having to get a bunch of lime and my triple 10 watered in first. Don't want to suck it up before it's all in the soil. Already preemrged I just hope it wasn't too late. We are 100 miles south of you and tend to run just a bit warmer/ sooner than you. But I follow ground temps closely along with your channel. Waiting for the big reveal!!

I learned to do lawn in the late 70’s with grandpa’s king o lawn. Yea prob shouldn’t have been using it at my age but i sure learned alot working real tools as a kid. Front reel mowing to me is like therapy. Yet now here in so California . With no water left its hard to make st augustine grow wo a 500$ waterbill as well as huge fines for wasting water. 😔. I agree w are in drought. I just miss my golf course scalped flat st augustine

Funny I see this. I too started to see a green haze. So I scalped down to a 1/2 inch. But it was proving to be a real pain in the bottom. My reel mower was locking up every few feet. I don't have a leveled lawn yet, and it was proving to be a not fun time. I have 22,000 square feet and ended up scalping with the garden tractor down as low as it would go and then the reel mower and then the rotorary to suck up the clippings. Which would fill the back in one out and back pass. Next up is the PGF balance.

DOC what mix ratio do you use for Dimension in the Anderson's hose end sprayer? I have 20,000 ft² of bermud a and bought dimension for the split application to use with the hose and sprayer

A good and satisfying video to watch but can you explain a walking pattern when you apply the fertilizer for cul de sac homes ?

i just had bermuda sod put down in may, few little weeds here and there that I just pulled up, after it went dormant all was find, but since the middle December weeds are trying to take over, can they take hold that fast?

I had a fire in my backyard in January from a coal kicked out from my smoker. It's around a quarter of the backyard. I covered it with straw. I raked it off about two weeks ago. I'm concerned about the dormant bermuda and what could have happened to it. It's still too early to tell if it will come up. I already put three rounds of Humichar and did the balanced on my entire yard recently. Any thoughts.

Am I remembering incorrectly or in past years. You always said you would hire the scalp out because it is just to much of a mess ??

Doc I have very high phosphorus (sandy soil), can I still use the PGF balanced for the jump start? Or use another product? Or skip and go right to green shocker? For cool season.

I use a few large garbage cans with wheels.

What was your actual height of cut on this post-scalp? I too live in GA, got a McLane mower, and was looking to knock this out and apply some PGF balance. Doc I’m planning to add 2 inches of gen contractor dirt to my Bermuda lawn. Should I apply pre-emergent, pfg balance, Humic char..etc before or after? I just hit it today with Q4, and Negate will arrive later on today. San Antonio, TX

At about 5:20 the EGO Blower being used appears to have all black battery, not green/black. Wondering if it is one of those non EGO branded batteries you can find on Amazon? I have been wanting to try one but wasn’t sure on the quality or compatibility. If it is a non-EGO battery has it been good for you?

Doc, will you be applying a liquid pre emergent? Appreciate all the advice. In a year of following you my bermuda lawn is totally transformed. I will be scalping tomorrow in south Louisiana and was debating Humichar and liquid pre emergent, I put my Barricade down about 2 weeks ago.

What's the difference between using the green shocker or the super juice?

Hi Doc, I still have a good supply of Super Juice stored in a 5-gallon container with a secured lid from last summer. I normally mix in a small amount of liquid iron. Is it ok to use at this time this in place of Green Shocker? Hate to see it go to waste. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with all of us and I look forward to your big announcement!

Hey Doc, my tif419 is still dormant as we had a recent freeze here in North Texas. If I get close I can start to see green coming through. When you say to scalp down to dirt, that would essentially get rid of all the dead stolons and make the yard really thin right? What kind of timeframe am I looking at for it to recover and thicken up here early in the season?

Given how the scalping process went, do you feel like it was still worth it to do that pre-scalp step?

Doc, i love the videos and have followed your guides for the last two years and intend to for this year also. But…the prices on the products you use have skyrocketed. $90 for Docs Super Juice on Amazon! Thankfully I have some from last year but was just trying to fill the reserves if you will. Just thoughts I’d pass that along.

Doc, would burning your lawn with fire be as good as an early season scalping?

Put a big tarp down and empty onto that then just drag it, with help if needed, to wherever you dump it.

We weren’t able to put down pre emerant till this Monday because the snow hadn’t melted but just got it down I’m in oklahoma I have no clue what weather climate we r we get everything all the time. Had no clue what you ment by the 50° ground temp so we just put it down anyway. We could t find ur product so we put down a 3in 1. It was pre emergent fertilizer and 3 month weed killer? No clue just bought it and threw it down with drop spreader. We have stickers so bad I can’t stand it. Stickers everywhere!! The yard our clothes bath towels the carpet furniture the dogs. I’m just sick of it. The shocker stuff when should I put it down in central oklahoma?

Hey Doc, I am in southeast Florida. My soil tests consistently show high P and low K. The K seems to leech right out of the sandy soil. Do you know of any fertilizers that run 8-0-16 or similar, with a really small particle size? Most of the ones I buy are more for gardens and don’t give me good distribution in the lawn. Thanks

So, my mower can only go down to 1 inch and I plan on cutting my Bermuda at 1.5 inches for the rest of the season. Is that ok since its not half my final cut height? Should I bump my cut height up to 2 inches?

Have you thought about scarifying your lawn also?

So I sodded my backyard with zoysia at the beginning of last spring. I had been planning on dethatching it but I’m wondering if I just need to scalp it instead or do I need to do both? And if so in what order?
