So far this is the best analysis of the Mourinho/Solskjaer difference. There are two factors that I think contributed to the declining results from last year. One was the fitness level of the team. Playing the style described in the video required a level of fitness that United, under Mourinho, did not have. They were bound to be running low on petrol as the season progressed. Additionally one of the major factors for their decline was the liverpool game. Least we forget, United were flying and heavily relying on the Rashford/Martial/Lingard front three. In the liverpool game, United lost Martial and Lingard to injuries. Additionally they lost Herrera in the same game and Rashford also got hurt but had to soldier on even thought under normal circumstances he would have been substituted. Think of it, in one game they lost Martial/Lingard/Herrera and should have lost Rashford. 4 of the players, along with Pogba that got United off to the start under OGS. Winning 10 of 12 and going unbeaten in 14 games is much more than a new manager bounce. OGS was on to something good and had the team believing in itself while producing results on the pitch. The PGS game came after the injuries and they did manage to keep winning after the liverpool game because Lakaku came on and began scoring goals for fun. But that was never going to last. The lost of the 3 players, with Martial and Lingard re injuring themselves again later in the year, was too much to overcome. End results OGS and United won 2 of their last 12 games. Time will tell if Solskjaer is the right fit for United but given how he started with the bunch, there is something there worth working on. Let's see how he fares this year

Trevor G The injuries to and subsequent loss of Lingard, Martial, Matic and Herrera was key to the decline. Stats do tell a story but the missing personnel was the main reason.

Now there is an interesting perspective. But the structure of the club is something Ole does not have control of. The board and lack of investment in the football vision, where is the DOF again? The board contributed to Mourinho's downfall but of course he was also a rotten grape. The board is the achilles heel at man utd. Any great manager will find these bastards hard to work with.

Solskjaer needs time. And united fans need to exercise patience. I too was one of those who was foaming at the mouth after the palace and Southampton games. But then I sat back and really thought about it, and this united squad might not be great man for man but they have played better in games this season than any I've seen since fergie left. Ole hasn't made a single bad signing and if you were to ask most united fans to name our top 5 performers so far all 3 of those signings would make it in that list. The team is young and there is bound to be some naivety from some players and even from Ole too, but I see him building something starting with the clearout and putting in players that have the right attitude and drive. We are used to winning I know, but if we just chill and endure at least till next season I am sure this team will click and he will make more suitable signings. I also like that Ole is not afraid to make tactical changes and when he makes one change and it works once, he sticks with it. Case in point, swapping Mctominay for magic permanently, and sticking Daniel James kn the left hand side. I see better days on tbe horizon a lot more than impending doom
@ozieikram2511
@ozieikram2511 5 лет назад
I agree. This is going to be a tough long season though. A case of things getting worse before they get better but I feel we’re going in the right direction overall and by the end of the season youngsters such as Gomes, chong, greenwood etc will be properly imbedded in the team. Next summer, if we buy another 3 decent players like we have this summer and clear out some more of the deadwood, things will look much better. We just have to suck it up for now and have faith in ole.

It happens to every team, after a long and successful era tragedy always come. Sadly for United it's most of the president's and Woodward's fault also tagging along but, as I said, tends to happen; don't be surprised if City flops in the next few years or so. What comes better is the rebound, if we keep believing in Ole's game idea and keep cheering the team good days are sure to return. That is football after all.

Jose was kicked out of the champions league by sevila with an incredible team of blockbuster super stars. Jose is highly fucked and addicted to selfish pride. Ole without buying used cheap teams to dust off PSG. Don't forget that Ole is dying silently, the club sold 1) lukaku didn't replace 2) Ander didn't replace 3) Sanchez didn't replace 4) smalling ...needed a new CB before his loan move 5) Icardi Dybala accepted by Ole but wages rejected by Woodward's footballess ideology 6) Fellaini not replaced 7) Mata aged and out of EPL fitness capabilities now 8) Bruno's 60milla seamed too much to the useless wood, same thing he did to Moyes with kroos and bought the lanky Fellaini and Van gal with Muller and bought the cheaply loaned Falcao....... Ole is clearly working on the foundations of our play, especially in the build-up. This is something we have not had since LVG. We are better at keeping possession (second highest in the league thus far) and controlling the game. But our main problem is creating clear-cut chances and breaking down the parked bus. From what I have noticed, in pre-season especially, United tried to create a lot from through balls in the half-spaces in the box, resulting in cross/shots from difficult angles (but sometimes we score them, i.e Martial vs. Wolves). This is because Ole is still conservative in how he doesn’t like both full-backs to attack at the same time, because he doesn’t trust the midfield to provide defensive cover. As a result, one of the wingers stays wide, rather than both tucking in, which reduces the chances of balls fizzed in between the lines the can allow for quick combinations. In summary, our problem is that we can’t create attacking overloads in the final third because the forward players are too far away from each-other, because we cant commit defensive players forward. The solution? Play two CDMs, turn Pogba into the 10, commit both full-backs wide, and allow the wingers to tuck-in. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk. Ole, if you’re watching this, follow my advice! Make Pogba 10 with two defensive midfielders so that we can commit both full-backs forward to stretch the pitch and open up gaps!

Great on transitions, plenty pace and runners in attack, but don’t have a no 9 Someone that can hold the ball, play with his back to goal as a pivot and link play, and can poach goals, as will struggle against teams in a low block, as pace not needed then

That is a very good analytical video and I think that both is correct - I do believe he is the right choice and needs a lot more time to sort the shambles out that is the current Manchester United. The football we are seeing this season so far is much better football than at any point since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. The results are not as hoped for, but personally I feel we should not over concern ourselves with that right now, because I believe Ole is getting the team right, first by getting rid of all the players with the incorrect attitude to be a Manchester United player. This current situation may not have occurred had David Moyes took heed of Sir Alex's advice to retain the backroom staff, but Mr. Moyes felt the need to end most of their tenures. I believe that was a massive mistake by Mr. Moyes, and subsequent managers have tried to rectify this unsuccessfully. I strongly feel that Mr. Woodward is not competent regarding contracts and negotiating transfers (he has proved this in every transfer window since David Gill retired alongside Sir Alex) and thus, someone should do this other than him, and that should be immediately not if Manchester United appoint a Director of Football or what ever title the club wishes to provide to someone. I believe rather than results we all need to look at what is being done, firstly Ole is moving out all the players with the incorrect attitude, and secondly he is having players signed that are going to improve certain areas of the team, as opposed to signing players to purely show activity in the transfer market i.e. Fellaini, Sanchez, and thirdly although the results are not as the fans may want, at least now the players are generally putting in proper effort during the games as opposed to the pedestrian effort we have seen since Sir Alex retired . Sir Alex Ferguson had a very torrid time during the first number of years as the Manchester United manager, and had the board gone on results and the feelings of the fans, then he might not have lasted three years as Manchester United manager, but the board could see he was sorting the club out in order to bring long term success. I believe Sir Alex and Mike Phelan are guiding Ole on the very same path now, and as such Ole should (in my opinion) be given at least two or three seasons to try sort the current mess out, otherwise it will be an ever continuing cycle of replacing manager after manager. I think that your analysis of both Jose Mourinho and Ole so far are spot on, but maybe one criticism of Ole is he seems afraid to change something during a match sometimes, and this might be because Ole is trying to please everyone and unfortunately you can't please everyone (but I believe Ole will amend this in time anyway). I don't think the current shortcomings since the retirements of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill are per se down to tactical errors/in-competencies etc because a number of different tactical approaches have been tried by the managers since Sir Alex, I believe the down turn was firstly made by Mr. Moyes in severing the tenures of a number of long serving backroom staff members (after all it was the same team under Mr. Moyes barring the addition of Fellaini that had won the league easily the season Sir Alex retired (I think Fellaini is a very poor signing, but even he was not that bad to turn a title winning side into a poor challenging top four side the following season?)). Then the downturn has been compounded by in the main poor recruitment, mainly due to Mr. Woodward being incompetent in this role. Let us hope that the current board of Directors of Manchester United can see the same process occurring as the then board did under the management of Sir Alex Ferguson during the late 1980's otherwise it could be a very long haul to get the club functioning correctly again.

I trust Ole’s project. United fans have to accept that we will go back before we go forwards, just as Fergie had to when he rebuilt this club. People laugh at Ole talking about bringing back the Fergie way, but did Fergie not harp on about bringing back the Sir Matt Busby way? Our failures of late have been a result of short-term strategies. LVG was making steady progress - got sacked. Mourinho was overachieving with a bad squad - got sacked. We need a period of stability, even if we have to suffer for a bit. If you look at City, Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea (pre-Jose), all of them made slow steady progress to get where they are today. United needs the same. Ole is bringing back the United way, the identity and the culture of this football club.

Keep changing manager but the results were still same. But, when Mourinho came he did slightly better by helping MUFC finish 2nd in league & win Europa League. He got sacked eventually for poor run in 17/18 season. What Im trying to tell is we need someone who knows the club's legacy, history, fanbase and most importantly is the style of play. Im sure that the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is great choice. He needs the correct amount of time to rebuild this team. Patience is key to success. OGS know's everything about this football club as he himself was a legend during his playing days. I have faith on him 100% . I really hope that all MUFC fans out there does the same too. Wan Bissaka/Dalot and Williams/Shaw will improve over time. Everyone except Wan Bissaka has already scored this season. Pogba will flourish. Look at some of our games this season. We have won 6-0, 5-0, 4-0 against times which we never did against mourinho. PL record improved with Doubles over City, Chelsea etc. And thats given that we let Lukaku, Herera, Felaini, Young, Valencia, Smalling, Rojo, Darmian, Sanchez etc. go and had Martial, Rashford, Pogba, Shaw injured at different points in the season. We are headed in the right direction and Solksjaer is the man to take us forward.

This is a great video and explanation but I do think that there is more to the drop in form. Match performance and opposition analysis plays a huge part in how teams prepare for their games, this could be subtle tweaks to the shape of the team or even individual player instructions to close down and occupy certain spaces to stop a team playing their preferred and successful style of play. When OGS was first placed in charge, there would have been little to no data on his team playing to his tactics, this means that you could not look at regular passing patterns and trends such as which players occupied specific positions, the fluidity of the team and other aspects of play. After a couple of games you could be starting to look at this information but the small amount of data available would mean that you could not be confident in the results of the analysis. Now that enough games have been played and confident analysis can be completed, teams will start to adapt to nulify the Manchester United attack, this may be done by teams pressing in specific areas to stop Manchester United building attacks or by closing down expected receivers of the ball in passing patterns mentioned earlier. The same applies to how Manchester United will defend, analysis will be undertaken to understand defensive weaknesses and where the team can be exploited. This obviously works both ways as Manchester United will be conducting analysis too. Another example of this is Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa. After a very strong start to the 18/19 season teams eventually had data to analyse and started to find ways to nulify the Leeds United attack and exploit their high pressing style of play on the break leading to failure to hold onto a top two position in the championship in the final stages of the season. This has continued into this season, where Leeds have started strong but have not looked as convincing as they did at the same stage last year as teams understand how they will play.

that's why pogba is so important for united midfield. ever since herrera left and pogba has been sidelined for a long period of time there's no commanding figure at the midfield who can create and orchestrate their game, ole try to use fred and mctominay, they're good but they still a different class compare to the like of de bruyne, kroos, wijnaldum. that's why the arrival of bruno fernandes is a crucial for them and imagine if they got him at the summer transfer window and not mid season transfer window, it would be a whole lot different campaign for them. and the arrival of bruno fernandes completely change the mood of the squad, i don't know if this coincidence or not but right away, players whose always be the scapegoat of united bad form like fred, matic, martial, shaw finally performing well. not to mention the surprising performance from odion ighalo really cure the united thirst of a classic poacher striker for united. united always known for their prolific poacher striker like cole, yorke, ole himself, sheringham, RVN, chicharito, berbatov or lukaku on his early tenure at united, odion ighalo can provide that for united. rashford, martial and greenwood are not a poacher striker, they like to make their own chances instead of waiting the ball to come to them in 6 yards box. i really hope this could be the turn around for ole's united and they can finally comeback to the place where they are belong which is a title contender every season and also champions league football

fitness is also a huge factor. could see that most of the players were facing fatigue and that's why they reverted to being the united under mourinho. this season as far as things have been, there is more emphasis on creating scrappy chances and many dead ball situations. the issue right now is of finishing those chances
@spidermonkey167
@spidermonkey167 5 лет назад
Putting it down to fitness is giving the manager a bailout for lack of a gameplan. I mean what's fitness got to do with playing against a low block? @lokchucklindryfry94
@lokchucklindryfry94 5 лет назад
@@spidermonkey167 what's the use of having many gameplans like mourinho did? If mourinho would have got his signings the picture would have been different. Fitness is crucial to how a player would contribute to a playing style. Our numbers this season are much better but we just don't finish our chances due to a lack of a clinical finisher. Ole has has done well and so did mourinho. Results shouldn't reflect a manager's work they are mostly accidental. It is about not having a proper system of recruitment. We should have replaced lukaku this summer.

Most ''Ole Out'' brigade will maybe not count the winning run and only count stats when United under Ole lost against Arsenal at the Emirates and point that it is relegation form until now... Ole already shipped out 7 dead woods to starts the rebuilding process... which many applauds... still they're some sulking when Ole didn't bought any replacement for Romelu 1st touch Lukaku They were not satisfied because Ole seemed to make promise about buying some players the fans wanted... they are still crying about it now especially Bruno Fernandes... like a cute boy crying on a stair case when his mom didn't bought him a new posh toys... embarrassing if you're a grown up man As the season started Ole and the boys shocked the football world by thumping Frank Lampard's Chelsea 4-0... However, United revolution was halted when Pogba & Rashford missed penalties against Wolves & Palace and lost 5 points then failed to wins against 10 men Southampton... Now these Ole Out brigade are calling for blood and targeted Pogba & Rashford in social media... the level of vile abuse was unbelievable... they were target of racial abuse too which is a disgrace In the match against Wolves, Palace & S'ton potentially United is the most fouled team in the league... average fouled suffered per game 17 time excluding the Chelsea match compare Ole's stats with SAF, Moyes, LVG & Jose against big 5 , which may anger Moyes' fanboys arguing Ole's stats is more worst (Moyes' United only won 2 games against the big boys, drawn 3 lost 6 scoring only 7 goals and conceding 18, in 8 games against the big5 Ole's United won 4 drawn 2 and lost 2 scoring 11 conceding 6) Moyes records = Played 51 Won 27 Drawn 9 Lost 15 52.94% win Ole records = Played 33 Won 17 Drawn 6 Lost 10 51.5% win Moyes took over a championship winning squad but it fell from 1st placed to 7th placed that season 2013/14 and was sacked in April 2014 Ole took over an 8th placed team and only succeeded in getting into 6th placed and qualified into the Europa League Jose's fanboy will argue in 2017/18 they're 2nd best in the league and will keep moan about not fully supported with buying a world class center back... Jose's hater will point United lost to L'pool and was 8th in the league when he got the sacked

@@marvmark5878 thanks for clarifying this, however Moyes only fault was letting SAFs backroom go. This was the only reason I didn't support him when people cried Moyes out. He wasn't motivating the players enough, and had a lot of injuries, adding to the fact that EW refused to buy players for him so we ended up with Fellaini at a sick price when he was cheaper a few months back. Like with Bruno this term, EW also botched up the Herrera signing. And gave us flimsy reasons just as we have heard for Bruno Fernandes. My stance is that we should have sold Pogba, retained Herrera and bought Bruno Fernandes, we could also has bought Ndidi from Leicester City to give Pogba more freedom if Pogba is staying. I am against the sale of Lukaku.(vehemently), loaning out Sanchez is good for the club and player, but we should have bought another striker, especially from the English Championship or Ligue 1. A striker who is hungry for goals but has the composure to slot them in. Rashford is feeling the pressure, so I suggest we rest him a while. I don't mind using Mason Greenwood for our next 3 games. I personally think the only reason they did well in the first 12 games is because players who were underperforming started to play better and then reverted back to their old selves. Unfortunately, I think a lot of United players think they are better than they actually are, while players who are consistently good performers are players who work hard and are more humble (in my opinion players like Daniel James, McTominay, Matic, Mata, and Wan Bissaka) they may not be the most technically gifted players but they provide more consistently good performances and over a long period consistently good is better than occasional flashes of brilliance.

I believe the real problem of Ole is that he is scared of loosing his job! He can’t rotate his team enough and thus the main players are getting tired, the backup strength of the first team players isn’t good enough! He really needs no injuries for a good performance on the pitch. Another noticeable thing is that the younger players are being a lot of chances in the competitions off the main team ones, I remember an Europa league game where the youngsters played a match on Tuesday and thus Chong, Greenwood, Gomes weren’t available. On the right side, AWB has not had any rest, what do you expect? Dalot and Shaw are both injured, else he would have rotated AWB, Dalot, Shaw and Young for the full back roles, Williams is still too raw, can’t be playing Premier League for now. Central midfield is the most problematic area though, where are the options? McT and Fred really! Andreas, Lingard, Mata - not good enough for a consistent run, options? The best solution to this could be to play Lindelof in CDM, with Tuanzebe, Maguire and Rojo to fill the CD role!

Give any manager atleast 2 full seasons + 5 signings incase the academy isn't producing enough talents . Basic thing with Mourinho is , I don't remember when he even gave youngsters a chance . Too scared to play football without counterattacks. Under Ole , I don't knw anything TBH coz sometimes the teams shows really good side while at times they just become like Mirror with no Plan. United's biggest achievement this season was beating city while city was on a downhill after Laporte n Sane's injury . Currently , u need to give some good time to rebalance the team , some players r not even trying hard at times , De Gea was such an amazing keeper n he still is . Maguire is doing very good but just coz his team ain't winning , not many people appreciates him , for me he was better than Djik although Djik almost has premier league in his bag. In short -Transformation ? Well these things doesn't happen overnight or even in one season , to make these transformations ,u need very good time. Problem with big clubs is , if u r manager , u've to win trophies to stay relevant even in ur first season , most people doesn't see the long time results of the club. Very good example is Barcelona Board ,Barca was a team of Family till Lucho managed them n they hired Valverde , who made this club worse over many things , real problem here is the board. Real Madrid's been successful in most occasions coz they've Management n players who can do anything for the team to win.

@@dankid8856 £8m extra for Dan James isn't painful especially with the still sub-£20m fee. can't say much for Bruno, but Maguire was obviously a botched negotiation which was an example of how English-born premiership players go for way too much money.

Lukaku given a break More attacking emphasis Ole encouraged fullbacks to join the attack Wingers could then add numbers to the box Kept two forwards high on defence Mata / Lingard would drop to tip of a diamond Back line was pushed high up Similar to Liverpool on defence - Salah, Mane high, Firmino drops deep

I wonder - does the team falling back into old habits as you indicated in 9:24 somehow indicate below-par man-management by Solksjaer?

OGS might not be the right man for decades or whatever, but we are starting to move in the right direction as far as profile of signings go. And, we have a squad that doesn`t seem to hate life and football like they did (and Spurs do now) under JM. OGS`s successor will take over a young but still experienced side.

Like what I really mean is solskjaer was good at the start when he came in and then he saw light at the end of the tunnel this year closing the gap between 5th place and the top four and is only a few points behind Chelsea that's what it is so far even though morinhio did well too and solskjaer shook it up a little bit around March since morinhio won trophy's that's what is giving time to solskjaer's creativity this year as well as winning trophy's in 2017 and now not to far away from the top four this year which might not continue due to the covid 19
