Very clearly demonstrated, making this subject easy to understand. I was particularly impressed by the way you drew over the rock at the beginning of the clip, showing how sonar reflections arriving at different time at the receiver could be used to draw a three dimensional image of the rock itself. I thank you for an excellent contribution to peoples understanding of this science. Mr Dorian Stonehouse.

How is sonar used accurately if Earth's curvature drops at 8in squared per mile?

Wow, this is impressive. I came here to understand how sonar is used to trace ship wreckage on the seabeds. I had watched several videos prior to this but was totally confused till i landed on this video. Thank you sir for the well elaborated and informative video. RIP Emiliana Sala

Thanks Ziggy - this explanation of sonar is clear and uses great examples/diagrams. Well done and keep up the good work! Hopefully will see more videos from you in the future.

ice expands when it's ice right and takes up more area than liquid water. so if the ice caps melted, wouldn't the water level of the oceans go down?

Since dolphins and whales use a form of sonar, does that mean they can actually visualize the sound waves they receive back?

Do they still use underwater cables anymore since we have satellites now?

Yes - A new trans-Atlantic cable is being laid at a cost of $650 million (USD) to save 6 msec off the time it takes to send a packet between the NY stock exchange and the London stock exchange.

Yes, the distance is much shorter and so it means faster communications. It's amazing, but it's still used.

you seem to be missing the most important part of this - the work of paul langevin's crystal detector -what makes this ALL POSSIBLE

Actually the speed of sound In water is not constant. You have to account for temperature, salinity, and depth.
