Been using these for 15 yrs. I also get different colors for buckets. Blue from Lowes for plumbing(blue=water), Red/Orange from HD for electrical(red=danger) Green from Menards for carpentry, (Green=wood). This way I can see them from a distance. I have several blue ones too some without the pouch for extra/oversize plumbing stuff.

You can't just leave us hanging with the power tools idea and not tell us. I'm renovating a lake cabin and 4 cabinets this summer, will be getting some professional help as it is just too much but your channel is awesome. I was just shopping around for how to carry all my power tools. Great idea for the hand tools. Thanks for everything!

I have been doing this for years. Some of my friends and people I meet on a job think I am crazy. But grabbing a plumbing bucket or an electric pail is way easier than trying to sort your tools before you hit the road. I probably have fifteen categories. Drywall is unto itself. Hole saws. Drill box. Wire wheels. Angle grinder. Saws all. Jig saw. Etc. Two of everything is an understatement more like four.

Jeff, I love your simple no none sense approach to renovation projects. I am learning and growing a lot from your videos. The bucket organization is so simple, easy and budget friendly. It beats spending hundreds of dollars on Milwaukee Packout boxes and similar storage devices. I even got an additional bucket with a seat on top for when I need to take a quick break. I would like to see how you handle your power tools as well. Keep bringing great content.

I just bought three $20 tool bags for electrical, plumbing, and carpentry tools. I chose bags over buckets because I often bring tools to family's houses via my truck's back seat if weather is wet or via the trunk of my wife's car, and buckets are bulkier and tippier. It feels so much better to be organized--i used WalMart bags and cardboard boxes before.

Went to replace some old outlets and light switches yesterday and couldn't find a single pair of needlenose pliers or my wire strippers because my tools are all over the place. I decided that rnough was enough, and instead of doing what I had planned to do, I instead spent my day finding all my tools from the bins and boxes that they had been kept. Then, I decided to put together 'kits' for different types of work i.e. electrical, carpentry, and I figured that I'd look to others to see how they go about organizing their tools. Stumbled onto this video which was EXACTLY what I needed. Pails are a genius idea.

I'm a bit fancy on the Packout system - what I REALLY like are the 15" organizer totes they offer. I'm a plumber, so I have one for general hand tools, and I have one for my soldering kit. It fits an MC tank, paste, spark lighters, pliers, flame pad, and an old peanut butter container where I keep odd 1/2" fittings. Same idea, saves a TON of time, makes organizing simple. The only difference is that I don't have as much space - so I have to pay up for the engineering! Honestly though, it's an amazing system, I love it, and going from one small job to the next (sometimes I'll go to five sites in a day), it REALLY simplifies the process of meeting the customers' needs

I made a similar switch years ago when I got tired of spending more time finding tools than working on the project. Except I use plastic tool boxes, and they are all clearly marked. One for plumbing that has those tools. I have a torch box that has the brushes, flux, solder, ect for sweating pipe fittings. One for electrical. One for all my air fittings, tips, and those cheap coil hoses that come in handy on occasion. Then I just have multiple empty buckets in the workshop that I throw the bigger tools in when I need to tackle a job. Like my 18" pipe wrenches, my 2' level, pry bars, etc. Then I throw in whatever selection of fasteners I might need and take that bucket, and the associated tool box to wherever I may need to work. When I am done, throw everything back in the bucket and put it back where it goes when I get to the workshop. I also have duplicates of a lot of things spread across the various toolboxes. Razor knives, tape measures, side cutters, screw drivers, adjustable wrenches, etc. The minimal cost of having duplicates pays for itself in the time I save looking for things or when I need to work in multiple locations simultaniously. Like right now, I am rewiring my 2nd floor by going through the attic. So I need tools in the attic, and on the 2nd floor. Having multiple tools is so much easier than climbing up and down those attic stairs. Throw in the fact that I keep needing to pull home runs down to the basement, and I need tools on three different levels of my house at that same time. I know, a tool pouch would cut down on some of that, but it isn't really practical to wear fitting through the tiny hatch to the attic, or when squeezing in to access the outside wall in the attic.
@derpherpp
@derpherpp 3 года назад
I’ve tried tools boxes but it’s not clear and I never know what’s in them until I go through few of them. This is a good system since u can see all the stuff right in front of u and there’s no lid. The only down side I see is it’s not stackable and it’s have to have it’s down location and I can’t stack other stuff on top of it
@billsedutto8824

Sounds like you don’t use a tool belt? I don’t usually buy I’ve been told that will help with having to run back and forth to get the tool you left in the other room. I think I will try these buckets and also get a better fitting tool belt that I will actually use more often. There are a still defiantly some tools that you need duplicates of. Who really has only one screwdriver?
@tay13666
@tay13666 3 года назад
@@billsedutto8824 I use a belt when doing things up on a ladder, or on a roof, but they just get in the way when crawling around inside an attic, or even getting through the tiny attic hatch that I have in my house. Also not practical in a crawl space either.

THIS WORKS! I used two old sets of office drawer units; Every drawer has a specific set of tools. I stacked them and put a 'lazy susan' bearing plate on top. This holds 4 small parts cabinets in a square; So I can spin things around and always find the small parts, screws, nuts, bolts, connectors electronic parts etc. I need. The 'other stuff' I store in folding shopping crates 'one topic' in a crate. When preparing for a project I know where to find things. If need be, I make a 'projectbag'. I'll have all I need at hand. Only the small parts cabinets cost me some money. Total cost: less than $100.

I've done this very same system except with rubber totes. One bin for each trade (drywall,electrical, plumbing and general carpentry tools) And 99 percent of the time you'll need to grab two bins to go do a job and when you're done it's easy to stack in the garage. I'm replacing my roof and rebuilding the side entrance deck. And if I have time I'll install a new window and board/batten siding.

Awesome video Jeff… I have a few of those bucket organizers and they work great. Lots of pockets like you mentioned to store all kinds of tools. I do have one for electrical, but now I have to get one for plumbing… Currently my plumbing tools are in one of those cloth type tote bags but some of the tools are buried and I have to move stuff around to see what’s below. The bucket ideal is perfect because I’ll be able to see most if not all of my tools at a glance. Re my current project: I’m converting my old kitchen into a bedroom since I built a 25’x 28’ great room with a kitchen / living room with a two-car garage below and I’m almost done with that… My next project is redoing or replacing a wooden front porch. When I constructed it, I used womanized construction wood? Now it’s getting old and time to redo it. I want to use structural grade plastic 2x10’s and 2x8 for the framing and the same for the flooring. My question is - is recycled construction grade plastic a good option to use since I don’t want to have to redo this porch again or is there a stronger grade rot resistant wood like hickory, I should be using…? Thanks for any thoughts and reply… PS Just absolutely love your videos… You certainly have a huge amount of experience and I appreciate the heck out of the videos. Save me a ton of work with those great tips+… THANK YOU….!!! Ray

I was thinking about this recently since I'm my own handyman for my rentals. I was planning on the bucket organizing since many times I also just need the pail for something too.

@@HomeRenoVisionDIY And you can stock a smaller pail and/or bowls in the bottom for those toilet jobs.

i love that you use a cheap kuny pouch and not some $400 cadillac!!! i have old school lockers and filing cabinets in my sheds so everything has a place even though i'm not always that great at breaking down my gear at the end of a job
