More than two years ago, the first prototype of the Starship program took flight in Boca Chica. In this video we look at the construction and testing of Starhopper, including the challenges SpaceX had to overcome prior to the 150 meter hop.

Have fun, staying on South Padre? Take water, food etc to site. Did not find a restaurant or food place there. Be very careful of parking and traffic, the security force will definitely advise you are in a No Go Zone. Say hi to Nic and Mary too. HAVE A Blast!

My first experience with the Starship program was SN8. I’ve gone back and watched the NSF videos of the early phases, including Starhopper’s testing, but it was fun to see the story retold here in one go. What a two years this has been- I wonder what we’ll be talking about 2 years from now? Thanks to the entire NSF team for all you do!

I smiled the whole way through this video! I am lucky enough to have been able to watch it from the very beginning, despite living in the UK, thanks to NSF! I remember being in awe of such open and public development of something which will one day transform humanity as we know it. I am still in awe every time they complete a new milestone, and I'm so glad they haven't changed how open and public they are with the development. I'm also exceptionally glad and grateful that Mary and the rest of the team at NSF continue to provide such incredible and frequent updates! Thank you!

Initially I had no idea about Space,X until I saw a friend of mine post a picture of Starhopper (in mid air). I was intrigued, and from that day forward, I started to follow the program, Thanks to NSF I have been able to have a window into the life of SpaceX and the making of history. Thank you Jack, Mary, Chris B, Chris G, Das, Matt, Ian, Nic and the many others @ NSF for giving not oinly me, but the entire World a wonderful look at SpaceX and the ever evolving life of Starship. Thanks to all of you, it has rekindled a interest and love for space flight that I had as a kid, when I first saw a picture of Shuttle given to me by my neighbor (who helped design the heatshield tiles) so I could take it to show and tell at school.

I went out in May 2019 and was out there about a week hoping to see a flight of Starhopper, I realized just how hard it was trying to pin down a launch day for that, but I'll always remember seeing it on the horizon the first time as we traveled towards it on highway 4. It really felt like something out of science fiction, just sitting there only a few hundred feet from the beach.

This video brings back the memories. I hadn't discovered NSF yet (or maybe did around this time or soon after). The 20 meter hop was so exciting peering through the dust looking for motion, then yes its off the ground!, then the dust settles and there stands Starhopper. That same excitement repeated at the SH 150 meter test flight, SN5, and SN6 of waiting for the dust to clear... and... yes still on one piece! Great times. Thank you for the trip down Starhopper memory lane. Looking forward to more of these historical recaps.

I think my first real exposure to Starship was with SN6. I had seen some articles online previously that talked about the SN3 failure and showed the MKI prototype. I remember thinking to myself, "that will never work, they're crazy." I also thought it was crazy that they were out there working in the elements and in tents. By the time SN8 happened, I was hooked and became a believer.
