This is probably the best video I've seen that easily summarizes the importance of Star Wars in cinema and global culture, I wish it had more views, I always try to remind people of the importance of Star Wars by telling them that many of the sci-fi, fantasy and even superheroe movie franchises they love from the 80s to the present would not have been possible if it weren't for Industrial Light & Magic and Skywalker Sound, Hollywood truly owes George Lucas.

What's even more impressive with Star Wars is what it did with digital effects/CGI or whatever term you want to use in the PT where it makes the OT look quaint in comparison. The whole drive of ILM was to get to a place where Lucas could finally do the movies he wanted with the visual scale he always imagined but simply wasn't possible. He didn't have to tailor his movies to the technology anymore. As we see even thought others have access to those tools they still don't have the bold imagination to use them to the degree he did.

Lol 1:58 there's a montage of effects that were done without CGI, but one short clip of Xwings approaching was CGI, from the special edition.

Blockbusters existed before Star Wars. SW ushered in the era of sci fi/fantasy blockbusters. The 70s wasn't just about small movies, either. Patton, The Poseiden Adventure, and The Towering Inferno weren't exactly "small." Also, 2001:A Space Odyssey had groundbreaking special effects in 1968.

Great video! Very Enjoyable. I have one complaint though. My oppinion on this topic is not shared by the majority, but i stand by it. Star Wars is not sci-fi at all. It is purely fantasy and has always been. Why? Space does not equal Science Fiction. Star Wars is set in space and they travel via spaceships. But the focus of the story never is about their technological advancements. The Death Star is merely an imposing threat and not at all the central focus of the story. "Don't be too proud of this technological terror you've constructed. The ability to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Force." It is essentially a fairy tale. "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." sure sounds a lot like "Once upon a time...". I view it as a fairy tale that happens to be set in a polyplanetary world, but treats these like different social groups would be treated in a fairy tale (you know the princess courageous knight). It is for all the above mentioned points in my oppinion clearly a fantasy franchise. I do understand if you don't share that oppinion, I just felt the need to share it, since I feel like too few people are talking about Star Wars' fantasy aspects. Anyways all this did not take away from the fact, that your video is very well done, and I look forward to watching more of your stuff!

The Godfather reinvented cinema. It was the most popular film before Jaws, before Star Wars.

And 10 commandments was a small film? No spectacle? Wizard of oz 1939 had no visuals? James bond? 2001?. 1970s were a lull in big spectacle films.

Jaws changed cinema in all the ways you describe here, but did it before Star Wars. Cinema would have changed due to Jaws alone, even if SW. ever existed.
