It’s because of the process and how much time the brothers spend on making the product. If it was on a factory line, I’d agree with you; $400 for a machine made object is nuts; but it’s man made so that’s why the price is so high. Plus supply and demand also play a huge role in how much the product is sold.

Try to think before writing. Your logic is beyond stupid. 1. A material that already exists, that is easily available, that takes just a few steps to reuse and that is almost entirely removed from the garbage chain by reusing it is ALWAYS better for the environment than throwing it into the garbage and using new material instead. 2. You have absolutely no idea how much energy and ressources you need to end up with a piece of wood to work with.

Okay a thought, what happens with all that material that you shave off to create said bowl? I mean the bowl actual material that's left after you have lathed it is very minimal to the material you are using to create it. According to this video it takes 20 tail/nose sections to create just 1 bowl. That will create ALOT of waste material. The shavings from the lathe, which are maple and the resin glue mixed together, are you recycling that material in any way? Because otherwise you're basically just changing the form of that "trash" that you are "upcycling", from broken skateboards to shavings, which in turn will either be burned or left in landfill. I.e this sounds like greenwashing to me. Sure I like the look and concept alot, I mean the idea is great and it's a nice piece of art. But If you're not taking care of all that waste this produces you should not market is as even close to sustainable.

Listen. These boards get thrown out. These guys pick them up and make furniture and bowls. The stuff they make is cool and doesn't use real lumber. @BarbarishFTW
@BarbarishFTW 2 года назад
@@grqfes I agree with that it's a really nice concept, and I love when people create things out of trash basically. It's great. My point is that they do advertise it as being a way to hinder these boards from ending up in landfill. But if they actually are ending up in landfill anyway, just in a different shape (shavings).. They should not market it as any sort of solution to the landfill problem, but rather as a really cool way to re-use old skateboards into art and furniture. Which as I said, is a really great idea. I work in the fashion industry with design and product dev. and I see so many companies literally dying t-shirts green with some planet earth print and they will call it sustainable without any improvement in the production process - this is why I chose to call this out even though I like it, see it everywhere and it's not great.
