I agree with Tyler, maybe not failure but the expectation with McDavid and Drai was a cup, not close to a cup and excuses, he had fewer holes to plug and more time than most GMs and still couldn't do it while others did

Besides, Jack Campbell and some other horrendous contracts. I think he did great. We got to the Cup Final and a lot of it is because of his scouting in 2024. In my opinion he wasn't a failure.

Ken Holland is a Money Ball example of the "Halo" effect. In short, his experience and gratificaction was under the Little Caesars empire in Detroit. He was a goalie in the NHL and his first professional mgmt. position was as a Goalie Coach with the Red Wings. Did he make it as a GM for 4 Stanely Cups? Yes, but again, it was a Halo affect for him in Detroit. The hard work was already done by his predecessors. Overall he was a failure for the Oilers and has essentially handcuffed the Oilers from getting a Stanely Cup. Ken, it's time to hang up your goalie skates.

Calling it black and white like that doesnt make much sense. No GM is perfect, he had some absolute home runs (Hyman deal, Ekholm trade, Foegele trade, Knoblauch hire) and some bad misses (Campbell contract, Kassian contract, Nurse contract, some draft misses). Such is life in this business. Edmonton was a break or two from a championship and he deserves due credit, writing the most playoff success this franchise has had from a GM since Glen Sather as a failure is disingenuous.

The only thing that comes to mind is the nurse contract. Nurse is terrible and the Oilers are handcuffed by his uselessness and huge cap hit. That is what I think about when it comes to Holland, they should make him fix that fucked up deal before he leaves. NURSE HAS TO GO!!!!!!! 😡😡😡😡
